Hi!

A note for everyone who has purchased this from me in the past: yes, you still get all the updates for free! Send me an in-game message with your email and I'll get them to you ASAP.

For the rest of you, here's the deal. Basically, I've made a map of all of Lusternia that I know of and am able to access using Whyte's IMapper program. The map is able to do quite a few things.
  • Speedwalk (incredibly fast, I might add) to a location of your choosing. It also automatically takes advantage of any movement bonuses you may have like sandals or stagform.
  • Find a location's area and its place on the map from a room name.
  • Search the database by room name or by area, and then path right to the room you choose.
  • Display a map of a given area at any point.
  • Keep track of your movement and allow you to find a path out of any area that is mapped so that you never, ever, get lost.
  • WORKS FOR ALL CLIENTS (all clients that you can set connection options for, that is, which sadly discludes Nexus).

"Hey, wait a minute!" you say. "How is that any better than the in-game mapping system?"
  • The in-game pathfinding is terrible; IMap's works like a dream. The in-game speedwalking can't make a path more than a few dozen rooms long, making it fairly useless for anything other than moving around your city and certainly useless for those arduous treks from village to village. IMap, on the other hand, will happily path you from your nexus to the depths of the Undervault if you want it to.
  • The in-game speedwalking is slow; IMap moves like greased lightning. Have you ever noticed how the in-game pathfinding actually moves slower than you move manually? It's moving at only one room per second, whereas IMap will move you at your maximum possible speed, automatically taking advantage of any speed bonuses!
  • The in-game mapping system is incredibly clumsy for viewing maps of other areas and finding particular rooms. In the game, if you don't have the number of the room you want to see memorized (and you probably don't), you have to stumble through trying all sorts of random coordinates, and half the time you can't even get anything to come up at all and the rest of the time it's always the wrong room... with IMap, on the other hand, you can simply search by room name and immediately get the corresponding number, or you can search by area and pick the right room out of a list.
  • The in-game mapper is updated irregularly and is missing some areas. For instance, it's currently missing Talthos and a number of godrealms.

Also: a map of Hallifax that's actually useful?!

The fine print about what's included: the map has almost every publicly accessible area I know of. There are only a few areas I know of that are missing - mainly these are areas that are simply unmappable and would be useless even if they were mapped because of currents and room name issues (Inner Sea, Sea of Despair - though I do have places like the kelpie shoals and the isle of light mapped). I am also currently missing the Domoth Realms (I am not a demigod) and the Glacier Sea/Shattered Earth (I don't know how to do the quest to open these; if you do it, let me know). It also does not have most guildhalls, though it has a couple. There are also two areas (Continuum and Elostian's godrealm) to which the maps do not display properly because mortals cannot gaze upon their twisted geometries without going mad (and by that I mean that they are too complex to be usefully mapped in text); however, pathfinding in these areas still works.

The whole thing is only a measly 20 credits. If you're interested, send me an in-game message or a forum PM. This product comes with support and free updates for as long as I'm playing Lusternia. I will also help you add rooms if needed, show you how to make the speedwalker use your manses to get to places faster, help with configurations, etc.

(By the way, IMapper was originally made by Whyte on Imperian. This map isn't endorsed or supported by him, though he said he was okay with me selling it.)

It really is the best 15 or 20cr you will ever spend. A fast automapper like Shamarah's is one of the best tools you can have.

All of them! Well, except Nexus. This runs through a program called Mudbot that links into any MUD client, but you can't do it with Nexus because you can't configure the connection options.

I've never used Vadi's system personally, but I can't think of any reason that it would!

I believe Vadi's system is used as a proxy just as the mapper is. Is it possible to link the mapper to another proxy?

The website for m&m says it is a Mudlet system and doesn't mention anything about a proxy. (Even if it is a proxy, I can't think of any reason you couldn't theoretically use both; you could set Mudbot up to connect to Vadi's program. Admittedly, though, I've never actually tried this.)

Unless the mudbot was updated to pass on ATCP/GMCP information to the client, yes, it will conflict - m&m makes use of either ATCP or GMCP.

But... Mudlet has a great, 3D mapper of it's own that comes with a free map from Lusternia itself - so it's 'good enough' for most cases.

The maps on it are shoddy and lack quite a bit of information. The 3D mapper is okay, but I'd like to feed it my own information rather than have it get the maps from the website (I haven't tried this or even checked to see how easy/possible it is).

I had modified MudBot to pass on ATCP messages a long time ago, but I don't know if anyone has a copy of that still. I had also modified the mapper module to handle a lot of Lusternia-specific things, including cows/sheep.

The XML map from the web site is very handy, but it has a few quirks, such as not including special exits in any usable way.

So, there are pros and cons to both. Choose whatever works for your own needs (or build your own, of course).

If you're using m&m I endorse the mudlet mapper for Lusternia, but it won't be as good as Sham's mudbot mapper.

The mudlet mapper is still a bit buggy and difficult to read, and lacks some features of the mudbot mapper (being able to easily landmark rooms). If I wasn't on m&m I'd be buying this. smile.gif

Sorry, I thought I edited the answer into my post but apparently then the forums exploded on me. The map currently has 12677 rooms in 189 areas.

Sorry, Vadi, m&m is great, but the Mudlet mapper's not doing it for me.
