Not at all. Ileein is quite obviously female.

Someone recently thought Llesvelt was female.
Llesvelt does not sound female, though, does it?

Not to derail the topic, but I knew a guy who was set on naming his kid Turok Effing Gunst. No one's ever topped that in my book.
I think it will remain un-topped in my book as well.

How about Max Fightmaster?

I forgot to mention that Tully--the name and character--seemed like such a natural part of Lusternia that I thought he was a denizen at first.

Whenever I name a character I just sorta throw letters together til I make something I like. I think though I have a secret love for K names because a vast majority of the characters I've made (IRE and WoW) have been K names. Ksilrinda, Kaliena, Kalaen.
A few names that stood out to me when I started were Yeralih, Asmodea, Vix. Yeralih because her name seemed to fit really well with Glomdoring's theme. I think that stemmed from the fact that it is similar to the DnD creature Yeth. Asmodea was very wintry and fae-y sounding. Vix cuz it went well with Serenwilde, and nature.
I think I like most of the names I see pop up in Lusternia simply because vast majority of the time they're unique or actual names. A nice change from seeing xxDeathkillaxx from WoW. Definitely something that always, always, always irked me in wow was the lack of actual -names-.

Am I the only one who got no Winter vibe from Asmodea on first read whatsoever? I immediately thought "water" and "merian" myself, probably because it instantly brought Elodea to mind.
Unknown2010-12-29 02:32:14
I can see how you'd get water from Asmodea. Y'know Asmodea, Osmosis.
Vadi2010-12-29 03:15:09
I read Wuylinfe as 'Way in life' for quite a while before actually deciding to look at what letters is it composed of.

Re: Names suiting orgs
Personally, I feel as though no matter what name it is that you choose, if you make yourself step up a bit and be noticed, you're bound to find your character associated with that organisation. So in the end, it's a matter of being perceived as a member of a particular org, and not personx as it stands alone. Names in an individual sense should be defined by the person that character turns out to be, rather than immediate word association, imo. I've always come up with my names from scratch for each of my characters in every MUD I've ever played - I try not to even take into consideration ahead of time what sort of person they may turn out to be - let that be decided as they 'develop' rather than spending time typecasting myself into a role based on such an inconsequential facet.
Kaia, Narynth, Picca, etc etc etc

Almost all of the character names in the past have had some form of "regalish" sounding name to them, and I could have spun the RP around for something to fit that bill... But no matter what, I always seem to RP as a fun loving, easy going, goofball. Take Havastus. The name - at least for me - sounds pretty regal. Though if you ever talk to him, he's an over-excited puppy at heart. Go figure!
Oh, and I thought of another cool name: Placeus and Shric. Both two totally awesome people, and both with two totally awesome names!

Haha, that's the first time I've heard that. The spelling confuses some people, but this is by far the most interesting variation. When I created the name I wanted to give it an oriental touch. Can see how that's worked out =p

Hallifaxians seem to love androgynous names.
Ileein, Shamarah, Llesvelt, Aloysha, Casilu, even Wuylinfe... all lend that extra air of mystery
EDIT:
@Jules: Shric is an anagram of his real name, heheh. Still cool though!
EDIT2:
Kaia is a really nice name. I had no idea you were Narynth though The latter one definitely conjures up a somewhat more... dark image heh.

By the way, did no one think of Asmodeus when they saw Asmodea's name? (which I also like)
From Wiki:
QUOTE
Asmodeus is the demon of lust and is therefore responsible for twisting people's sexual desires. It is said that people who fall to Asmodeus' ways will be sentenced to an eternity in the second level of hell.

Hm. Looks like it's already too late for most of you.
I thought of Asmodea the snake when I first saw the name Asmodea. Forget what story it's from though.

Tell me about it.
EDIT: I was gonna pick a certain name for my Hallifax alt but I KNEW everyone would decide it was of the wrong gender, so I had to pick something super obvious.

I think Shamarah's less androgynous Hallifaxian and more of a regal, arrogant merian name, but maybe that's just a holdover in my brain cause you were an Aquamancer for so long.
