Well, only way to get it changed now is to become an Ascendent I wonder how that works (do all seal holders have to come up with a new name in case they become the winner?)
You gotta have an "in" in it. It's not a rule, per se, but it's considered bad form not to.
Furien2011-01-04 03:27:25
The original rule necessitated a Y, but since Fillin didn't want to be Fillyin I guess it really is an 'in' that's required now.
edit: to contribute more, Galaphyrae. I miss her.

I never noticed that! So, what was Fillin's name before he was Fillin? I missed that ascension...

Ceren.

Kear, my first character, is actually my full initials. Lunarisi was... lunar with a twist. Probably would have been better off in Glom. Kayte, another take on my nickname of Kate. Aeral and Zayden came from baby name books. >.>
Ekard has stood out in my mind all these years. Ordos too... uhh, Nydekion's a pretty "cool" name. Lyreth, Eventru, Terentia and Isune all somehow fit their characters...

I think "in" is the only required thingy for the names, Ilyarin does not end with a "yin" like Fillin, as opposed to Vivi and Shu
Unknown2011-01-14 15:52:30
Now I'm curious...is it possible, assuming that you won the Staff of Ascension, to choose not to change your name?

I'm pretty sure they don't make you. It's just one of those encouraged things.
Mirami2011-01-14 16:29:46
With the idea being that you're reborn as an ascendant after your mortal form is sacrificed to empower the Seals, or something like that.
Lendren2011-01-14 16:36:13
Ceren apparently didn't have a name chosen and still was encouraged strongly enough to go ahead despite the lack of an idea, so I think it's as near to being required as makes no difference.
Llesvelt2011-01-14 16:39:55
The reason for the name "Fillin" is hillarious, though, and bug-related.
"Congratulations, Fill In Name!"
"Congratulations, Fill In Name!"

Viynain also doesn't end in "yin".
You're still meant to have a "y" in there somewhere! I wonder if this year's TA will follow the trend.

I thought the trend was to end in a 'in'?
Lendren2011-01-14 21:18:46
That's a retcon. The trend was to have an entirely egregious Y, but Fillin refused to conform with that, so the -in thing was chosen as a new trend, though it already fails to include Ayridion.

Ayridion was a proper Vernal God, though, so we can argue he's exempt, especially since when Soll un-ascent-ified he became Ilyarin.
Lendren2011-01-14 21:39:38
Of course, hence the "retcon" part. When this year's avoids the -in I'm sure some new pattern will be found that includes everyone in the past, except those for whom exceptions are made.
Jack2011-01-14 21:42:07
If this years avoids the "in", then the winner will be baked up a steaming batch of frownies.
Lehki2011-01-14 21:47:39
If I recall, it's not that he didn't want to go with the y thing, it's that he forgot about it during the hilarity of 'fill in name here'.

He wasn't a Vernal God though, Ascended Gods are classified independently from Vernals. The phrase "Vernal God" means "God of the People", which Ascended gods are(were) not.
That's bullcrap, they are categorized differently but I pulled that out of my kiester.
