This was a pretty big release for Bookbinding and a big change for how the mail works. Please give us constructive feedback!

I like the sound of it, especially the Origami part. Also, more people will seek out bookbinders and I think it is now a more profitable profession (before mostly a handful of the same authors would go to get books, and then a handful of Scrolls and whatnot). I am really excited for it!

Subj: Big Bookbinding Release!

A number of new Bookbinding skills have been released. See your local
bookbinder for details. Notable changes:

o Letters can no longer be requested from post offices. Buy them from
your local bookbinder, or from shops stocked by bookbinders. Letters can
only hold one item (but see below about a new skill for larger
packages). You also can no longer preserve letters.

o Bookbinders can now create stationery, which work just like letters,
but can be customized to any appearance desired. They also last longer
than letters.

o Artisan desks now halve the decay on letters and stationery stored
within them.

o Bookbinders can now create stamps, also called seals or chops, which
can be used to add an unforgeable signature to documents. Stamps can be
registered for either individuals or organizations (including cities,
communes, guilds, orders, clans, families, and cults), but note that
each one will require the purchase of an expensive Chop Certificate
(available for sale at the Hall of Records) to produce, so you will
probably only want to have one. Unlike other designed items, stamps
cannot be cartel-specific; instead, at the time of design, they are
linked to a sealholder, and that sealholder must be present when the
stamp is made. Documents can be stamped by up to six parties. Check with
your local bookbinder for the full details.

o Bookbinders now have four new Origami skills:

ActionOrigami: Can be used to deliver a single message and a single
object to someone; can be mailed.

ModularOrigami: A package that holds up to 25 items and preserves
them against decay when closed. Once closed, nothing
more can be added or removed. Perfect for the novice
starter kit, or mailing packages to people.

WetFoldOrigami: Offers an "origami charm" which benefits influencing
for one game day, then refreshes you.

Kirigami: Offers an "origami charm" which increases damage,
damage resistance, and criticals for one game day,
then refreshes you. You can only have one origami
charm at a time.

Note that all of these items (except Stamps) can be sold in shops.

Penned by My hand on the 14th of Kiani, in the year 285 CE.

Well, I'm stoked biggrin.gif

Thank you for the Modularorigami, people who want to make novicepacks are very happy. smile.gif

question: seeing as chops are costly, do only bookbinders buy these or does anyone?

It may not be clear, but you buy the certificate and the bookbinder makes the seal. Note that the bookbinder will receive part of the cost of the certificate back from the Hall of Records!

Time to save up and get a seal so I can retire that old Ascii signature.

So are chops artifacts (like a family seal) for a person, where they always have them to seal letters?

The stamp itself will (eventually) decay, after 125 months or so. The mark on the letters will of course be permanent.

(Your stamp can then be remade fairly cheaply, it's 10 or so comms or something.)
Pesukaru2010-12-30 19:57:55
So we're talking.... Heraldry biggrin.gif
Razenth2010-12-30 19:58:50
When I probed the certificates in the Hall, they had a decay time of 125 months.
Ayisdra2010-12-30 20:01:04
I think I would much like these as cheap artifacts (40-50cr) or so.

If you can't change the design once its been made, this might be a nice something to add.
Nariah2010-12-30 20:01:37
I'd love to get some feedback if only I could actually make any of thew new things. suspicious.gif

Stationery doesn't have a help file, origamis besides action ones don't even have design patterns. Can't see to make any of it work.

They're not artifacts but, once designed, they can be created for the family members (relatively cheaply) by any bookbinder. Of course, they only work for who they're designed for.

Oops. I kept misspelling stationery. AB should be up. We'll try and get a few basic origami designs up.

All the updates are now on the wiki.
Eventru2010-12-30 20:06:02
A couple of us will keep an eye on the design queue to speed up any origami designs that pop up today!

BOOKBINDING - STAMP

Syntax: DESIGN SEALHOLDER PERSON
DESIGN SEALHOLDER ORG
DESIGN SEAL_TEXT

Stamps, also called chops or seals, are used to imprint a distinctive symbol on documents that uniquely identifies the sealholder. A chop cannot be easily forged, and thus, is traditionally used on contracts, treaties, and other sensitive documents. Stamps can be associated with an individual or an organization such as a guild, city, commune, order, cult, clan, or family. Stamps associated with an organization can be used by the organization's leaders. Family seals are traditional passed on from parent to child when they become the family head.

Creating Stamp Designs:

Stamp designs are created by trademasters the same way as other designs. However, stamp designs cannot be limited to cartels and must only be public. Every stamp design has to be associated with a particular sealholder as follows:

DESIGN SEALHOLDER PERSON
DESIGN SEALHOLDER ORG

Stamp designs have an additional field called Seal_Text:

DESIGN SEAL_TEXT

This describes the appearance of the seal, or chop, which the stamp will imprint. The seal does not need to describe the person or organization directly (this will automatically be displayed).

Finally, submitting a stamp design requires a Chop Certificate, which can be purchased at the Hall of Records. There are separate Chop Certificates for personal and organizational stamps. Chop Certificates are quite expensive, because a single person or organization should not have many stamps (usually only one). The bookbinder will get part of the cost of the certificate back when the design is submitted.

Creating The Stamp:

Syntax: BOOKBIND STAMP

Bookbinders can only create a stamp in the presence of the sealholder (in the case of an organization, one of its leaders). The stamp will be delivered directly into the sealholder's hand.

Using The Stamp:

Syntax: STAMP WITH
Cost: 1 redtint

Only a sealholder may use a stamp. Only letters, stationery, and scrolls may be stamped, and each document can have up to six stamps. The document will reveal the chop when read or probed.
Pesukaru2010-12-30 20:06:20
Sigh. Now I have a reason to buy a bookbinding cartel. Darn you, Estarra!
Nariah2010-12-30 20:07:35
Would be nice if the stationery designing pattern 13193 showed up as a usable design too, else we can't even test things till we submit a design! worthy.gif
