Well...to be honest, some of my references came from reading comics(mostly manga), but most of them are usually stuff that comes to my head once in a while. Let's take the Thax scene, for instance - I imagine a particular scene that I like very much, then proceed to reimagine the setting that has the most...visual oomph for me.

Speaking of tablets... Finally colouring the Thax scene to the best of my novice painting abilities.

Judging is done blind by admin though, and some admin do check the forums.

True, but Synbios has submitted a few pieces now and his style is distinctive enough that I'm thinking the admins will be recognising his work by now.

I'm sure that's true for past winners as well. I don't think bardics/artisanals are judged blind, the way Beauty submissions are, anyway. (I usually had my name on most of my bardics, for one thing.)
