At this time, a new restriction has been placed on aetherships being able to dock on org related planes. You can no longer dock a ship on, say, Nil, or the water plane, unless your aethership has been linked to the appropriately corresponding nexus.
This means you can no longer use ships to travel to and from enemy planes. This also means that you can't whistle ships to said docks without being linked to their appropriate nexus.
In addition to this, it is now impossible to whistle ships across planes through aetherspace.
So, for a commune member who flew to Xion to bash, died there, and conglutinated, they can no longer use a whistle to recall their ship back to them on an elemental plane, unless their ship is linked to a city nexus appropriate to that plane, etc.
This is making me reconsider Estarra's offer for a refund on the whistle, and I thought it appropriate to inform others that may not yet be aware of such changes.

Both of these changes seem like very bad ideas to me.
If the primary use of whistles is intended to be for retrieving ships left around, then making them no longer work across planes makes no sense at all! A lot of utility has just been lost - moving a ship to your hunting ground, bringing it up to astral to spare you insanity or to reach unlinked spheres, reaching the godrealms, etc.
The second change is also a nerf to utility, but is a huge nerf to raiding. Ships have been the only way to depart cosmic planes once they are gate and nexus distorted, and have also been used as an entry point (though that is less common). There is always talk about ethereal forests being fortresses, but at least we have archways. At this point the only way to exit a distorted cosmic plane is the 2 minute uninterrupted cubix action?
I don't see the point of these changes at all. I understand the delay on whistles. Sure, they are intended to be used for utility, without greatly influencing combat situations... but this... Just what the heck?

These changes are killing the spirit of aetherships and aether travel...which is to, you know, travel to places.

ARGH I agree - now Cosmic is an unescapable fortress

In regards to the op- overkill, definitely.

What in the world. :/

I'm hoping this is just a glitch and not intended.
Estarra2011-01-03 18:09:54
This sounds like a glitch. Now that we're aware of it, we'll look into it.
