Astrologers are arguing against it, because western astrology is earth-centric (so the celestial placement of the actual bodies is irrelevant).

None of this is new... In my Physics class earlier this term, my professor brought us into the (tiny) planetarium at my school, and booted up a program that shows us the sky from any point on the earth (with varying degrees of accuracy based on where you are (city, mountains, etc)). The reason why the change in zodiac signs is happening NOW is pretty interesting.

The celestial bodies in space don't actually MOVE by themselves (okay, so technically they do, but relative to us they don't, so I'm still right). Rather, the Earth's axis of rotation moves about. It actually makes a complete circle once every 56,000 years or so. Thusly, the positions of the stars in the sky change accordingly. So, 3,000 years ago when the art of Astrology/science of Astronomy was created, your zodiac sign would ACTUALLY be your sign. However, due to the rotation of Earth's axis, they have since changed and people haven't updated their charts yet. This is us now playing catch up!

Unfortunately, the rest of that mumbo-jumbo about sun signs and other what-nots... I don't completely understand. All I know is that I'm now officially a Leo (was either a Virgo or Leo depending on what magazine you subscribed to). I think Leo is quite fitting of my personality!

No, an astronomer (scientist who studies stars) suggested that astrologers (mysticism based on the movement of celestial bodies) have their dates wrong because it doesn't account for the shift of the gravitational axis.

Astrologers at this point pretty much are forced not to care, because they haven't been able to pass it off as a science in a while, so making up stuff for a new zodiac sign would be just wreck their whole thing.

If you don't like your "new" sign, just say you adhere to the tropical zodiac instead of the sidereal and you're good to go!

And, as other people have already mentioned, it's not like these differences haven't been around for awhile - they've just gone viral.
