Back to Common Grounds.

So, the last time we got a new batch of achievements was back in March 2010, and so I figure that it'd be great to get another group added! The novice achievements made last year were great, but I do like aiming for more things to dabble around in (and xp boosts/free lessons are dandy too). If folk have ideas they'd like added, feel free to chime in. I've drawn some from the older thread, and more would be interesting to see!

The amount of things that go on in Viynain's head is staggering.

He needs a pet or something.

My only issue is what about for people who have previously done these things - will they have to re-do them? (I don't remember when achievements were put in, nor how they worked originally, as I didn't play at the time)

I already own a manse, am married, have a kid, etc...

Edit: Also, beastmastery achievements. superninja.gif

Certain things just had to be verified by the system, the kill counts you had to go out and kill something I believe, but other things, you'd have to do again (fae one from his org suggestion as an example)
Sylphas2011-01-18 14:00:25
The bank achievements are iffy. I really wouldn't feel like losing 2% of one billion gold, for example.

The rest sound good, except I'd be annoyed if I had to get GM over again, etc.
Unknown2011-01-18 14:23:17
These are all awesome, I want more achievements. I'll do anything if it involves getting achievements.

I wonder how sad it is that I'm much more likely to save up and buy a shop if it means I'll get an achievement?
Everiine2011-01-18 15:59:55
Ugh more achievements? I'm sorry, but every time I see a suggestion for yet ANOTHER way of OOC rewarding people for OOC gaming, I get really turned off. I thought achievements were really neat, I'm glad we have them, but are we really to the point where the only way we'll have fun anymore is to pull ourselves away from IC gaming again?
Diamondais2011-01-18 16:04:19
Don't participate in what you feel is the OOC bits if you have no interest in them, something like achievements are rather easy to avoid.

I don't understand how achievements are in any way a hindrance to role play.

- look at the things like hold family seat. contest for the seat, get seat and achievement. give back to the original holder.
- also most people do achievements only to say they have them. a lot of gaming can be done to just get the achievement and points for it. as I said anything that needs one as a leader where you can contest for the achievement and then give it back to the person who actually deserves it.

right now things like the gold and power and the higher honours I probably would never get and it would bug me to a point that I can never get them.
Shamarah2011-01-18 17:19:16
Achievements for elected positions are probably a bad idea, but I like all the rest of these!
Mirami2011-01-18 17:29:56
Yeah, as much as I like the idea of elected office achievements, it sounds like a bad idea in the end sad.gif

Maybe have an achievement for having a design with your name in the 'designedby' field successfully submitted?

Yeah, I agree that getting an achievement for a leadership position may not be a great idea.

That -is- the only reason to do achievements, whether you're playing here or Xbox or Steam. That's the beauty of them - they are meaningless points that we care about anyway. Some of them may be really hard to get, but that's why their called achievements and why they are worth more points.

Lusternia, where there are no winners and the points don't mean anything.

Yay, life in the thread after I went to bed! Now, let's see...

A lot of these things are already recorded by the system and can easily be accounted for, really, so achievements already gotten prior to implementation can get added to you. For instance, status lists your marital/divorce state, so that'll be counted, family tree likewise shows children and news posts in Politics record prior elected officials!

I don't quite understand this sentiment. For me personally, a -lot- of those achievements I tossed up were things I personally tried to do within the game. I like having a checklist of things in my Lusternian career that does show my accomplishments, and I don't see how getting 2 'points' (which don't do anything but move you up in a superfluous ranking system) for getting e-married hinder your roleplay immersion?

Elected positions usually involve the participation of a guild, city, commune or family - if you get an -entire- organization to abstain from its roleplay of who should lead the group just for a momentary boost in superfluous points for one individual, then that organization is doomed to fail as roleplayers anyway, no?

On a more positive note though, yay people like the names. biggrin.gif

that's the thing, achievements have no roleplay to them at all really. You just do them because they are a checklist and points for a score. Not everyone is going to get all of the achievement, which to me is counteracting what they are there for.

If there is going to be more achievements it should be something anyone can do relative easily.

I for one would definitely not want to see a lot of easy achievements. The current mix is rather nice, if you ask me (after all, far from everyone will kill and/or influence 100.000 mobs, or win 1000 arena duels).
