Impossible, he has no dream-self left.
Also, I really really tried to like the new characters, but it just feels like Hussy is trying to stretch out the storyline rather then actually developing it.

Well, Aradia, Rose, and Dave ascended when they only had one self left, and though for all of them it was the dream-self, there isn't really any evidence that that method can't be used with the real-self after the loss of the real self. When hussie was discussing ascension on his tumblr and describing what we know about the second method, he doesn't mention which version of the self, just that the player only has 1 life left.
I think the clearer issue is the loss of his quest bed/cocoon, since dieing there seems a requirement for both methods. Maye dieing on an imaginary dream dream bubble quest bed still counts. Or it could have just been an imaginary dream bubble outfit, though the bubbles have always been consistent with being based on real memories, as far as we've seen.
An even bigger issue is why am I spending so much time digging through comic archives and tumblr posts to look all this up. x,x

Oh did he? I totally missed those eyes in the 5-6 times I watched it. o_o *re-watches*
EDIT: Wait Nepeta has dead eyes too? She definitely did not have those when I watched yesterday, I remember noting it thinking that must be her from before she died... I guess I'm insane or them having normal eyes was a mistake Hussie fixed pretty quick? Oh well, whatever.

It looked like a bunch dead trolls we could assume were from the alpha-timeline or the people riding the asteroid. The only peculiar one being that dead god-tier Karkat, which we really don't know what the deal with that was, but easily have been an alt-timeline Karkat. We saw an alt-timeline bubble interact with an alpha-timeline bubble before.
