Thoroughly enjoying my bard/riftstalker/whatever dps role I settle on. Currently seeing how Blademaster is for soloing. Faster than Bard, I think, but I don't sit permanently at max health, so there's the tradeoff.

I have a warrior on my current server but not really enjoying it (have to drink wine after most battles, annoying). Not a fan of rogues particularly: aren't their combo points non-transferrable? Is that even much of an issue? Only class I haven't tried yet is rogue, actually. I just want a nice relatively tanky class with DPS for solo hunting for now! smile.gif

Riftstalkers can transfer combo points if they get the top talent. It's not a huge issue, usually. If you're tanking, all of your defensive finishers last about a minute, and it only takes 15 seconds or so to get them all going, so you can kind of ignore combo points most of the time. The rest of the time combo points aren't all that annoying. With their 1s global cooldown, Rogues can pop a full finisher on anything that lasts five seconds or more, sometimes less. Fast target swapping will lower their dps, but it hasn't been much an issue for me.

Bladedancer seems like it's custom designed to fill the "tanky DPS for solo hunting" niche. It gets dodge and parry buffs, counterattacks automatically on a dodge, can use Reprisal when you avoid a hit, gets damage buffs when you avoid a hit, and has some pretty powerful cooldowns to use. I have to drink occasionally, but not often. Riftstalker can also do relatively well, and they have a talent that grants them health for each unspent combo point when they kill something. Bards can solo forever as long as they don't pull more than two things at a time, at least in the mid 20s.

I think I'm going to roll a character on Firesand as well. May as well give Guardian a go, I suppose. Will have to learn all the areas again, ahhhh. At least it will be fresh and new. smile.gif What class did you pick? smile.gif

Rogue. Ingame name Myrhial. Playing as a Nightblade, which is confusing yet awesome, and no clue if I am playing it right at all. Will probably pick up riftstalker as a second role and see if anyone lets me tank Fae, likely the only way I'll ever get to see that place. laugh.gif

There's always a tank shortage, and Riftstalkers do it well enough that I haven't had anyone complain yet. It's tricky at first tanking with combo points, but you'll get the hang of it.

Yeah, having tanked as the various classes in WoW I can see similarities in this. From playing it solo before I noticed that the extra aggro skills do a lot of extra aggro too, so should be fine.

How are you finding the bard class, can it solo heal or is it really a pure supporter? Thinking of getting that for a third soul set, and use the last for the pvp soul.

Bards can't quite main heal, though if you cc enough they can probably get through trash in an instance, depending on how hard it hits. They are really, really good at backing up another healer and bringing the buffs, though, to the point where I've seen people specifically trying to fill the fifth slot in their group with a bard. The healer will only really have to top up the tank once in a while, anyone not taking consistent, hard damage will be full. The lack of any directly targeted heals means that if someone takes a sudden spike there's zero we can do about it besides hope they don't get hit again before Cadence and Motif of Regeneration top them off.

Gotcha. Question for those finishing up the starting zones: Did you get the related faction to honored? I ended up halfway decorated doing pretty much everything and I am wondering if that is "normal"? Because the rewards at honored look like they will soon get dated in the following quest zone.
Sylphas2011-03-10 20:54:03
Factions rewards get dated, but you get rep fast enough that you'll replace it with next zone's rep items.

Rave for the bug being fixed that would cause me to teleport through the world as a Riftstalker!

Been having a lot of fun with this when I have time to play, which isn't very often. A bunch of us from work put together a Defiant guild on Gnarlwood and did some recruiting. We aren't as leveled as some of the other guilds but we have managed to run multiple groups through the various dungeons. Currently running a riftblade/reaver combo. Even with crest of the abyss broken I haven't had any problems as main tank.
Sylphas2011-03-15 00:31:13
I really want my fourth role slot, so I can actually fill a DPS slot in a group. I never thought I'd need quad specs to be able to DPS as a Rogue, but apparently I do.

What are you first three then? Tank, bard ... PVP soul?

Riftstalker to tank, Bard for support, and Bladedancer for soloing. I suppose I could dps with it, but it's not ideal, since you lose a lot of dps if you're not being hit.
