So just to be clear, you guys are dueling and all that's needed to start one is shouting something about rebels at the other guy and shouting back?
Unknown2011-02-17 22:25:17
That's what Tekora said, there is no set phrase that they have to say.
Ileein2011-02-17 22:27:50
I think the only thing is it has to be clear you're challenging them to a duel, but yeah.

I find that logic faulty.
1. Three Yellow Turban generals seems like a logical number (the wiki article points to three main leaders). With that low a number, losing a duel could be devastating. Why would you risk that much?
2. We have no idea how much/what is revealed. As the first duel of the game, this is a huge risk. If, for example, Xikue's soldiers go marching into battle with yellow turbans, that would be a BIIIIIIG hint.
3. If you start a duel with someone you think is scum, you can remove their ability to vote. That is a very nice advantage to taking someone out.

1. Eh. I still think it's a day-related thing, considering the timestamps of Tekora's posts.
2. I don't think they wore turbans, exactly. If you're actually right about the Rebellion generals, you'd want to look for some sort of yellow headdress.
3. Without knowing what factors in behind the GM curtain, you can also lose your ability to vote, giving scum the advantage. I don't think it's that beneficial to town towards the end.

1. Never underestimate a Sorcerer!
2. They wore yellow scarves. I read that on wikipedia. Some translations are yellow turbans, others are yellow scarves.
3. Yeah, this is a crazy suicide maneuver. But he who dares, wins!

I think it's fairly obvious that a double vote helps the scum more than it helps the town, assuming that there is a traditional mafia group in this game (that is, they all know one another's identities). Two reasons for this:
1. They can guarantee that they will not misuse it. If the scum know who all the other scum are, they won't be double-voting for each other unless busing is absolutely necessary for some reason.
2. It increases their voting power by a greater % than it does for the town. If there are 4 scum, a double vote increases the size of their vote bloc by 25% (assuming they are not dueling each other). Admittedly, though, the scum also have more to lose by losing a duel, in this case.

Also, while I recognize that playing "guess the mod" is dangerous, it's worth considering that there are probably abilities that relate to the duel system (eg. you automatically win when defending, you automatically win when attacking, whatever) and it doesn't seem like a stretch to think that the scum might have access to one of these.

That's my understanding of duels. Though until we see one play out in full, guesses are really all we have.

Yeah. That's why I'm rather keen on seeing one myself. If it weren't for my rear being crushed, I'd have challenged someone myself just to see what'd happen.

The first thing I think of after reading "my rear being crushed" is an injured kephera.
For some reason the

Oh cripe.
BRING OUT MAH BATTLE GEAR.

That's definitely not my first thought.
Anyway, glad to see someone is doing a duel thing, since I am quite curious how they will work out! LET US SEE WHAT IS HAPPEN.
Rika2011-02-17 23:09:01
The "behind the GM's curtain" part makes me think that the duel results are at least in part predetermined.

If so, one word of wisdom everyone should heed.
Do NOT pursue Lu Bu.
Shamarah2011-02-17 23:24:08
Well, I can't imagine doing a duel would allow us to verify rolenames, otherwise it would be trivial to figure out what dynasty the player belongs to.
... unless you were just joking.

I am just saying, if you ever work out who Lu Bu is, challenging him to a duel would be a bad idea.

Watch as Xikue is Lu Bu and I get slaughtered.

Casilu and Xiran are locked in as today's duel, result will be posted when I get home.

Would have to laugh after all the fuss if that is true!
Kalaneya2011-02-18 00:28:37
Lu Bu wasn't part of any of the kingdoms, I thought, just a warlord who happened to have a very nice hat and a whole lot of mercilessness. SK? Maybe another group with Dong Zhuo? Pro-Han faction would probably have to wipe them out too.
Oh man, if Diaochan is in this game that would be an epic set of win conditions for those three.
