I am so glad I was able to win the Wand of Windwalls. It was pretty scary at the end. I thought I wouldn't be able to afford it but my bid of 475 on the Censer of Water was outbid so decided to go all out on the Wand of Windwalls instead.

Also, Syridean, didn't you say you were bidding on the Flute of Winds and Focus Rune? I may be remembering incorrectly, but I thought you said that you wanted people to outbid you on those two items so you could consolidate your credits to bid on the Planar Rune. If this is the case, I do not believe Veyrzhul was in the room at the time. Many of us in the room were also holding a private conversation, so what you said may have been missed anyway. That's just my speculation.

This was a tad later on, and Vey wasn't the one who outbid me. After the Planar runes went past my projected budget I was still split between one of the three-item auctions and the focus rune. The Focus rune got outbid, and I was waffling on dumping into the other auction or waiting. I waited too long, and got sniped in the last 20-30 seconds, then the auctions closed before I could place any more bids elsewhere. The sniper then smiled at me and left without a word, so I'm faaairly certain he or she knew what was happening.

(I'm intentionally using ambiguous terms and not identifying the person or the lot to avoid letting this get any touchier than it already is. Even if you know or can figure out the specifics, I'd appreciate the same.))

Short version: I made a mistake, I won't make it again, but I feel a little hurt that I even needed to exercise caution.

We now know exactly who funds Estarra's Evil Empire.
Kiradawea2011-04-02 11:29:58
Estarra should one day put on an auction, then bid 10000 credits on every single item. Juuust to mess with the players.

censor.gif non-specific syntax. Was only meant to bid 120 sad.gif
Kiradawea2011-04-02 13:29:30
At least you got it then, otherwise I would've gotten it at 125 credits, as that was the can I aimed for first, but I wasn't willing to pay more than 200 credits for it. (Honestly, I wasn't even entirely willing to pay that, but I kept screwing up the syntax, so I got desperate and just bid 200).
Daraius2011-04-02 13:40:58
And I sold a ton of credits at outrageously inflated prices. biggrin.gif

I bet it'll be a while before I can buy them back at 6000, though.
Ssaliss2011-04-02 13:41:08
Couldn't you have at least bid 215? sad.gif

Speaking of which... Seeking a loan of 35 credits.
Esano2011-04-02 13:46:41
We need a BID RESET MAXIMUM syntax, which drops your maximum bid to your current.
Ssaliss2011-04-02 13:47:52
Definitely. Also, remove BID INCREASE, and let BID increase your maximum even if you're winning the auction.

While we're at it, a BID WITHDRAW with an hour cooldown to avoid abuse.

This one kind of goes against the spirit of a live auction though.

I think that would be weird, if Esano's suggestion comes through. You being able to withdraw your bid entirely would likely become very messy in the end. Also, it'd allow you to find out exactly how high the other bids are, allowing for maximum griefage.
Unknown2011-04-02 15:15:50
Well, I sure would appreciate being able to take back misbids one way or another.
Xiel2011-04-02 15:25:18
Oh, hey, I won stuff. I couldn't log in at all last night (and currently either, yay phone), so I was worried I'd lose out. Woo toys and hellooooo affording a cord still. biggrin.gif

I had dreams that Xenthos was stealing all my auction arties because I went to bed before the auction ended. I was actually surprised to find I had some of the stuff when I logged in this morning (especially the divine manna).

You somehow picked the one I was not bidding on!

A few things that I think would make auctions nicer:

-When all is said and done, the admin could go through and pick out a few artifacts that they feel reached a high enough price/would be appropriate to do so, and give people a window to pay the highest winning bid to purchase a given artifact. Chosen after the fact, it would prevent people from trying to game this system. Doing this would be a nice gesture to people who couldn't be there for the end of auctions, and soothe some of the bad feelings that can be generated.

-I had something else but I totally forgot it while I was writing that out. Oh well.
