I can speak a little bit of Adnyamathanha and an even smaller amount of Pitjatjanjara - these are two Aboriginal languages here in Australia. I am not Aboriginal myself - but have grown with a lot of extended family who are Aboriginal (mainly Adnyamathanha people - but I learn Pitjatjanjara at school)

That is cool.

Whee, this thread is interesting.
I speak Mandarin Chinese (native language) and English as (technically) a second language. In practice, though, it's hard to say which one I feel more comfortable with. Probably Chinese for day-to-day spoken usage, and English for written/verbal/artsy things. This is because Chinese is a to write properly due to the characters being so argh-inducing. When your word for sneeze looks like this: å–·åš, it's really easy to just facepalm and give up. In comparison, English is blessedly simple.
I do want to learn more languages in college, though. French to start with, maybe some Finnish (it's so pretty!) and Latin. And, uh, ancient Egyptian, just because we have that class.

Yes, Finnish is very very pretty. I'd love to learn it.

The language that I really want to learn is sign language.

Parlo un pu l'italiano, ma non sono bene. Sono molto male. L'imparo, ma è il cosa più dificile che ho fatto. Voglio provare il mio italiano sul Skype con altri. Una volta ho scritto e ho letto il latino, ma non addesso.
I speak a little italian, but I am not good. I'm very bad. I am learning it, but it is the most difficult thing that I have done. I want to try my Italian on Skype with others. Once I read and wrote Latin, but not now.
My first language is English (obviously). My second language was PET BASIC. I also speak C#, Java, XSLT, and a few other languages.

I'm surprised we have more French-speakers than Spanish-speakers. A pretty big portion of our playerbase is from the USA, isn't Spanish the big thing there? Then again, I guess there are a few Canadians too.
Only near the Mexican border. I hear tons of Russian and Hindi where I live, never any Spanish. I believe (could be wrong) that French historically has been the #1 choice of Americans learning a second language in grade school. My cousin, for example, chose that for whatever reason and is fluent. Combine that with Quebec and New Orleans, and that could explain it.

Spanish is one of the fastest growing populations in the US - I'm actually surprised Spanish is so low, neing that much of the west and south (either from Central/South America or Cuba/Puerto Rico) have large spanish-speaking populations.
Unsurprisingly, it is also a second language for me, English being my first. I spoke a fair amount of german as a child, but all I remember anymore is how to be a sarcastic ass at my grandfather's dinner table, and to insult his card playing "skills".
Spanish shouldn't be a surprise, though - I grew up in South Florida, and both my parents were spanish translators in the US Air-force. Were I to learn another language, it would probably be something like farsi/persian, or hebrew. Something quite different and stressful, because I'm a masochist.

I speak Cuban, Miamian and Choshu-ben. Playing Lusternia is the only time I feel balanced with the three people fighting for control of my body. I don't have to think about who -I- am.
Unfortunately, I have yet to perfect any of the three.
I think every human being should learn at least 3 - 5 different languages in their lifetime. Our tongues can basically distinguish four or five different tastes... more for the refined palettes.
EDIT: I'll never forget meeting people from the UK here in Japan and them telling me that I don't speak English... but American. That, and realizing there were two different types of dictionary - Webster and Oxford.

Ok Fuyu, Alac the next time Stangmar or whoever he plays right now is online send him an invite! We will not let him lose practice! It's always a pleasant surprise to find anyone who knows a common tongue other than English.
Personally my first language was english, though time and 2 more langauges (well one is a dialect) more or less degenerated that grasp of English. So english, tagalog and various versions of the bicol dialect (which at times crosses with bisaya in the southern regions) learned a few conversational japanese as an elementary school student but also died out due to lack of practice. Spanish is strongly tied with tagalog so I can understand some phrases and speak a little as well.
Again stangmar i encourage you to seek fuyu alacardael or myself when you are online, free up a clanslot and talk with us!

Cge, pag nakaonline ako, magchat tayo.
I don't get online a whole lot, and when I do it's usually just to try and catch up with old fogies. I am trying to reduce my internet time as much as possible so that am not an addict when I go back to college in August. I have to use it a lot right now because there's not a lot of people in my neck of the woods that I want to spend any time with.

I speak English and French fluently, and Hungarian well enough that I can get around and read LotR in Hungarian really really really really slowly.
Apparently I speak Hungarian with a French accent. It's the stupid rs. I can't trill them for the life of me so I default to French r as a non English one :/
The French has really helped so I can (mostly) understand other romance languages if the other person is speaking really slowly. I'm also surprised by how many more people speak French than Spanish on the poll.
When I was much younger I could speak Dutch pretty fluently, but we moved back to the states and I forgot it all. I might be able to pick it up again, but there isn't exactly a lot of opportunities to try.
