You'll want to trans resilience for the shrugging anyways, probably. More combat would probably be good also.

17% more shrugging and 12 physical DMP doesn't seem like all that much to be spending 300 credits on when I've got 78/78 armor, psymet, several methods of alternate curing, monk hindering, and bodyfuel. I dunno, just seems like those resilience credits might be better spent on elemental or bleeding runes, unless I'm missing something.
Ilyssa2011-07-28 23:04:18
Investing in skills is usually much more useful than artifacts, unless it's Arts, Dramatics (which could be useful if you were a bard), a demesne rune, ect. IMO the 34 or so lessons in Arts is nice to let you Glasswork your own vials, make your own tinderbox, and such. Learning Planar to 0% Virtuoso will also net you Link if you don't already have it and give you AstroWave. Squinting in Environment is only 16 lessons (12 if you took the inital 4 for 50% inept in Environment for survey.
For big stuff, finishing off Combat would be useful if you're confident that you don't need to trans Resilience and Lowmagic right away, even though it should be one of your priorities regardless of archetype. I'm a trans forger loboshigaru, and I have to say that I definitely noticed the damage reduction from Resilience in bashing.

Hijacked!
So I'm finally earning a steady trickle of credits and wondering what I should be spending lessons on. I've also finally got a semi-functional combat system so I want to try and get more into that.
Luenn is a Lobo, so with lobo regen, harmony regen and psymet regen, and the all the damage resistances in psymet, I don't think I really need too much in the way of resilience or highmagic for damage reduction, but I don't really know what the effect would be.
3s writhe is killing me. Is there anything I can get/do to speed that up (Other than Tipheret)
I'm also considering saving up for a beast, but is there anything I should be aiming for first? (e.g. skills, artifact runes etc.)

I'd rather not switch, but I've been reading Janalon's old Psymet thread, to get an idea of how to use psymet properly in combat and it isn't looking good.

Psymet isn't that bad for combat. What race are you? (and have you considered changing?)
Ilyssa2011-08-01 15:12:18
Isn't there a skill in Harmony to reduce writhe time?
There really isn't anything wrong with more Magic since it'll give more resistance to magic-based damage, which loboshigaru are naturally weak against. Mind posting your Bodyscan?

Akhchu gives you chance to avoid entanglement I think, like Crow Spiderweb. Akhoosh lets you move whislt entangled.

Lobo. Considered changing to faeling for the extra speed, but I'm not sure the loss of tankiness would be worth it. (Then again, psymet is pretty tanky anyway, but lobo to faeling is a BIG drop). Maybe if I could afford regen runes.

There's the two that Starfire mentioned. Doesn't reduce writhe time so much as help avoid being entangled, which should be useful against druids (The main problem
being that as soon as I've escaped one thornlash, I've got another. Akhoosh should also just help me run away from those situations. Seems like these are what I should be aiming for.

I didn't say that it was wrong,, just that I wasn't sure I needed it
If the bodyscan helps, sure

I've really been meaning to get absorption tattoos...
Ilyssa2011-08-02 02:27:25
I'm not sure that tattoos show up under robes, so you'll have to weigh the benefits of Tattoos against that of robes - specifically the fact that you don't have any poison or asphyxiation DMP - Aquamancers and Pyromancers can do 100% Asphyxiation damage with Staffcast now, and that poison DMP is hard to come by.
Since you have Tailoring you're probably set on robes, and so you can always HOLD BREATH (Ability in Discipline) during hold-outs if you're being pummeled at a range.
If you have a little bit of extra credits left over, I think Resilience gives some DMP once you hit Master and you're already at Adept. It couldn't hurt but I don't know if that's correct.
I'd stick with the Harmony mantras as far as writhing goes.
A custom beast isn't really worth it for you if you're looking to do combat, the only need you'd really have for one would be flying for a couple of quests until you want to get Spit, but that's not for a while.
Race changes can be really helpful or really... not helpful. As far as tanking as a a Faeling Psymet goes, I don't think your health pool would be large enough for the health regen to matter; you can get bursted down before you can tic the regen.
Learning up to Magiclist in Discernment and AstroWave in Planar can provide some nice utility. If it's not what you're looking for I would recommend shooting for BloodBoil in PsyMet, you pick up some really nice things along the way. Learning up to the Prism ability in Harmony would also give you some nifty things.
P.S. Pick up the DMP-potions from Lorecraft and the nifty new Nimbus enchantment from a Cosmic Enchanter!

Really? I thought it was just that the extra DMP bonus from TATTOOS ARMOUR that monks get doesn't stack with robes, but the other bonuses do. Can anyone who actually has tattoos confirm?

Now that you mention it most of the useful combat abilities are at the very top. It's a bit of a luxury I don't really need compared with other abilities.

I'm sure I've seen some demigod faelings with around 4000hp, but that's a whole other thing (I'm level 74!) Maybe something to think about MUCH later.

I grabbed potionlist in discernment (good to know how many sips are left in a vial), but I've written a quick script that does exactly the same thing as magiclist (but slower, though It's not like its time sensitive). I'm not sure what the utility in planar is. Everything I've read is pretty emphatic about the DO NOT LINKBASH UNTIL LEVEL 90 thing. I don't think I've ever been in a situation where I found myself saying: "man I wish I had gateweave," I don't really spend much time more than 4 planes away from anyone I want to talk to (I'm not even sure what is that far away. Aetherbubbles?)
I'm definitely going to aim for Akhoosh (that prism ability is on the way), Then it's probably going to be a toss up between transcending harmony (another instakill would be nice, even if I don't have any reliable way to pull it off outside of a group fight) or bloodboil in psymet (It'd be nice not to waste all my mana on clotting, leaving me open to instakills)

Would the DMP potions your referring to be galvanism? or is there another?
Sylphas2011-08-02 04:38:34
I have 5082 health as a demigod faeling with the endowment of life, life domoth, and a 5% health rune. Tattoo DMP stacks with robes; I believe it's the TattooMaster DMP boost and armour that doesn't.
Ilyssa2011-08-02 05:13:53
Ah, alright. Like I said, I wasn't sure about the Tat's thing
As a Harmony Psymet lobo I dare say you could take a gamble linking some of the weaker spheres, or some of the ones you can build strong DMP against. Fesixes and Mitrans are the weakest Astral mobs - They're on Leo(?) And Libra respectively. Don't let me pressure you into it if you're not sure though.
The Planar would give you Link and Astrowave most importantly, it'd be the distance of Prime to Astral and can certainly be useful, though not.a top priority.
Deathtouch is... one of if not the hardest instakills to pull off. You have three times as much possble regen to fight off. You'd be much better off learning Bloodboil, but getting that and other Harmony stuff is really a decision on your part.
Off the top of my head I can name frost, fire, and galvanism.

Haven't tested it, but isn't Astral to prime 4 planes? (Cosmic is one plane away, elemental 2, ethereal 3, prime 4? or does it count the plane you are on as well?)
Didn't realise that fire and frost gave DMP, I've just been using them to avoid/cure shivering and being set on fire. Another thing to add to the list.
I was thinking deathtouch would be useful in a group fight, if 2 other people were going for a mana based/ego based instakill. I could be wrong, but I don't think any seren guild actually has an ego based instakill, so it'd only be useful if were were partnering with Mag on a raid or something like that. Bloodboil is definitely looking way better.
I guess that's taken care of my goals for a month or two. thanks for the advice guys

I suppose I'm just thinking of that old middle school maths problem: If the posts of a fence are 1 metre apart, and there are five fence posts, how long is the fence? The trap most kids fall into is to say that it's five metres long, but if you just draw a diagram it's reasonably easy to see that the answer is actually four.
Another example is that two days away is not tomorrow. You generally don't count the first post in such situations.
If that is the way it works in game that should probably be clarified somewhere.
