We're not all benefiting or losing relatively the same from the bugs...
Arel2011-05-05 16:22:03
My excitement for the system has worn off. After looking at it, it seems like a good deal of the honour gains are limited to great houses only. It would be nice if elected positions would still give family honour, even if you aren't allied with a city (since lesser houses can't do that). I feel like I'm going to log in every day to see "Oh cool, honour from someone published something!" and then for the next two weeks watch as the inactivity drain sucks that honour away again. Repeat forever, until we start rapaciously adopting with no concern for our RP or standards.
Razenth2011-05-05 17:04:42
Why do you think all the Lesser Houses used to be in the negatives?
Unknown2011-05-05 17:07:32
The decay tic shouldn't put you into negative honour, at least. That's just silly.
Eventru2011-05-05 17:14:23
Org association and patronage are shared by a banner house via its liege house - Lesser Houses that refuse to become banner houses, or get a following of banner houses to boost them into great house status. will not have the same passive benefits. However, they still have:
Bashing, influencing, aetherflares (PvP and bombarding), debating people out/PvP during village revolts, defending, publishing, performing in plays, and ranked sparring, marrying people in and adopting, all available to gain honour. A single one of any of these will give the minimum threshold (100) honour to stave off decay.
If your family is unable (or unwilling?) to do these, well. I'm sorry, that's just the way the cookie crumbles.
(Really, the only gains limited to aligned families are: Passive gains for elected and order heads, offering to patron, and influencing in revolts, as far as I can recall. Sorry, I'm just not buying it!)

It doesn't anymore, supposedly. While I'm not ready to give up on this new system yet, I do agree with Arel a bit. Most of the complaints about the old system was how little the Lesser Houses could do. It doesn't make sense to me that the Shevats can't be recognized for having people in power in Hallifax.
Shiri2011-05-05 17:47:56
That wasn't "most of the complaints about the old system" by a long shot.
Eventru2011-05-05 17:50:45
The system was redesigned to encourage lesser house/great house groupings - in an ideal city, one would see a few great houses and a multitude of lesser houses. I'm only sympathetic insofar as 'Hallifax lacks the longevity of other orgs for a Great House' - the org-reliant gains are too few for me to really look upon complaints of exclusion with much seriousness.
In the old system, there were all of three or four means of gaining honour, one of the biggest and easiest being passive gains - that no longer exists in the new system. Frankly, the gains for holding a position are minuscule at best, and I'm more tempted to simply suggest their removal - because apparently that mentality still exists. Of a four or five means of gaining honour you can log in and do right now or at any given point in time, the apparent point of contention and 'good deal' of the means available to gain honour are is a single one. I'm flabbergasted, honestly.
Bottom line: You gain 50 honour per elected position. You make more honour in an hour of bashing/influencing, if you're fairly slow. I'm just not buying it.

It's going to be less of a big deal if inactivity were less of a hit. Keep Great House hits at 2000, but drop Lesser House hits to like 500 or so. They have different max honours that reflect on this respectively, and it should be a lot more telling of a family's waning if the minimum of fifty for a great house can't manage one tic, as compared to the minimum of... what, 15 for lesser?
I still want to know if family race bonus points are only supposed to go to great houses or not. I'll be quite happy to not waste time as an unspecced elfen warrior if it's only for great houses, so confirmation would be great.

That's a fair argument, and one I can agree with.
Right now the race bonus is only going to aligned families (which is a bug), it'll be fixed shortly.
The racial bonus is only +20 per member, so it certainly isn't end-of-the-world if you're not getting it on one person. It also, as I've said before, does not count towards the threshold-to-stop-decay.
Lilia2011-05-05 18:03:17
Yeah, I guess that's what's bothering me, the 'that's how it used to be' thing. It hasn't really been long enough to see what the hunting/influencing gains are like.
Ileein2011-05-05 18:05:11
I worked on the influence tic, and Arel and I on the hunting tic, and it seemed like it took longer than it should have, to my eyes. :/ At any rate, I'm not sure of the point of bothering with family honour as a Lesser House, so we should probably focus more on farming people coming out of the Portal than farming kephera/monks/whatever. Sigh.

Thanks, Eventru.
It doesn't take too terribly long for a dedicated character to get a few tics in a weave, and the other stuff that got the current great houses big gains are already being reduced, so you won't see the same thing happening in the future. I think right now this has less to do with Great vs Lesser and more to do with luck (ie, the 9 village influence tics valued at 350 a pop) and the fact that Greater houses will, by their nature, simply have more people to generate more honour.

Maybe I'm missing something. Dawneye had two people acknowledge the family and it showed in the logs but we still got hammered by the passive drain. So is that a bug too or does that just not count for a gain bonus that staves off the passive drain?

According to Talan, we had people bombard in the aetherflares but we received no honours tick for that, do I need to bug that?
Lilia2011-05-05 18:43:31
We got the passive drain too, even though there was a hunting tic, so it's probably a bug.

I'm not refering to that bug, I'm refering to E saying that lesser houses get honour for bombarding and we bombarded and received no honour for it
Revan2011-05-05 18:56:37
Natural decay isn't supposed to put honour in the negative.... and yet it did, even though the HELP FAMILYHONOUR file specifically states such

That's cool, I wasn't referring to you either I keep forgetting to quote, and get ninja'd

Only GH's get Epic Quest honour? So hold off on doing the epic until you reach GH?
Bannerhouses contribute 1/4 of their population to the liege house?
