Have the admins come to any consensus on whether or not to allow historical houses to have their city set before reaching great house status?

This definitely should be a thing. thumup.gif

I'd argue historical houses are more strongly tied to their cities than any race or orientation. It should be one of those cannot-be-changed aspects for any historical house, even lesser ones.

Sure. Ask Talan to knit you a Ysav'rai sweater, wave it all day long!

I'm 98% sure Historical Families can't actually be removed from their cities - I'm just not entirely sure on forcing it initially (from a code standpoint). Would have to rewrite and edit some things.

I think Eve has said previously that it is one of those cannot-be-changed things, it just doesn't happen until you hit Great House. Then your city affiliation autosets for you and cannot be changed. I think it'd be cool if Historical Houses got the recognition of org affiliation even before Great House. It just seems kind of silly (to me) that historical families just aren't officially affiliated until they reach Great House. Lesser Houses are already capped at 50,000 honour (and Shevat and Ysav'rai are almost there already), so it isn't like Lesser Houses having the org affiliation are going to unbalance things since they can never be Most Honourable Family or hit the benchmark to appoint a council member to the city/commune ruling council. The extra honour gain from the city-related things isn't really a debalancer for non historical houses either, since Shevat and Ysav'rai are almost to the cap already through non-org related things.

But you are mechanically prohibiting me from doing this in the system!

Family pledge ysav'rai

Only the head of a Bannerhouse may pledge a family to another family.

Well of course, you're just a man, not a house!

Though that'd be kind of cool.... (If I could photoshop, we'd have a house with flails! Yes, I know you use rapiers, but flails are more appropriate!)

Sorry, I don't really buy into the belief of 'bannerman' gaining honour for a house they've pledged to. If you want to join another house, join it!

HELP 4.10

I can't tell if you two are trolling each other or having a real discussion.
Diamondais2011-05-24 01:10:57
I would hazard the guess of having a mix of both.

HELP 4.10

I have a question for you.

Let us say that Estarra added in Cults and God Realms, giving Gods a whole number of new toys and options to play with their order with. Then let us say that she said, "To be able to participate in this, you must decide whether or not your current role and participation with your Order is important to you; if you want to use the God Realm, expand it, add new toys and quests to it and your Temple, you must sever all communication and interaction with your Order and City. You will just become a behind-the-scenes God."

Would you feel annoyed about having to make this choice, for no particular or good reason? Given that you enjoy both of these things, I fully suspect you would.

Telling a player that they need to ditch their family / history / loyalty thing in order to participate in a new feature that is added in later is an an extremely frustrating statement to read. Especially when you yourself state that a solution to the whole thing would be able to be easily done. :/

Actually, I've made a great effort to build up Eventru's god realm (and have plans to continue to do so) in such a manner that Eventru is no longer a god readily communicated with, so that my order can (hopefully) run itself - so your example falls pretty short.

However, I do appreciate the situation you're in - unfortunately, I also recognize the nature of the system and its intentions, and while I'm sympathetic with your state, I also recognize that it's not something likely to change. It is designed for a greater scale of participation, for houses to compete against other houses. Four, five people isn't much of a house, but a family (mother/father/son/son/daughter or something akin to this). It doesn't grow into a house until more are added (15+ people seems a reasonable limit to me), growing beyond a simple family.

I can see where you sit, and know well enough as to why you maintain the situation - but for the same reasons you mentioned, beyond simply code limitations, it's just not reasonable. I want to say 'Go be the sworn bannerman!', but the system isn't designed for that. It's not how it's intended. However, I do want to point out that is not outside the realm of reason that, when a man's wife is gone for centuries, he's generally remarried at least once!

We've had this conversation before, on a few different occasions, and unfortunately the answer does not and very likely will not change. I was just teasing (hopefully with!) you, as I know we've gone down this road before.

That's pretty close to perfect, though I pictured the house as more of a pastel yellow and possessing a white picket fence (and I'd like to think Xenthos trims his yard!)

But I suppose purple (that is purple, right? Blue or purple or indigo or something on that side of the spectrum - sorry, I'm a little colour blind!) is more appropriate. Wyrdo.

Originally wanted to use this, but decided against it.
