The difficult thing might be to know when people joined a family, but perhaps that's recorded for posterity, too.
Enyalida2011-05-04 18:12:52
Lesson gains for the achievement tasks gotten by completing collegium tasks were retroactive, they just checked GUILD STATUS and if you had the message that you had them all done, bam! It awarded the lessons to you. I don't see why it wouldn't be possible to run through the people who are on POLITICS FAMILIES already (and who are eligible for the quest honour, might only be GHs, if so, even easier), see if they have the full honours line for a particular orgs Epic, and if their family is aligned there, give the bonus. Because it's a new system it is a little weird to punish more established families and support a newer and more transient family that hasn't gotten their orgbixes yet. After the check to catch everyone up, you would have to do it after joining a family to get the honour, as usual.
Honestly, if they wanted to go back and do in all of the book rewards, they could, it would just require checking each of the huge mass of publications, which would be unimaginably time/system consuming. There have also been instances in the past where the name listed was not the person who wrote the work, or anthologies have been submitted (pretty often on that one).
The different I see in repeatability between orgbix and books is that publish books in no way limits you from publishing more books, while doing the orgbix totally stops you from doing it again (unless you are willing to quit orgs and rejoin, and redo the long arduous quests).

Let me join Kalas before they do that.
I doubt they can verify that you were part of a family when you completed the quest. Looking at families now and if you did the quest will grant some families more honor and others wouldn't get any despite legitimately deserving it.
Nydekion2011-05-04 18:34:42
I agree with Catarin. While it's tempting to have something like an epic give retroactive honor, it sets a poor precedent because basically then it is arguable that any action that should give honor now should have past actions counted as well (bashing, influencing, player kills, etc). It's far cleaner to just leave it as a clean slate from the point the new system was put in and not worry about things that happened in the past.

Especially because, again, very few families are actually formally 'affiliated' with a city/commune, and I doubt that number will grow very fast at all.
Lendren2011-05-04 19:31:38
What they really need is a way for you to re-do the epic quest when you already have the orgbix just to gain the honor, without losing your orgbix in the process. But that's probably way harder to code than it'd be worth.

Not sure how that's relevant.
Some families will have the retroactive honor given to them unfairly.
The possibility exists, period, if they do it that way.
Unknown2011-05-04 20:05:30
Whatever happens, I'm not likely to do the whole epic cycle again.

If someone was really dedicated, could they leave and rejoin an org repeatedly to keep adding power from the epic quest?

If they wanted to get stabbed by the admin, sure.

Doing this on purpose for power is classified as a punishable exploit by the Oneroi. Yes, I asked out of curiosity when I was issuing myself about my Flame.

Just curious, would a banner house inherit their liege houses org alignment?
There is a mention of "certain privileges", is it only the honour exchange or something more that has not been detailed?

Would also like to know the answer to this.
Arel2011-05-05 01:37:39
For the honour gains from hunting and influencing, is there a time window those are recorded for?
For example, if I do a little bit of influencing every day, does it just build up over time until I hit the required amount to receive the honour? Or is your "score" from hunting/influencing cleared every weave?

Banner houses inherit the patron and org alignment of their predecessor, as well the liege house receives 1/4th the member weight of their subject house. I think, at least for the moment, that's all there is. (I know we were mulling over/considering having honour bonus for marrying someone into a more honourable family or your liege family, things of that nature, as well - it just escapes me if it made it into the final product (yet?) or not)
We discussed it and retroactive honour gain is simply unreasonable at this time - it becomes a 'give a mouse a cookie' scenario, in my opinion. Someone also pointed out the epic/family association and a lack of timeline assurance.
@Arel, yes, it perseveres.

Sweet. Also, I like the way that sounds.
I think something might be weird, but I'm not sure if it is a bug or I just don't understand the system very well. Can anyone here who is more experienced with the system let me know if I need to bug it? Shevat hasn't earned any honour from elected position family members (me as OH and Institute GM and Tulemrah as GA) since we got family status. Also, we haven't gotten any honour from the racial bonus except for that first big burst we got at the beginning. We also haven't experienced any honour loss, even though according to the Shevat log, there were no honour gains last weave. I'm confused.

I know my family never received honor for me as GA, nor currently with Kalegyne as GA.
Enyalida2011-05-05 03:06:28
That was a GH only perk, that might explain that. I think it still is.

Banner houses have no domain, so Lesser Houses will gain for elected positions if their liege house has an associated city.
OH gains aren't working, yet, but same deal you need a patron via liege house.
Not sure why racial wasn't working for Shevat.

So basically, we can't get the elected position benefits until we either become a great house or someone else in Hallifax gets greathouse and we pledge to them? Same story with the OH honour gain? It doesn't say anything like that in the help file. Maybe that could be updated then, to be a little bit clearer.
