I haven't seen the episode yet, but that was one of my favorite parts from the books.

The series has done the books pretty solid justice heretofore - I've really enjoyed it.

Got it all on my Tivo. I'm only up to the third episode, but so far I have to say it's been awesome.

Syrio Forel is the best part of the series. And the entire series is absolutely astounding.
There is only one god, and his name is Death. And there is only one thing we say to Death: "Not today."
EDIT: The only thing that I'm really missing from the TV series that was in the books was a look into the characters' thoughts, because it really helps to explain a lot of the decisions and motivations behind what they're doing. Given the medium, though, it's not really something plausible, so it doesn't detract from it at all. Just something I miss a bit.

I loved the Visaeris *clink*.
So true, I love him. It's not quite how I envisioned him from the reading, but he's fabulous, and I do like that they're including so many scenes with him and Arya.
I'm really enjoying the series. My objections are tiny things, like changes to memorable dialog...and for the sake of gods old and new put some clothes on Theon. Jeez.

I haven't read the books, and I dont intend to, but yes, I am enjoying the swordmaster guy. I assume he'll die in some horrific way pretty soon.

There is a distinct possibility that an event will occur that will either leave him entirely unharmed, partially injured, or dead. There is an equally distinct possibility that the event will not occur and that he will simply be glossed over in a dull manner.

Love the books and love the series! Viserys Targaryen's demise was one of the greatest death scenes ever!

If they gloss over that scene, I will be very sad. It is one of the best from A Game of Thrones.

The actor who plays Tyrion nailed it, IMO, he's the best part of the series.

I never really liked Visaeris. Then I got to Eventru's post and realized this thread was about something else entirely.

Loved the books, now I'm considering watching the series too.

Syrio Forel is one of my favourite characters in the series (quite possibly ahead of Jon Snow and just below Arya, but I'm not sure for certain!)
I'm very eager to see his character's resolution - particularly, I want to see if they clarify what the series only suggests (much like they did with Renly/Loras), or if they leave it vague.
If they leave it vague, then I'm going to continue assuming that Syrio is alive and is going to come back to Arya! Who will be an assassin of the Faceless God. Muahaha!
I also think Jon Snow's lineage is being more heavily thrown into question in the series than it was in the book - maybe it's just me? I acknowledge it's been half a decade since I read Feast of Crows, and longer still for the others!

Having just reread AGoT though ASoS (and currently reading Feast), I don't really think his parents are really discussed a lot more in the TV series as compared to the books. I think it might just seem like it's more because it takes up more of the time in the show compared to the books, but just as an artifact of how much time they have to show stuff.
The only part that seems particularly noteworthy is when Ned tells Jon that they'll discuss Jon's mother next time they see each other, as they're both leaving Winterfell, but that also takes the spot of mentions of Jon asking about his mother in the books at times in the past, his internal thoughts about it, and so forth. Not to mention, it also seems to serve another purpose: Mainly, IMO, to set up this expectation in the audience that they'll resolve that question later on, only to leave it as an explicitly open plot thread when Eddard dies (the devious bastards).
EDIT: Regarding Syrio, as much as I want to know what happens to him, I do hope they leave it vague. It's one of the more subtle but still relevant threads the books have left open, and if GRRM takes it somewhere interesting in Dance or Winds or Dream, having that definitive end in the TV series could put a damper on future seasons (assuming it lasts that long/GRRM gets the books out in time >.>).

He's totally dead, how could he not be since he was left with a broken wooden sword, little to no armour, and a very angry knight of the kingsguard.

Meryn Trant's objective was to capture Arya, not kill Forel. Given Syrio's obvious combative capability, it's not at all hard to imagine that he'd be able to stay alive for a long, long time, even if he didn't get a chance to kill Trant. Because Arya was getting away, he might have just decided to say "screw this" and left him alone to chase after her. Additionally, there are plenty of weapons on the ground from the 4(?) people Syrio had already killed that he could have grabbed. Not saying it's likely, but it is possible.

I've actually just started reading the book series this year. (Now I know why so many players asked if I was a fan of this series).
I won't get to watch the HBO series, since I don't have it (and I usually like books to stay books in my mind). But I'm enjoying the books--I needed something for my Brand new Kindle so I wanted to read a new series. I'm actually holding off reading the 4th book since the 5th book kind of takes place at the same time.
