I like the blizzard. sad.gif
I rarely have to deal with it, and I have the mudlet mapper if I need to walk through it.

Think every org has wind at the nexus, but windtalk and lipread defeat it.

No wind at the Flame. We're just better then that.
Razenth2011-06-07 04:39:27
No wind indoors. None at Megalith, for example.
Lilia2011-06-07 04:43:34
I've only experienced wind in the communes, never in a city.
Krackenor2011-06-07 10:29:28
Magnagora does have wind, but there are enough indoor areas that it would be pretty easy to not have it adversely affect you.

No! Im about to make my first character and want it to be easy to level up and make gold!

It's only recently that gold increase was upped, and it's today still better than say half a year ago. Mind you that credit prices scale with gold increase, so you're not exactly better or worse off really.

Since you are new, you have to take into account that influencing gives you esteem, which when you imbue it into needles you can sell. 6-7k a needle was the old pricing, unsure though what the new pricing is. And your city / commune may also have an esteem buying programme that pays more than the market does. Or allow you to donate it for a favour.

The fact that influencing with begging gave you stupidly high amounts of gold (same as killing the denizen, I think?) + you also got esteem to sell skewed it unfair towards bashing, even in the high level tiers where the general consensus is that bashing > influencing because the latter does not have critical hits to speed up the process as you level.

Influencing is still the eaiser option to level with today, only thing that you may want is a race with a higher charisma, and make sure you get all the buffs you can.

Just wanted to send a big <3 to all of you who have knowingly exploited and continue to exploit the weather bug on earth over the last 20 years. You really do this game proud.

Especially those of you who have bragged about your knowing exploitation... which is pretty much all of you who knowingly exploited it.

And I quote, "Issue me tongue.gif It's not like they're gonna do anything."

The person who sent that know who they are, and they have earned so much <3 from me I could just <3 them to death.

@Estarra: Major appreciation for finally top-shelfing fixing this. It's a godsend and the likely end of constant bug abuse for hit and run defilements, knowing that many defenders lack trans environment and are essentially helpless in the blizzard.

Weather is our oldest legacy code and the most user-unfriendly thing I've ever experienced. If memory serves, it was written by some grad student as a dissertation project and is way more complicated than we need or that anyone even notices. Did you know we have weather fronts and systems and all sorts of arcane factors? Didn't think so!

Anyway, unless we can figure out some type of temporary work around, I'll probably just delete the whole weather system this weekend and we may have to go weatherless for a time.

ohmy.gif Seriously? If it wasn't so nasty to work with, that could be quite cool!

I lack trans environment and can navigate around Earth fine.
Vadi2011-06-07 23:12:51
Yeah, tbh I found it quite neat. I'd prefer to see it fixed.

That really makes me want to have a look at that code...

Does this mean we can finally use lowmagic winter at places that are actually important. If so, do it.

You should make a more complicated one. And then add in REALLY weird weather like raining frogs.
Diamondais2011-06-08 00:12:00
Cats and dogs too? Fish if it's a violent storm over the seas? laugh.gif

Fire and brimstone. High heel hail.
Sylphas2011-06-08 00:15:25
That weather system seems really awesome, but also, as you said, a total pain in the ass to work with if you're not going to utilize it to the max, and I can't see a way to do that. I'd rather see it simpler but easier to do cool things with, so that if we want to give people weather skills (beyond Winter and Snoefaasia) we can.

I kind of thought the reason why the wind struck up around the nexii during the first Ice Devil event was a hint about fixing it. Or was that just a bug when you tried to change the weather?

While I'm sure the front system is fascinating, I can see it being a pain when you want to deliberately change the weather due to "magic". We need events where tornadoes and hurricanes and ice storms and other weather related events can happen. (Come back Gnafia!). Plus, I have to wonder how the fronts and stuff react when you create a new area in between other areas.

I too find your complex weather system intriguing. You should keep it.

Yes, but did you ever notice that any of these things existed before Est said something about them? As far as I know, I've never heard of anyone figured out that there was a weather front or anything like that, heading through the basin. The only thing people notice about the weather is when it is weird or when it is annoying (wind and snowstorms). I'd much prefer to see weather deleted for a bit and find out what much cooler and better weather system our admins can code to replace it.
Shiri2011-06-08 19:13:50
I did notice that weather kind of clustered so that a blizzard would seem to "move", but I'm not sure if that's even what happens or if I'm just making it up. So it's an excellent example of a system that sounds awesome until it's actually implemented, and then no one cares about it. I guess it's kind of comforting knowing it's there though!
