This is the first time in a very looooong time I've signed on and there were less than 5 people online in Glomdoring.

They were right. Choke was what made us win. This is the end.

edit: I am also a proponent of the sarcmark. In this sort of situation, it would come in handy.

10.2.5 HALLIFAX, THE BEACON OF HARMONY

Divine Patron: Zvoltz, the Architect
Divine Pantheon: Zvoltz

Ooer. Does anyone know why?

He evidently sacrificed himself to repower Hallifax after Kethuru tried to drain it.
The Soulless God Kethuru attempted to use the temporal fields around the
City of Hallifax to break free while the Nine Seals were in a weakened
state. Opening a rift over Hallifax, the Soulless God began to ooze
forth, draining the floating city's power and energy. The Elder God
Elostian quickly came to the aid of Hallifax, sacrificing himself to
recharge the generators within the city, enabling the city's defenses to
shut down the dimensional anomaly and close the rift.

And so, Kethuru's attempt was defeated but the cost was great. Elostian
was wholly consumed in the process, though rumours already abound that
whispers of his enormous intellect can be heard thrumming along the
power lines among the crystal generators of Hallifax.
Qistrel2012-02-18 21:35:36
A rift opens above the City of Hallifax, revealing a pulsating mass of raw flesh which vomits forth masses of tentacles that drop into the floating platforms of the city.

The sonorous, multi-toned voice of Elostian oscillates through the aether, "Kethuru is using the temporal fields of Hallifax to break free!"

The pulsating flesh within the rift bulges and tears apart, revealing an enormous ochre eye, slitted and glowing with a sulfurous luminescence. The air around the rift wavers and blurs, the edges widening as a psychic roar momentarily blinds you.

The sonorous, multi-toned voice of Elostian oscillates through the aether, "I will not allow this! Kethuru, you will not use this city of perfection to break free!"

The figure of Elostian descends from the clouds above, glowing with light and power. The Elder God hovers in front of the rift, causing the pupil of the eye within to contract.

With a shout of defiance, Elostian explodes in a coruscating fountain of energy, which forms into whirling funnel that is sucked into the generators of the Hallifax.

From the City of Hallifax, an enormous beam of power shoots up, enveloping the rift in a blinding knot of coruscating power. The psychic roar of Kethuru reverberates throughout reality, causing the entire world to momentarily shudder.

The blinding light suddenly disappears and the rift is gone.

Estarra's voice shatters the cosmic equilibrium, "Elostian has sacrificed Himself to save Hallifax and perhaps all of Lusternia. Let us remember this moment with reverence. The time of Ascension is at hand, so prepare yourselves, mortals. The Seals must be recharged soon."

Hallifax stopped loving him. Suicide by Kethuru.

I had a lot more fun with that than previous years (I won't lie, I'm thrilled 'my team' won), in large part due to the changes regarding shrines and the elevation stuff. The crazy running (trying to) around, shoring up at any node you could find, was really in the spirit of the event, at least as I've always understood it. Really entertaining, thanks.
Rika2012-02-19 00:55:19
Yeah, the lack of a lot of that abusive stuff makes it so much more fun than just sitting around while your passives own half of the other team.

Not sure if that's sarcasm or not - since passives definitely did a lot of damage throughout with all the lag. I'm just glad that the focus seemed strongly on what everyone brought out today, as opposed to how hard everyone prepared, ie, previous years' shrine wars, making the whole sphere just unbearable even aside from ridiculous amounts of insanity and mobs, or who puzzled out the cheapest tricks. It felt like more even footing. I think it's the longest I've seen it run, which speaks to that. I'm curious if it was mere possession, not standing at a node, how close Kelly would have come (or if she would have won outright), and there was a really stressful while there when Ixion overtook Xenthos's huge early lead. Definitely the most contended one of these I've seen. Again - super fun.

No, I was being serious. Having overwhelming shrine powers on top of insanity and more time to meld (because of said shrine powers) meant people could just sit in fortresses while a lot of the people who have little experience with large scale fighting events like that would just get killed by everything going around without even engaging the team holding the staff. Recent changes have made it a lot more dynamic, which should make it more fun (albeit a bit more stressful for some people).
Naia2012-02-19 01:09:22

It was definitely enjoyable, though to be honest it didn't feel like too an even footing. Most of that was modifiable ( in terms of player numbers, attitudes), but I still felt a little bit mechanically at a disadvantage skill-wise.

I do think Kelly deserved a lot of credit for this Ascension though, she was very fast to grab the Staff and keep it most of the tmie.
