Because pushing tackling people down holes doesn't involve the powerful soul changing magics that swearing yourself to a great spirit does.

Fixed.
But really, that is the reason. When you become a tracker IC, you've learned a skill, and have gained some special powers by bonding a lesser soul to yourself (the hunting bond). When you take a totems skillset, you've changed part of who you are by inviting a greater collective soul (Great Spirit) into yourself, and are granted special powers as a result.

Also probably because that spec race could then be from any org, which I think may be partially against the idea behind spec races.
Agnlaa2012-03-19 18:20:44
Dwarves spec as bards in any org, though.
Enyalida2012-03-19 18:32:53
That's because it's a trademaster spec based around the entire concept of dwarves as drunkards carousing their way around with a big giant lute belting drinking songs. >_>
In other words, it's a specific race spec-ing from a single specific thing, for a particular reason. What races would spec because of hunting, and why?

Shou:

How come hunting spec'ed warriors don't get any race specializations... it seems kinda unfair! :(

Specialization comes from a strong thematic link to a particular skillset. IE Aquamancy and Celestialism were founded by merians and, for a thousand years, were practiced solely by merians. Merians have, for a very long time, developed into the 'ideal' users for these skillsets. Is it genetics? Who knows! But their souls certainly seem the stronger for using them, and benefit greatly from knowing them.

Dwarves share a similar bond with Brewmeister - they're deeply, thematically linked with the skillset, having developed it. (Also, without the spec, dwarves would make terrible bards!)

There's no thematic nor mechanical reason for tracking to have a spec race - so I can't see any reason to add one. It'd feel a bit arbitrary and awkward, story-line wise. Though, that's just my opinion.

Thanks for taking the time to answer the question so thoroughly, everyone! My line of thinking was just that warriors of the same race who chose different specializations should have the same warrior-spec bonuses e.g. Storm Trill for both Rituals and Hunting users. To me the race-specific warrior benefits seem tied more to the primary skill than to the secondary, though the above reasonings make sense too. And I guess it'd be trickier to code? Well, it makes for interesting mind food anyway!

I dunno, Aslaran have a pretty strong racial attachment to hunting.
Enyalida2012-03-20 03:37:07
It'd totally be the "Loboshigaru Packmaster" or something, not Aslaran. All of the bonds are canines. Not that it really makes sense to spec at allllll.

Because Aslaran definitely need a racial buff or two.

Perhaps not a specific race did not "invent" tracking, but animals are by nature hunters and gatherers(trackers). Maybe give the animal races(Aslaran, Loboshigaru and Furikkin) some type of racial benefit or skills around tracking?

Sorry if I missed a race...you get the idea though.

Another reason. With the exception of Brewmeister dwarves, all of the skills required for spec races are org unique. A they are tied to orgscentral idea of spec races is that. The dwarves are an exception so that the can be effective bards, since that is a prerequisite to be a Brewmeister.

I think what's more likely to fly is certain races getting bonuses in certain Tracking skills, such as merians/other swimming races in DeepSeaHunter, and whatnot. Home terrain advantage, kinda.

Glomdoring seems very quiet recently. :|
Unknown2012-03-21 01:00:09
I've been really busy with things of late and don't really have the time to play, but even when I'm around, it does seem quieter on the whole. I don't know, it might just be the ebb and flow of things.
