I think Hazar was talking about editing before posting, or editing things like Clanhelps.

I do think having the ability to write a news post outside the game interface might be a good idea, especially as you can edit things a lot better outside the default Telnet interface, maybe save a draft or something like that, and you could keep in touch with the game if you can't log in for some reason--maybe a city leader writes a news post when he's away for two weeks and can't log into the game proper yet still needs to make a proclamation.

I finally decide to convince Lothypoo to have a child, find a child he should pop out, and what would you know, someone beat me to it.

I'M GONNA DIE THE CRAZY CAT LADY!

Yeah, exactly.

Editing a news post after it was put up is only a pipedream, where the admins submit to doing even more work by adding a queue for requested changes so that people get change/get rid of silly errors like posting to the wrong section or massive formatting problems without people changing history and hiding their words. Awesome, but not going to happen. But getting to edit help files, and prep posts before they go live, would be a lot easier with a host-side client that isn't the MUD itself and is designed for block text writing.

As long as his thirst for blood is sated, I won't get the whip.

Win+R -> notepad.exe

Alternatively

Ctrl+Alt+T -> vi or emacs or nano or gedit
Unknown2011-08-31 12:11:27
That's true, and I recommend using notepad anyway, but you still need to go into a newsroom, use your client to upload it (it can make mistakes), etc. They've also enabled news/help reading and message reading/writing outside the game.

I do think we'll see more web enabled features soon, as time and technology changes and the general speed of computers picks up. Heck, 5-10 years from now IRE games might run interfacing their rapture engine with Node.js and the default interface might be an Ajax web page or one of the more advanced protocols now used for the MUD clients.

I don't care how inactive Crek is. No.
Shulamit2011-09-01 00:35:38
It it, this scares me! Since you last logged in, there were 119 failed attempts to login to the
website or an associated service using your character name.

Meer!
Razenth2011-09-01 00:39:43
Might wanna change your password and contact support. Orrrrrr was that you forgetting your password?
Shulamit2011-09-01 00:40:14
I was out at dinner. It wasn't me.

Just changed it. *scared*
Unknown2011-09-01 00:42:57
Seeing Shulamit's note, I logged in after not logging in for almost 2 weeks and I have 7 failed attempts.

I issued it. I hope we're not being hit by a hack attack.

Er, if you log in and see "119 failed attempts," there's no reason to change your password (unless you're worried that it's weak and they might get it on the 120th-1000th try). If they successfully located it they'd have automatically cleared out that message and you'd never know.

That said, contacting Support is a great idea.
Daraius2011-09-01 00:50:16
Hey, if anyone sees a Daraius logged in, it's NOT me. I've still got no electricity. sad.gif

As if any hacker could emulate such a character!!
Xenthos2011-09-01 00:50:57
As a note, assuming this is widespread and you log in and do not receive such a message, it might be a good idea to change your password...

But who knows if it really is widespread. 119 attempts is very fishy, 6 is not so much.

Anyone else have it show up?
Unknown2011-09-01 00:51:43
It may be wise to change your password to something more secure either way. Better safe than sorry!

Hopefully you're already using a really secure password to begin with!

Right?
Mirami2011-09-01 00:57:29
Three of my four characters still around had them. 7, 29, and 7 attempts, respectively. None of them particularly well-known characters.
Ssaliss2011-09-01 00:58:16
I got 13 attempts. Hrm.
