I just read the latest events post.
I'm not logging into Aison for like a week now. YOU'VE BEEN GIVEN FAIR WARNING!

I felt like you were grossly over-reacting.
Then I went and read the events post. The last two sentences are great, if you are Celestian.

And just today I was thinking, WOW! We've had 25+ people online during peak prime, and 8-9 of them Celestine, we're doing so well!
Read the events post. Suddenly picture Estarra being all, what's that? Lots of Celestians logging in? WE NEED TO FIX THIS RIGHT NOW! NEW EVENT AGOGO!!
Oh geez... such horrible memories of world events...
Diamondais2011-09-30 12:28:04
Bet you it's cause Miciah found it first.
Sakr2011-09-30 12:31:35
wonder if doman or Revan found it first, what would have happened?
Aison2011-09-30 12:33:21
Gon' have to get the belt out for Miciah now...
Kiradawea2011-09-30 13:08:46
Celest would still have suffered. Remember the law of events!
Unknown2011-09-30 13:34:31
Think of all the badluck buildup in the other cities though! Eventually Magnagora is bound to explode! And Serenwilde will get fireblighted.

Pretty much. At first (like, back in 2007 when I started playing), I thought world events were pretty neat, but since then they've all been kinda demoralizing and not really fun for me to participate in. I haven't bothered to stick around for world events after the one that introduced Kephera/Illithoids because of the random ~8x affliction thing that only affected psionics. Well, that's not entirely true. I logged on to my non-psionic Blacktalon alt for the later parts of that particular event and then the Glomdoring got set on fire. Woo. And then there was that Hai'Gloh Zemordia fiasco that made me feel like I was slamming my head against a brick wall, so I quit before Magnalest did the counter-ritual.
I'll be playing Imperian until this is over.

She is grossly over-reacting. Celest likes to do that, though.
"OH NO. THERE'S A MIASMA IN MY CITY THAT DOESN'T DO ANYTHING YET UNLESS WE TOUCH IT. SCREW THIS. QQ."
Such silly pants you are!
I'm also going to put money down that statements like, "I'll be back when its over" will eventually be proven untrue, and they'll be back in a few hours or a day - two at most! All our events bring the players to the MUD, they're like, it's better than yours, damn right, it's better than yours, we could teach you, but you're too busy imitating us so we're glaring at you.

Remember, they only hurt us because they love us.

Uh, no.
Given the way events have worked in the past, I don't think it's at all unreasonable to expect the currently inert miasma will suddenly come alive and start killing everything and everyone who's going about their business. (Especially considering how the dreams have been going "SEEK AND DESTROY" and "WILL YOU TRY TO OPPOSE US?") Then we'll have to hide in our manses and guildhalls until someone figures out what to do, if we don't first get yelled at by either you or Terentia for being useless. (You might even do that anyway, given the IC nature of both.) It will continue in this manner until you all have had your jollies.
Also, the miasma has been doing some "ominous things" whenever Meleris does one of his random ambient messages, like so:
QUOTE
Meleris, Keeper of the Pool of Stars lays his hands on the Pool of Stars and is enveloped in a cosmic dance of swirling lights. He nods to himself after a moment and draws his hands back, the pinpoints of light fading away.
Harsh chanting echoes from every direction for a moment, dozens of angry red eyes peering from everywhere and roving this way and that before closing and disappearing.

"Angry red eyes." Oh yes, totally innocent. Go ahead and surprise us, but I'm not holding out much hope for this event either.
Ssaliss2011-09-30 15:07:34
Considering it spread through Celest, and not focused on Celest, it seems Celest isn't really the prime target this time.
Unknown2011-09-30 15:14:37
Entirely possible. At this point, I think it's stopped at the Balach but that would mean it's spreading east-southeast if it started in Oleanvir.
EDIT: Got my directions backward.
EDIT: Got my directions backward.
Ssaliss2011-09-30 15:17:05
Oleanvir is west of Celest. Balach is east of the Inner Sea. How does that mean it spreads west-southwest?

I wouldn't have qq'd but I have to work for 9 hours today and it was 2:30am when it was released and then I went to bed at like 4 since nothing was happening and I didn't want to be falling asleep at my cubicle. I LOVE all of these events, bad or good in the end.
And for those complaining about hiding and dying, do you have any idea how much experience/essence the rest of us have lost trying to kill these silly things? And I haven't complained, not once, because quite frankly events > having demigod. Demigod is just a mechanic within the game, I can get it back at any time if I lose it. Events are an awesome one-time chance.

People are allowed to not find events fun. Especially since usually, for most, they just get to suffer the random instadeaths/uncurable afflictions because events progress in steps. First the bad stuff happens, then Americans get to do some random stuff with one or two getting all the glory, then someone steals whatever was meant to be the reward for successfully winning the event. It's like clockwork.

Why are people complaining about epic-scale RP events
I tell you, every other IRE MUD complains about not having them, and they're the reason I'm here in Lusternia, for sure. Who gives a crap if you get afflicted or die in the course of an awesome storyline?

Most (that hate events that is) would say it is not awesome and that the outcome is not worth the events that happen. Here there is no way aside from hiding in a manse to not be part of the event (depending on what was happening)
I'm in the boat of people not liking world events. org level is the biggest I would even think of doing.
Ssaliss2011-09-30 16:26:51
Right now, what is happening is that the miasma is spreading. It doesn't hurt anyone that doesn't provoke it (yet), nor do I think it will, given that it's spread through Celest, and in particular their Nexus. It seems to me there's plenty of ways to not participate in it, aside from hiding in a manse.
Lendren2011-09-30 16:44:27
I've never been in an event that felt like it was a storyline per se. The closest I feel like I'm in a story is the way Jim Butcher's characters must feel about being in his stories, during the "what else could go terribly? Oh, that!" repeats; but at least his stories are building to something that's going to be satisfactory. Most of the time, if you're in an event, you get to be part of the early phases where you get to get screwed, but there's usually only room in the payoff for the five most obnoxious people who happen to be awake at the right time. Those people, of course, love events. Good on them.
