Sometimes, people need to remember that this is a game... That you play for fun.

I think there are only a handful of people who honestly and truly forget that.

In my experience, the bigger problems are that people often find very different and occasionally opposing things fun (ie: those who find combat ambushes and invasions fun and those who find any form of combat to be burdensome and would like to bash/influence/explore in peace), and that sometimes people try to operationalize fun and forget to take a step back and re-evaluate their assessment.

For instance, the former player in the above example may recognize that he finds winning at combat fun. He then does everything he can to win at combat: powerlevelling, buying artifacts, and arguing endlessly with his city over what needs to be done so he can win. Somewhere between the twentieth consecutive day of non-stop aetherhunting and the third time blowing up at a non-combatant over CT/CLT, he forgets that his goal was to have fun and not to win. In essence, the 'idea' of fun becomes more important than fun itself, and whatever was fun at one juncture in time becomes erroneously attributed categorically imperative 'fun' status.

You would not BELIEVE the noise that went on on the alliance aether, pretty much all of it negative, after the domoth. But then we had at least two trolls (you know who you are) spurring that on for a while.

That sucks. Like other Gloms have said before, the trick to morale/momentum is to consider victory in everything - even in losses, focus on the positive aspects.

Not a rave - lag so bad that commands from half a minute ago are still going through. I want to be doing something else now, come on...

Damn, tracking is expensive... My poor pile of gold. :(

Can ARTIFACT LIST be made prettier and more organized? It would be great if the artifacts would be grouped into DEFENSIVE/OFFENSIVE/TRADE/DINGBAT/ETC. when viewed using ARTIFACT LIST.
