Kialkarkea:

I live in fear hope that Gaudiguch will get drunken yodeling.

While I'm rather glad druids got a cool new thing (good!), I can't help but have this lingering feeling of disappointment, hiding back there behind the happiness.

The Aeromancers have always been about weather-- our guild hall has always been full of these weather machines we can't actually use, our skills are pretty much all about our control over the weather... But we've never actually had any control over it, save for windy demesne effects, because it wasn't possible. I'd made my peace with that.

But now, control is possible, and we don't get any of it. It feels like another instance of our identity being snatched away by a shiny new thing. I really don't want to be bitter, but it's looking tempting.

I feel for you on this one. Out of the goodness of my heart I will refrain from telling you that I just heard from Elostian and the Institute is getting a denizen who can control the weather in Hallifax and Avechna's Teeth. That would be cruel.

there will be blood

Why? He said he's NOT telling you that the Institute is getting a weather-controlling denizen. The Institute getting a weather-controlling denizen is not something that Ileein stated.

If I can't jokingly threaten to harm Ileein, then life just isn't worth living.

Weather isn't just air and cold, it's "the state of the atmosphere at a place and time as regards heat, cloudiness, dryness, sunshine, wind, rain, etc."

Aeromancers can only control a few of those facets, I wouldn't say their skills are all about the weather, just more...sky-related (thunder, hail, snow, etc).

Shaman can make it rain, make it hot, make it snow, and so forth though!

They can even cause earthquakes. I'm waiting for the druids to start adding in sandstorms and tide stuff ala deluge now to round it all out.
Ileein2012-01-03 23:32:49
Really, though, the basis of weather is pressure systems and their location (with bodies of water helping to influence humidity and precipitation and whatnot).

They better stay away from tide stuff or I'm gonna murderize someone.

I think Druids have been given priority because (1) they are in bad need of an upgrade and (2) communes, especially Serenwilde, need a little boost in some stuff. Hallifax seems to be doing well right now and I think the admin should favor some of the communities that don't have as much.

I have a feeling eventually mages might have access to a similar weather skill, maybe as a tetriary.

With the release of Shamanism, I have a pang of jealousy that they get more control over water than I do.

I feel like I've been cheated out of this now. I don't know. I love the themes of the Aquamancers though and how we focus on one but Shamans now seem so much better because they can work with all of them. :( I'll have to try out Shamanism first to see if my initial impression is correct, though.
Vadi2012-01-04 03:57:04
Can't believe Druids went from being backwater to jealousy targets within a day. Good stuff.
Diamondais2012-01-04 04:03:34
Craziness.
Unknown2012-01-04 04:05:50
Wtf, how are shaman better at water, sky, earth, etc manipulation? They can do whole bodies of the stuff, but they can't do fine precision, at least that's how it looks to me.

I haven't tried the skills yet. I'm going on heresy.
Ileein2012-01-04 05:12:38
True, but nobody becomes a Mage, Master of the Earth/Sky/Sea/Inferno for precision. They become Mages so they can blow things up. This, I believe, is the source of the jealousy. It's like how in Dragon Age nobody bothers with the fiddly little spells that cause little bits of spirit damage, they cast blizzards and fireballs. (I may be exaggerating.)

Or do people become a Mage for precision, and I'm just bloviating? Possible. I still put forth that blowing things up figures prominently in the average gamer's psyche.
Vadi2012-01-04 05:17:58
They don't even manipulate it. They entice it. While an Aquamancer can summon a whole deluge of water on demand. A shaman only entices - it's weaker.

Blah blah blah MAKE US WALK FAST AGAIN

Shamans, from what I can tell, have some pretty neat powers, but are bound by the restrictions of the climate they're in. I don't have a Shaman Druid so I can't say I know for sure, but it seems like they can only raise or lower temperature or affect weather systems dependent on the natural state of the area. Whereas, Aquamancers, yeah. Doesn't really matter if you're on the Plane of Fire or Earth or Astral, you can flood that and it's neat-o. Shaman's seem to have to use a not insignificant amount of power/time just changing temperature before they can get the cool weather-stuff going.
Razenth2012-01-04 05:34:27
Actually, they can't meld on elemental planes other than their own native environment as far as I remember. They also can't meld Faethorn with Maeve's protection.
