Back to Common Grounds.

Oh. Nevermind then! Ah well, still some pretty neat powers left to Mages only.

Blah blah blah MAKE US WALK FAST AGAIN

I approve of this!

Also, yes. I can only meld Water (for elemental planes). Which is fine. It's acceptable from a RP/mechanics aspect. So long as I can still meld Nil and blow things up, we cool.

At least the Hurricane is off the Highways! (Thank you Coders! ) That was really bugging me. :yourock:
Unknown2012-01-04 05:58:18
They fixed the slowness on highways?! :D

Shamans can't manipulate anything on Nil, Domoths, Elemental planes and other areas. They aren't magicians at all.
Unknown2012-01-04 06:14:17
So essentially, 'mancers are still mages of epic win. Shamans just get to play around with weather and mess things up.
Enyalida2012-01-04 06:52:07
Shamans can effect the elemental planes. Anything cosmic and up is too weird/crazy for the natural links to work out properly.

Phoebus:

While I'm rather glad druids got a cool new thing (good!), I can't help but have this lingering feeling of disappointment, hiding back there behind the happiness.

The Aeromancers have always been about weather-- our guild hall has always been full of these weather machines we can't actually use, our skills are pretty much all about our control over the weather... But we've never actually had any control over it, save for windy demesne effects, because it wasn't possible. I'd made my peace with that.

But now, control is possible, and we don't get any of it. It feels like another instance of our identity being snatched away by a shiny new thing. I really don't want to be bitter, but it's looking tempting.

Do keep in mind that lowmagic users have always been able to manipulate the weather slightly in lowmagic - winter and druids have always been able to use storms in their demesne. Their connection to the natural world allowing them to manipulate the weather already with shamanism being a skill that focuses on that ability and empowers it.

That aside mages are all very different, I personally am not sure how much a weather tert would work for mages given each seems more likely to push one or two of the aspects of the weather in a specific direction which would place the abilities in your primary spec, which has issues and benefits. (Personally I'm not sure I exactly like that mages possibly get the abilities in the primary when druids have it as a tert for example)

Maybe the admin can make the weather machine functional?

Someone graffiti'd it.

You just got HTML Tagged.

But I understand where Phoebus is coming from. Why do druids get to alter weather but not Aeromancers? Their thing is creating clouds and storms. Shooting the breeze. That was made to be their thing and the wind just got pulled from their sails. I can see Geos and Pyros not getting to control weather. Aquas maybe. But Aeros? Don't steal their thunder. :(
Unknown2012-01-04 17:18:42
No. Aeros should be able to control air and winds and stuff. Pyros, fire and magma even, Geos, anything to do with earth, and Aquas should have control over rain and water and partially weather related to water.

Meh.
Diamondais2012-01-04 17:42:45
This is making a mountain out of a mole hill, which Druids would happily leave to the Geomancers to make happen.

Druids can be considered "generalized" by the Mages who are "specialized". It's possible for Aeros to get more control over weather in their own specialization, and probably with more control over it than Druids will ever have with Shamanism.

You ignored my puns. :(
Diamondais2012-01-04 17:48:16
I only saw the don't steal the thunder bit, that was stolen long ago. :P

Edit: Although now I do see the rest.
Unknown2012-01-04 17:51:10
I had more, but if you pun for too long, you make the jokes go stale.
Turnus2012-01-04 17:59:37
Druids get one cool thing just for themselves and you all want to steal it from them, shame on you!

Nonsense. Any prolific punster must prolong their prolixity for the providence and provision of all! (Also, alliteration. Ass)

edit: eh, whatever.

Like I said before, I suspect something similar will be in the cards for the Mages, as Druids are akin to Mages with their Demenses and the like. I do think it's kinda early to be jealous of Druids when this has only been out for a few days and good things take time.

If--and I mean if--this is their plan--I suspect there will be a similar but different skill, perhaps with each mage having a theme based on element. I suspect Hallifax and Celest will have more sky/rain related powers with Gaudiguch/Magnagora focused on ground related stuff. I also expect it to be different just like lowmagic is different from highmagic, and deal more with elemental influence than natural stuff--maybe leading to more city vs. commune tension.
