The last thing mages need is another tert.
Unknown2012-01-04 19:54:30
I don't want another tertiary. I don't even want full blown control over the weather. I never asked for either of those and I don't think they are even remotely necessary.

I just want something. Something that makes me feel like all of our weather-control RP up to this point doesn't need to be tossed out! Feeling 100% helpless against the weather all of a sudden is, in-game, kind of embarrassing, after we've been told we're the weatherguys for so long.
Vadi2012-01-04 20:07:44
Well apparently the Giving Tree decided otherwise, to give the gift to Druids. That's how it happened, so if you'd like to expand on that - go pester it? Give it your proof that you should have the gift too.
Druken2012-01-04 20:13:34
You didn't lose control over the weather, though. You're still just like X-Men's Storm, complete with lightning zaps and hurricane blasts of sheer coolness. You're manipulating the skies, though, and not, for all intents and purposes, manipulating the broad majesty that is the weather.

In comparison, the shamans look puny against an Aeromancer's sky power, as they should - that's your realm of influence. And who says you can't still say that you control part of the weather? Part is better than nothing!

Edit: Also, I was always under the impression that the Aeromancers arrested control over the weather when it wasn't really their shtick to begin with. Which is fine! You still have the power you stole (think of all those machines, etc), but you can't really be annoyed that other people have learned to manipulate it naturally. That's just evolution!
Vadi2012-01-04 20:16:59
Indeed. You get lightning to hit people without any effort really, while a Shaman has to coerce a whole storm into happening first :(

Hey, Blacktalon can hit people with lightning. It's just really weak lightning.

omg, I can't believe that Halli/Gaudi bards get to use MUSIC, of all things. Criminey, can we make sure that SS,HB,Caco and Cant's get something so their music playing rp hasn't been all for nothing these past few years?
Rivius2012-01-04 20:24:25
Ugh. You control a specific elemental magic, not nature. Nature is obviously in control of nature users and weather is a part of nature. Your elemental magics are naturally going to only control a specific subset of that like how geos control the earth, aquamancers control the waters and pyromancers control the flames. But you don't control the weather! You have some control over the winds and the clouds and electricity that's about it. Shamans obviously have a general control of all these little aspects, but they haven't mastered each specific element to the extent that the respective mages have, as Vadi already stated.

Shamans are the real weather guys, sorry. That's what you get for living in a city and losing tune with nature. /forumrp

All mages can have some effect on the weather, as far as they can mentally control a region - ie, their demesne.

Aeromancers have always been able to stir up blizzards, Aquamancers summon a veritable deluge of a thunderstorm, and numerous other things.

They simply can't control the weather outside of their meld - even druids can't do that without communing with the spirits of nature (ie, Nature).

Mages may be able to do it with big machines that are rife with vibrations and power, but you're not going to be able to carry those around with you.

Sorry kiddos.

What about the Music users?

I'm tone deaf and so impervious to their skills.
Eventru2012-01-04 20:34:40
And please don't feel like anyone is deaf to the calls of 'BUT MAAAGES' - it's something that was discussed at some length, with several of us bringing it up (thinking of the Aeromancers specifically). Ultimately it was decided to go the route we did, though - because the level of control exhibited in Shamanism was just too broad for any one mage to do on their own. Like I said, even shamans have help (from nature).

So while mages can effect changes, they're limited to their range of thought/control (ie their demesne), and can be pretty wild in terms of conflicts (with warm summer breezes going on during a blizzard).

Shouldn't my having a raging inferno in an area cause the temperature to increase, and cause Pyrocumulus clouds to form?

The Aeromancers have one of those, and it apparently does nothing.
Diamondais2012-01-04 20:47:21
Talk to your Patron. Maybe you can get it to do something for Hallifax.

Now that a weather system's in, you can bug your patron about a quest that gets it to work with some sort of city effects?

I am considering bugging mine...

Sigh, I say I'm a little bothered about something, and people act like I'm reacting way more than I actually am. Calm down, forum dudes! Shhhh...
Talan2012-01-04 21:10:24
No way, there is drama to be had here and we are going to drag it out, by force if necessary!
Unknown2012-01-04 21:12:29
I have a friendly suggestion: take it to the Shamanism thread!
