Yeah, it started a bit late.
Kagato2012-01-22 07:45:43
It started around 10 to 15 minutes late.

All in all, don't take this the wrong way but this event was way flawed to not have just been restarted. Divine know this (at least the upper divine do) and probably think the same. But what is done is done. I am not trying to say boohoo Xenthos won. Xenthos is a friend of mine and I am happy he won. Ildaudid probably isn't happy a Glom won, but hey... Ildaudid can go screw himself.
But, first off you have the broken statue thing that some people got as the first clue. The next problem was the whole kill the denzien to get to clue room. But the real kicker was the thing that if you didn't know how to say that line properly you were doomed from the start. I mean this wasn't a random hamsterhunt with some credit prizes, this is the big deal, this is Lusternia's annual Ascension event.
Did everyone notice the turnout? Over 117 people, even more... for hours? Lusty hasn't been that populated in a long time. And that is great for Lusternia. That kind of a turnout means we got juice still. I am sure Estarra was sitting there thinking that it was a great turnout as well. And with a turnout like that you would think the lesser divine who were put in charge of the event would get it right. "To err is human", but the way some of them act, they give the impression they are beyond human, so maybe they shouldn't use that quote as a fallback.
Kalodan, one of the best lore players there was, and a damned good scavenger hunter. As a mortal he could find his way around quite well. Now as a god, he has forgotten some simple things like you need to go through a NPC to get to a place in the scavenger hunt? C'mon friend, it was a mistake but one that shouldn't have been made and brushed off as oh no biggie. Take no offense, I am not blaming you, I am sure it is super hectic up there right about now.
The point is even one mistake, something as important as telling the participants the wrong thing to say when you think you are in the right room for the wreath to work. That alone was enough to stop, step back and say "Hey, lets immediately let these people know EXACTLY what to say in a mass mind message or new HINT." But stacking that on top of a broken clue room, and not fixing the clue room until at least 1/3 if not halfway through the contest, now that is when you need to say "Wait, I made a mistake. My boss might be mad at me for the mistakes, but I better restart this Seal quest." .... What was not needed was "Ahh, well no biggie. Xenthos would have won anyway."
That just looks bad on the divine running that event's part. And yes we had the boohooer's as we would have had if Amaru would have won, if Ixion would have won, if Haiden would have won, etc. But boohooer's aside, it was a simple mistake that could have been easily rectified by restarting it with the proper information and working event quest.
Ildaudid was the first to congratulate Xenthos for winning. Since he and I know a win is a win. And I know Xenthos was flawed with the same problems as others. I would like to think though, that Xenthos also would agree that with that many mistakes in the Seal Event, that it should have been redone or reset after it was fixed. And I can bet the outcome on the winner would have a lets say 99.999% chance of being Xenthos again, he is good at this event. And I don't want him thinking I am trying to take that away from him. I am saddened on how it was so easily brushed off and just thrown in the "oh well no biggie, live and learn" folder. I hope that folder is constantly read and reread by divine running these type of things though, because if the same thing happens again next year with a new area and they say "live and learn" again.... well obviously they wouldnt have been learning.
I again want to let you know, this isn't a whinge. I am glad for Xenthos, truely. It is simply a statement on what could have been done different to curb the "illusion" some people get that there are conspiracies against certain players, certain orgs, certain guilds, etc.
If you want a whine, my whine is that I didn't even know how to say the proper phrase the whole darn event. I saw peoples wreath's waver when they said things in the wrong room, my wreath never did anything unless I shook it. I asked Avechna (sp) if I had some kind of broken wreath and if the wreaths were supposed to do something even if you were in the wrong room, since I saw people getting "responses" from their wreaths, yet mine was impotent, heh. And I got not response.... I just see a shout saying wreaths are fixed. --------------- That would be my whine. (No conspiracy, no boohoo Glom won a seal, just a simple damn wreath wouldnt work... no biggie it happened.)
I did have a question though about this. The whole turnout being back to the old days of Lusternia (when we had 120 people on at any given "prime" time), what was up with that lagging? Are we piggybacking MKO again or something? I know we removed things like vials and carddecks and tons of other things to lessen the clutter so we could clean house and help streamline the game against "lag". But what is causing that laggyness? And I checked my end, others were getting it too. We used to be able to handle 120 people online in big battles and such, so why are we limping through it now?
Is there anything we can do to help remedy this? Like if we are supporting MKO, maybe have them leech bandwith off Aetolia or another IRE realm during our Ascension Events?
My deepest congratulations on all the winners of this event though. I am serious. Congratulations to you all.

Mmmmm. Ascension.
Hey, who gives good TFs for offerings lately?

Mysrai is about the best from what I hear.

A stray hailstone smashes harmlessly against your shield, breaking into a
thousand tiny shards.
Love all the little things.

Those hailstones are cute for the first few minutes. But nothing lasts only a few minutes.
Someone go start an Ascension 2012 Rants thread so all this noise can be moved there. 12-paragraph screeds on a thread named Tweets?

We can drop the the topic of Nature - as far as we are concerned, lessons were learned, and there's nothing to be done about it. Thus, the discussion is at its end.
Qistrel2012-01-22 16:41:28
Pssh, Hailstones do less than 50 damage each.
Or...wait...I have staghide, so maybe its worse for other people?

My congrats to the winners...and hailstones tickle heh
Lendren2012-01-22 17:29:44
Oh, the damage is trivial, it's less than a regen tick. If it didn't do any damage, it would still get tedious after the first few hundred repetitions, though.
Iosai2012-01-22 17:32:57
If that were true, then how is it any more tedious than the messages about the sun rising or setting, or the ambience messages in your manse? I feel like I must be missing something - please feel free to explain.
Turnus2012-01-22 17:56:37
Not that hard to to gag a message... unless I'm missing something else annoying about it. Losing shield while afk influencing? That should only potentially be an issue off-prime (and shouldn't be done anyways!). Are there even hailstorms on etherwilde?
Unknown2012-01-22 18:03:05
There are hailstorms in EtherGlom, and we're supposed to be the summer forest, heh.

Once per ten seconds versus once per hour.

Lusternia down or is it my connection? If it's my connection then my poor essence, Ice Devils or Diggers are going to nom me.
Razenth2012-01-22 20:12:30
Zenos won. The world ended.
Ssaliss2012-01-22 20:13:40
Still up for me. And no deathsense from you either. Although others died all of a sudden...
Chade2012-01-22 20:13:54
Maybe Ice Devils won't nom me then :D
PS: I have a bit of a soft spot for Zenos, but I really really want to see Crazen next year with a cool link in quest that joins Valek temple with a properly released Castle Djarrakh and a nice high level bashing/questing area between them.

I wonder who wrote our TVtropes page and who is keeping it up to date.
