Lag

Some of you have complained about lag. We have investigated and are positive that it's not a code issue but there may be a server issue. We brought our concerns to IRE and there have been some adjustments (yesterday). Have you noticed that lag has lessened?

Hopefully, we can also convince IRE to increase our RAM which may also help but that'll be a future hurdle!
Ssaliss2011-09-28 18:46:10
Hmm. Attacked something, bled, bled, got balance back. Something's still wonky.
Ssaliss2011-09-28 18:54:02
Oh, and it can be added that you bleed every 5.5-6s, and my balance time is about 4s. Thus, bleeding twice while regaining balance should be impossible.
Unknown2011-09-28 19:06:28
What, are you sure it wasn't all just our ISP's.
Ssaliss2011-09-28 19:08:34
Oh, be nice, you tongue.gif That was Eventru who said that, I believe...
Unknown2011-09-28 19:18:45
I say it out of love!

That's standard lag.

Server issues are when you hang for a while (let's say the world hangs for 8s), and you still only bleed once / the mob only attacks once in that time.

That's the lag we're all complaining about, the constant stuff that hasn't actually been killing people because it slows down NPCs too.

Not necessarily. Bleeding could be on a different type of tick to balance and mob attacks. For example, in Achaea, there was a bug years ago where gremlins (a balance-stealing ent) were firing much too fast and being too hindering. The admins investigated after numerous player complaints and found nothing wrong with the scheduling code, and chalked it down to being a myth, until eventually it was discovered that gremlins were using their own special timer, separate from everything else and causing the observed effects. Also, consider my post here, with both the spidion and the chained forms definitely lagging, but somehow my momentum drops before I regain balance.
Ssaliss2011-09-28 22:51:15
Yeah... No matter how you look at it, if bleeding fires every 5.5s-6s, and you regain balance in 4s, it should be impossible to bleed twice between hitting and regaining balance. I noticed a lag hit during that time as well.

Bah for some reason I read it as "that's what he said.". Bah....made an idiot out of myself.

Modified my client to send Core.Ping every second instead of every ten seconds. Should hopefully show some interesting things.
Ssaliss2011-09-29 19:44:50
Okay, right now I'm getting hit massively.

How are you getting a response on the ping? According to the docs, the server is not supposed to send anything back:
