Subj: Reworking of Damage Types and Bodyscan!
As promised some time ago, mobs can now have resistances or weaknesses
to damage types. You can determine their damage types upon probing them.
Only a few mobs have resistances or weaknesses now but expect to see
more as time goes on.
Further, some guilds will receive updates to their skills to allow a
larger choice of damage types. So far, we have added the following:
-Druidiry receives Lightninbugs (Hartstone only) or wasps (Blacktalon
only)
-Mages receive a new skill called Tuning
-Moon Drawdown will allow a new spell, Moonfire
-Nightkiss Aura will allow a new spell, Nightgaze
-Transmology flay will do psychic damage against corporeal targets
(works the same as before against non-corporeal).
We've also added two new damage types! The excorable damage is the
energy of the void, sometimes associated with the soulless. The divinus
damage type is the energy of the divine, sometimes associated with the
Elder Gods. Divinus does extra damage against the undead and those
bonded with darkspirits. Excorable does slightly more damage against
everyone EXCEPT the undead and those bonded with darkspirits.
-Celestine Symbols now do divinus damage
-Nihilist Symbols now do excorable damage
-Radiance has been changed as electrical/divinus damage attack.
-Demonweb spell added to Nihilism.
-Harmonic void blasters will do excorable damage and harmonic scalpels
will do divinus damage.
-Transmology Butterfly has a chance of doing an extraordinarily powerful
attack of both excorable and divinus damage.
And, finally, we have a new skill in Discernment called BODYSCAN. This
will help you to keep track of your DMP and Buffs.
Enjoy!

Already a few bugs like the new attacks not working on mobs and the attune defense literally disappearing when you check bodyscan resistances where the attune doesn't take effect, but this is pretty cool.

Too bad BODYSCAN BUFFS doesn't work. I'm guessing that'll be fixed soon'ish though. Also, I personally think it's hard to read the BODYSCAN RESISTANCES FULL, but I'm not sure if I'm alone in that, or how to fix it.

Very awesome, thank you so much Admin! This didn't take near as long as I was expecting it to. It's shed some light on things I wasn't sure about, too. I didn't know resilience translated into DMP, for instance. I thought that was a separate calculation. Very cool stuff.
Daraius2011-07-17 01:25:38
Sounds cool. What's tuning?
Vadi2011-07-17 01:26:14
Excellent update, love it.
Jack2011-07-17 01:32:03
Nice to finally have a way to cohesively take stock of your DMP. What's the deal with these new attacks, though? Are they just to showcase the new damage types?
EDIT: Oh, so you can actually kill crap of different resist types, I get it.

Sounds cool. What's tuning?
Allows the mage to choose what percentage of their damage is which type for their staff.
CODE
Syntax: TUNE STAFF ELECTRICITY COLD
        TUNE STAFF CLEAR
Power: 1 (Matrix)
As your connection to the elemental air grows, so does your ability to
control the staff you have fashioned from it. You may TUNE STAFF to
choose what percentage of your damage is in the form of electricity or
cold damage. You may also TUNE STAFF CLEAR to return your staff to its
original balance.
NOTE: Percentages may range from 0-100 for each damage type, but must be
multiples of 10 and sum to 100.

As we go, we're filling in mobs to have their own weaknesses and resistances.
And so, as part of that, we want to ensure everyone has options when bashing.
We're still making changes and still adjusting, so while everyone won't be able to bash everything (ie knights/monks might have issues with kephera and steel goats, they'll cut easily through fleshy things and the like), everyone should be able to find something.

Will there be a way to detect the weaknesses/strengths of mobs, or will it be purely trial and error?
Ileein2011-07-17 01:39:32
Does the excorable damage boost apply to non-undead/darkspirit denizens, too? / Does the divinus damage boost apply to undead/darkspirit denizens?
Eventru2011-07-17 01:42:18
Mobs with damage resists/weaknesses will show when you PROBE them.
For example, PROBE your nexus keeper. You should see something (unless you're Serenwilde) to indicate their weaknesses.

Ah, sweet! Thanks for that!
Lendren2011-07-17 01:51:28
I've done the wiki updates for the new skills and changes to existing ones. If anyone sees one that got changed but I didn't update, please let me know.
Raeri2011-07-17 02:02:01
Pretty cool. Some issues with the targets within messages aside, the flavour messages are pretty . Finally have DMP figures for Astrology spheres, resilience, etc!
Hope the other guilds get some way of shifting damage type too (*looks at bards and pure magic damage*)

Am I just unable to do bodyscan, I keep trying the commands, but it just ends up telling me the Syntax.
Unknown2011-07-17 02:05:13
While we're at it, mages definitely didn't need tuning.
I feel like either all new attacks should be static or they should all be as customizable as tuning.
Also the wiki power costs for tuning all ask for Pool power.

You can BODYSCAN RESISTANCES. You can also add a damage type or FULL to the end of it.
EDIT: Ah... Try all lowercase. I got told the syntax if I used uppercase.

There were a few other copy-and-paste mistakes like that, but I think I got them all.

Why? This is catching up to warriors. You had a way to change your damage type all along. (for hundreds of credits)
