How the heck do you kill the hermit crabs at the bottom of the inner sea? They seem to just ignore my hits no matter how much damage I do. They just block it with their shell. I assume there's a trick to it. Anyone know?

You need to flip the enemy crab and attack it's weak point for massive damage.

You have to own the manse for it to happen, so the only way is if someone transfers the manse to you, you place it and then transfer it back.
This makes it something that is Not Advised, because the person in question could conceivably just keep the manse.
