Short Questions: Three

Yeah, hopefully. There seems to be a dynamic about it which causes a loss of wonder. Raiding has been nerfed a bit so combatants are less active (or so it seems, it was the reason I left for so long.) I mean, arena games are fun and all but theyre not the same as live combat. For the last mOnth, I've been doing a normal NWHO to see of there is any novice activity but there just hasnt been any. I think it's harder for novices to make it these days and harder for them to find lusternia.

It just seems to me that lusternia's missing some sort of spice to attract new members. Maybe a credit incentive to vote on TMS like there was with the Facebook inviting or something interesting that novices/new players can be involved with other than ascension.

Edit: to agree with Rivius it does seem like the same thing over again. Same alliances, same bashing areas, same people influencing guards, same greifers.. Etc. point being, there's gotta be something new to spice it all up.

You could start up hai'Gloh again.
Alik2011-12-31 03:16:53
Not sure what that is...
Saran2011-12-31 03:18:54
Rivius:

Eh, to be honest, I've heard some people have just found it all to be pretty stale. I think it's just time something big and interesting happens. We're near ascension time, so maybe activity will start to pick up soon.

Personally, I'm kinda "meh" about ascension. Feels like it's going to just be the same thing again.

I'd rather see some sprucing up of what already exists than something completely new. I'd really like to see an iterative approach to some of the aspects of this game, there are places where this game doesn't always achieve flow or balance (not referring to combat here) so having a news post or an email with a big shiny "UPDATE" in the title would pull my attention more than some new word.

I've been in and out of the game heaven knows how many times - hence why I've had 14 characters (and counting).

Now, to the real point of my post.

I've already bugged this, but is there a brewmeister out there who has nonartied kegs and has noticed that 100 whitetea =! 100 vial refills? (less tea needed). I do have a spatula which this supposedly shouldn't effect and portions as well which this also shouldn't effect. Just curious, as it'll be useful to know if anyone else has noticed the same.

You make 60 sips per time. A standard 'refill' is counted as 50 sips, though a standard vial has capacity for 60 if you pour it in.

Well... There's a bigger issue than people just moving in and out. I've played through my fair share of novice chars too just to see what it's like in other guilds and the reason for it is clear, for some reason, after people stop leveling, it becomes stale and many get bored. Think about why you've created so many chars.

I think it's time to make a thread about it.

As far as I know, TMS has rules against offering rewards in exchange for votes.

Also, Skyrim. Blame Skyrim.

I stopped leveling years ago. :(

Maybe some incentive for voting for something in general. Who knows. Anything to bring traffic to Lusternia.

I know there are other factors but it's really been on the decline for a year now. Skyrim hasn't been out for a year.

As for Xenthos, so did Ilyarin and Kolm but they're not around. I know that you've seen it through the hard stuff but in general, novices don't stick like they used to and neither do demigods.

Who know, maybe I'm crazy but I'm objective 3rd party stating my observations. I'd like to be crazy because I'm going to buy credits soon but I'm not sure it's worth it if we've lost an about 60 steady players in the spam of a year.

So basically what you're saying is you'd like to see more people, but you don't think you want to stick around because there aren't as many people as you'd like to see here already? If you want people to be around, just play even when things aren't the best, and give other people a reason to stay too. That's how I feel, at least. If no one ever plays because no one is ever playing, that's a problem that'll never be solved.

And...people stop playing games, sometimes. They grow bored of it or their interests change or they just can't keep playing anymore. That's just how things go! Also, the big drop in ranking on TMS lines up pretty well with getting rid of the most visible vote links that used to be floating around: the one on the main site, and the one on the forums-- both gone. IRE decided they didn't care about TMS as much anymore, iirc.

Nah. I was just saying i was wary of spending much more money. But the question is no longer why - it's what to do now. The reason everyone is addicted to games like League of Legends and World of Warcraft is because there's something new to keep interest in. I know Lusty is considerably different but the concept is still the same. Business wise - IRE wants business, player wise, a larger player base is more fun. There's a really low novice turnover rate. What are the things to keep the younguns around?
Enyalida2011-12-31 06:36:29
Totally not a short answer or a short question but:

tl;dr: It's as you said, sometimes it feels as if progress is capped and that participation beyond a certain point is so limited you won't get a chance at it. Not talking dollars and cents here, there are plenty of ways to get free credits around that it's not that huge of an issue.

Perhaps some way to connect all the bashing/questing/sitting around to power level? I understand how the game is structured and how that relates to the buisness aspects of the company, and I just love a whole lot about what that lets the game do, but at a certain point, hunting becomes nothing more then accruing mor and more gold that you can't do anything with and essence you don't necessarily give a hoot about (as most of the abilities either feel shockingly overpriced or useless). Even before demigodhood, after the free credits dry up, there isn't much reason to level up except to just level up. Being higher level makes you survive a bit more, but in group combat (Read: All of it that matters) skills are far more important then leveling. This leads to a whole lot of standing around vacantly. I can go out bash, but for what? So that I can add to my stash of gold for when that becomes useful? Sure, that'll work as a reason, but not for long. If you feel like you're measurably getting stronger or going somewhere, if you have a purpose to participate in, you'll be more likely to stick around. If it seems like you're doing all this stuff for no reason then to do it, you won't.

Does anyone have the room description for all of the dingbat mine gems? I was only able to find a few here.

Please feel free to expand upon this in a PM or in-game message! If it can be done, and it's going to benefit Lusternia, I'll be very interested in hearing what you have to say. :)

And that goes to everyone, not just Saran! :)

I'm new and I quit a top US WoW raiding guild to play this. The incentive to stay is there. It's just hard to market a text-based game to people who have never played one. I specifically sought out IRE games because my net capped at the end of November and I wanted something "free" to do on dial-up while I couldn't raid for 3-4 days. The only reason I knew about these though, was from trying them years ago.

People are either going to like this game or not. It's just a question of how to get people here - and how to make the initial transition to text gaming as immersive as possible. Imperian is incredibly newbie friendly and eases you into things step by step. I'm so glad I started there before coming here because I would have been too overwhelmed.

I wouldn't be surprised if a number of people were like me and just got so busy with real life things that they didn't have the energy to come online and play.
Neos2011-12-31 17:06:31
My laptop is still broken, or I'd be playing way more often. :(

I suspect that's it, but I was just curious why it suddenly affected so many people. I'm not too worried, but there is a sense of quietness--maybe it's a few coincidental things coming together. Maybe a buncha heavy players graduated college at the same time, combining with a crackdown on reporting cloaked users (fixed bugs) and conversations moving to facebook.

Why are your posts always in a dark font, it's impossible to read on the Night skin!
