The thinly veiled bitterness in your previous post just gave me a bit of déjà vu, but I suppose it doesn't matter at this point, so never mind. Now are you going to elaborate on your former statement of Lusternian astrophysics making eclipses impossible or just leave it as "Lusternia screwed up with astronomical consistency so they could happen outside of the mythos without following any form of logic anyway?"
I think if people here could really see what I think, they'd be astonished at how few people are even slightly close. There are so many people I apparently am, and so many of them are completely contradictory with others. There's several reasons for that, but one of the biggest is that, if you are someone who cares about anything, to the vast majority of disaffected, detached people, the mere existence of that intensity always gets transformed into whatever they would be feeling if they cared, or whatever happened to be the tone the first time they saw caring happening. You could probably do a pretty good taxonomical catalog of people's attitudes just by asking them what they think my attitude is, and recording the various answers. But hey, man, feel free to recast this post as being bitterness too, if bitterness is what you're convinced you see in me. If I had a problem with being the avatar of whatever you think is wrong with people, I would never have gotten to this point. I've got other places where people have some idea who I am, I don't need it to be Lusternia.
Solar and lunar eclipses happen when the sun and the moon are at the same point in the sky. This can only happen if the moon doesn't always rise at sunset, and set at sunrise. In fact, it can only happen if the time of moonrise changes every day. That's also what causes the phase of the moon in the real world, but that's a whole different kind of "it's magic!" answer.
Incidentally, it takes a little more than just the moon and sun being at the same point, or else eclipses would happen twice a month. There's also some eccentricities in the moon's orbit that means most of the time when it's between Earth and the Sun, it's a little too "high" or "low" (above or below the plane of the ecliptic). Ditto for when the Earth is between the moon and the sun.

Can we change this topic title to super long questions and debate about the lusternian solar system?

No, but we can tag the thread to include those. And Rhomboid Cubeforms, because who doesn't like pushing boxes out of shape?

I apologize for my slight annoyance at having my initial question answered with an unexplained "no" and a statement that seemed to allude to something that revealed Lusternia's technical lore as having consistency problems without any further justification of said statement. The comment I made referencing a discussion about the seasons was just based on a passing impression, and not meant to be a claim of understanding your psyche, so I'm sorry if you took it otherwise.
But thank you for your elaboration on the impossibility of eclipses in Lusternia as we understand them. You pointed out the obvious reasons for such, which I missed, and finally gave me an answer I'm satisfied with.
And considering the past few posts on the subject, since it seems unlikely that the moon and sun will suddenly stray from their habitual courses to jump in front of or behind another celestial body (which we see are consistent due to their predictability), I'm happy with believing that eclipses cannot happen in Lusternia, at least by scientifically logical causes.

Didn't an eclipse happen during the Syzygy? All of the celestial bodies aligned, which include the sun and moon. Does anyone have a log it?
Astrology AB for Sun says that it is "the center of the astrological system". That means that there is no reason eclipses couldn't happen.]

Eclipses require more than a heliocentric system, that's just one of the steps you need. I think I can confidently say no one can prove canonically if there's a geocentric or heliocentric model of the solar system, apart from if you trust AB files. Epicycles can explain retrograde motion, as noted above, though depending on the specific numbers, you might require many layers of nested epicycles. Furthermore, the pre-Copernican model that uses epicycles was further limited by an adherence to circles; you can use much simpler epicycle scenarios if you're willing to throw in ellipses. But either way can be made to work. The trouble is that it's not enough; you need to also have the particular alignments to create eclipses, and having sun and moon always opposed in the sky makes that impossible.
But the syzygy highlights the innate contradiction between the way Astrology refers to the location of the sun and moon, and what you can see when you're standing around outside and you see them rising and falling (and what corresponds to that in terms of things like whether you can bond spirits). An astrolabe can show you positions for sun and moon which flatly contradict what you can see from time-passing ambients. This might just be a reflection of the question about what relationship there is between the spirits and the bodies, but there's no canon answer to this that I know of, and I suspect it'd be best if there never was; this is an ambiguity that probably is more fertile unanswered than answered. That said, there might be a great answer just lurking somewhere in Estarra's mind we just haven't heard yet.

Does Lusternia have a version of Achaea's humgii? There has to be some sort of trash-collecting service/mob, etc.

There are looting mobs down in the UV tunnels. But other than that, we call him Tully.

Isn't that traditionally the Nexii?

You can put things in your own nexus to destory them.

I'm having some issues connecting. I get "Server is unavailable" errors with Nexus and Mudlet just tries to connect to the IP but never does. Any idea what's up?
Edit: It seems as if I'm firewalled out of port 23, so if anyone knows of an easy work-around, I'd appreciate it!

By the way, the reply to my e-mail about upgrading collared beasts said you can "rewrite it as anything you want with any noun you want."

Ok, so the schedule on the website says Beauty entries end the 31st, will they cut off entries then or the 1st? Will it be midnight? And if so, who's midnight? What timezone are we going by? I'm just worried because I've had to resubmit for a minor typo and don't want it bouncing around again in the system and not make it in. Since I've had designs be bounced around in the past. ~fret
Edit: It went through, yay! But I'm still curious about the time and such for future reference. Sorry about the freakout, it's my first Beauty trial as a participant

From the Charites:
Beauty is drawing closer! We're hacking through that queue as fast as we can, and are waiting to accept your designs! Note that the deadline is strictly the 31st - once GMT reads February 1st, we will NOT accept submissions, no matter the circumstances!

How would anyone know that fae were being fed to Gorgulu unless they were seen? Does it show up in any org logs, or powerlogs?
Eritheyl2012-01-30 08:02:15
It doesn't, nope.
Turnus2012-01-30 08:08:27
Though nobody in lusternia keeps secrets, even if somebody from your own org finds out.
