Anyone manage to get the july event to work? I've touched pretty much every shard that was spawned in the razines and every time I got "A jagged crystalline shard is numb and unresponsive to your touch"

You can only touch the first one you picked up to get results from the quest event. Others will give you that message you duplicated; the one you want will either be still or start glowing various colors depending on how close you are.

Yes and yes. I have a crow that I made into a pet that has both upgrades for the Blacktalon and the Pyromancers, so if I ever rejoin those guilds, the crow would gain the special inherents back.

What Viynain said, but note that there is an extra 75cr cost for a custom beast to be able to use guild skills.

Other people are finding their spots with the shards at least, right?

It's never taken me over half an hour to find a spot before. But maybe that's just bad luck.

EDIT: Oh, now I see what the problem was. This hot/cold doesn't have a special message for the same local area, but only for how many rooms away you are. Bleh.

The news post had led me to believe it would be in the mountains, but I found my first in Caoimhe. I was able to find it though.

When I picked up mine, it gave me a vision of touching the crystal "at a place where I could get a fallen piece of machinery." This made me feel like it was a scavenger hunt, so I went to Balach because there's some machine pieces to be found there always. Turns out it had nothing to do with that - I followed the hot/cold to some random room in Toronada. *shrug*

What is the set of messages for the shard? and is the matching shard in the room ql?

You're not looking for another shard. You're looking for a room. When you find the correct room, touching the shard you have completes the cube thing. It'll be obvious when you're getting closer.

I don't know the exact messages, but:

nowhere near = doesn't react
not very close = dull red color
closer = something violet
almost there = three blue flashes
very close = something green
