Well this char has bound credits on him from the membership. I doubt I could convince anybody in power to assist me in so far as moving those untouched bound credits to a new character. Which sucks, but I'm the idiot who got all reincarnation happy. Maybe it'll make for some good, if expensive roleplay.

I changed races a lot before I got settled into anything. I was dwarf originally, then merian, then faeling, then loboshigaru, and then I went human and stayed human until I got a cameo. So don't feel badly about reincarnating a lot.

Viscanti is a pretty awesome race and if you go to an archetype with illusions you can illusion yourself as dwarf and very few people will be any the wiser.

I have a soft spot for dwarven brewmeisters! Are there many around?

Honestly I've seen only one ever that I can remember.

Hallifax has no bards. Aren't bards eq based anyway?
Lilija2011-09-26 22:53:32
Correct on both points Ibost.

Nobody has anything nice to say about their guild or city? I just want to get a feel for things
without making a hundred alts.

If you're alignment ambiguous, come to Gaudiguch. Have you ever played Armageddon MUD? I envision Gaudiguch as a Zalanthas equivalent(even if that's a bit of a stretch). You can choose to become a Brewmeister(dwarves make good use of the skill), which would have some synergy since Gaudis love their alcohol. You should definitely give the Templars a look if you like the idea of becoming a knight or get into Forging.

For combat between the Institute and Sentinels as a dwarf, I'd suggest the Institute, they are primarily a timing offense and aren't as hindered by the EQ malus, or lack of balance benefit. For warriors just not having a balance buff is like starting out with a balance malus right now.

However, You are lot more likely to find success politically in the sentinels. It's the least active guild and needs ambitious people to take over roles filled by dormant players. If you expect to succeed and want to get yourself into a position of meaning the sentinels would be the way to go.

So, if you want to be top tier in combat as a dwarf, Institute is really the only option in Halli, but there is a lot more to the game than just being top tier

I strongly considered Brewmeister, but I believe you have to be a Bard. And I've gone around in circles about that, dwarf bard is an oxymoron in my head anyway. I believe Warriors are due for some looking at eventually, and will have recieved that overview by the time I'm ready for actual combat. I don't think I have the freetime to power it to Demi, so I'll work on my personal roleplay and stuff with the guild for now.

It's unfortunate I can't find more people willing to play dwarves, as what's in my head would play well with a family system, but cest la vie.

As it stands, while I find my swinging axe a little slow, slow and steady won the race, we'll just have to see how it goes.

Doublepooooost!

I hate looking fickle, because I'm not fickle, but it's been nagging at me ever since someone commented brewmeister dwarves are a rarity.

Tell me about bards, let's do some back and forth on the pros/cons of that Dwarf Bard idea.

Just looking at brewmeister and bard skills, the utility would be insane, as would my DMP.

How capable are they at combat, especially with an EQ malus?

How capable are they at bashing, especially with an EQ malus?

Brewmeister bard bashing seems like it would be crazy good. Your best bet for a tertiary would -probably- be Tarot, and your best guild choice would likely be Cantors, from what little I know about Bards. Hiding Soulless under blackout while making your opponent think you're doing something else would likely be the objective. You would be the tankiest, most utility-ridden guy ever, and would actually be very useful in group combat. Tarot goes off balance.

I'll forge up a max speed axe for you which will help a lot for bashing.

I have a 285 speed axe. It's just slow. I imagine it'll still be slow. But...
Enyalida2011-09-27 18:17:07
I remember someone once cameoing into dwarf-brewmeister to try it and eventually shifting out. I don't really think brewmeistery itself is attractive enough to the average player (better then tinkering?) for various reasons. The throwing up thing is useful though!

If a max speed axe is slow for you, I don't know what'll be fast.
Ushaara2011-09-27 18:19:41
If I remember correctly, there's a jump in speed once you've mastered Knighthood. Should be averaging somewhere around ~2.7s for balance recovery.
Unknown2011-09-27 18:21:11
By the way, Ibost, I'll likely be joining you in the Sentinels soon, and I'm pretty ok at 1v1 warrior fighting if you need help with the basics and Ushaara isn't around or want to spar.
Ibost2011-09-27 18:35:34
We'll have to see.

It's my go to race when I need to be tanky, otherwise I stay faeling. And always changeselfed to furrikin, to assuage the guilt.
