Shard Locations

Back to Common Grounds.

Hmm, straight up riddle hints wouldn't work (these locations seem randomly generated), the only thing I can see working is a general direction. You touch the sphere, and it gives you a sense of general direction (n/s/e/w/center), and if it's in the UV or not. I think that would be sufficient, and it still gives you a lot of ground to cover.

I was thinking cribbing either the name of the room or a line in its description myself.

Would be cool if the maximum range was "same local area" instead of "within 24 rooms.

Aside from a few zones, 24 rooms is local area and then some. I've spotted the feather reacting over 2 zones away

The name of the room would mean you'd just plug it into a mapper and speedwalk there promptly, 0 work involved, that's a bad idea.

Having found a few of my own and helped several times now, the answer, in short is everywhere. But where is everywhere? Toronada, Bondero, Sea of Despair, Inner Sea seem to be common places. Moors are often overlooked but I've found two there. UV is a good last resort.

That's just a limitation that can't be changed.

I'm coming out with a script to help locate them (it'll keep visual tabs for you, not autowalk) - just because the admins have been awesome on bugfixing recently. Look for it soon.

Here it is! It doesn't autowalk, only marks them off the map, making it fun for you and others.

Yeah, it's definitely based off of room distance, and not which area you're in. Otherwise I never would have checked Toronada.

EDIT: Hurr, reading threads backwards and posting before finishing.

Today mine was in the hills riiight outside of Serenwilde.
Enyalida2011-10-03 03:19:59
I've gotten Inner Sea, Skarch, and Grey Moors.
Unknown2011-10-03 03:33:19
For my own personally, Bondero, UV, Moors.

This. This right here. Heck, I'd settle for just western, eastern, and UV. Walking around the Basin aimlessly spamming TOUCH FEATHER is just a little too tedious. As for the 'get help from someone else' aspect...I don't want to bother someone else to help me do the same stupid tedious thing that I don't want to do myself.

I like doing it, sometimes. By the end of the first week it'll get old for me. tongue.gif

Honestly, it's not that hard, you people need to stop whining, if you see some lowbie struggling, help them out. This is a rather cool idea, something I've not really seen yet, and instead of being all excited about it, you guys complain about how hard it is and how it could be better.

Also, people who CANNOT SEE THE MAP BECAUSE THEY ARE BLIND IRL. Help those ones, too. I am actually really excited about this being a different sort of promotion, because it means so much more than logging in for 1 credit a day and sitting afk while I get it. I hate questing, but for some reason this quest is something I enjoy.

I like the idea of a promotional event that asks you to actually do something.

Amazing, support was brought up way earlier in the post! I like this idea, it doesn't reward people logging in on all their characters to sit afk, which is a good thing.

However, I don't think it supports inter- or intra-org help, you have a tedious task, generally you don't want to heap your tedious tasks on someone else, and they don't want your tedious (and so far totally self-centered, in that the miasma is just a curiosity and you're only helping yourself) tasks heaped on them. I've seen high-midbies struggling with this because their diamond spawned somewhere totally obscure. Room names or bits of room descriptions would make this entirely too easy, and that seems obnoxious to code.

Some sort of basic indicator to somehow narrow down the range from the (near-)entirety of the prime plane won't make this toooooo easy, but it gives you a pointer instead of just setting you aimlessly free. What form that could take is not something we could set, but I think that the best suggestion is a general set of binaries. Even just "is it UV, y/n?", "is it e/w?" would mean there was a definate point at which you can say "I've gone too far, I'll go back and recheck." That way, if a lowbie gets UV, they know it and can conscript some help, who knows they won't be wasting their time.

stating that you like this idea BUT it'd be so much better if you made it easier but not too easy is kind of, well, whiney.

I don't know about you, but I've been pretty willing to help people who are struggling, anyone that's said something over CT and I've been able to help, I've done so. I also know that other people within Glomdoring have helped people out (Talan, Xenthos). I'm willing to bet other people are willing to help too. I ran into a tough one earlier helping out someone where the diamond was in the walled off section of Zoaka, but other than that one, I've been able to find any of them within 5mins or so. I guess it's a shame that older people in other orgs aren't willing to help out the younger, less abled people.

As I said, the area where it starts 'turning' is exceptionally large and will take up quite a large area making it pretty easy to find a start point.

The maximum range already is same area. (A glittering snow feather twitches of its own accord, uncurling slightly.)

(Pro-tip: Every "search and find" quest, like this one, has a local area notifier.)
