The issue I see with bouquets is that if they are an arts skill, and that's the only change that is made, then you've essentially added an ability that has no purpose other than to remove items produced by an artefact from the game. There is also a question of how many types of bouquets there could be and whether people would still want individual flowers stocked so that they could make their own bouquets because the shops don't stock the exact type they want.

Yeah, that's why I said there would need to be other things to do with them too. I just don't have those ideas.

To be pretty and used as commodities! -sagenod

I'm pretty sure this is why flowers were originally introduced. And anybody that bought the artifacts got it for this reason. Not sure why we need to introduce a lot of things to change that. Just let them have that use without being a pain to deal with.

Flower pots exist in all games, I am pretty sure they were introduced because of that. Their use as a commodity is minimal at best at the moment because I expect most charites/reviewers would go "lol, shenanigans... rejected" if you used a significant amount of flowers instead of standard comms.

How are flowers or anything on the comms list not 'standard'? Once they're added by the charites, aren't they standard? I recall the bed in Orv's manse using at least 300 flowers on top of other things like tints and wood and cloth.

When you are looking designs there are several natural commodities for each trade type. you could try to make a throne out of flowers, but you would expect that it would be denied unless you had a significant amount of wood/steel/marble/etc type commodities.

When I say standard commodities I mean those that show up listed under the metal/crafting/grocer commodities in IR, my impression is that if you try to make something without any of them you'll get resistance without good reason. Plus there are many things on that list that are just corpses and random items.

Aubrey's wedding dress used 100 flowers and 5 silk. In the first draft of the design, it was 1000 flowers, but I toned it down for some reason. That was before the Charities changed the rules, though. Now it's something like 75% of the comms have to be "standard," that is, for Tailoring, cloth, silk, etc.
Enyalida2011-11-18 23:27:54
I think it's actually something along the lines of "If it has more then 50% of non-standard comms, at least double the number of commodities." But yes, silly flower-only designs just don't go through.
Mirami2011-11-18 23:39:30
I just had a keg rejected for having 3 too few 'standard' commodities, so I can definitively say that the number is 75% 'standard' commodities.

Also, if you want interesting things to do with flowers/interesting flowers... Join Maylea's Order. Her Godrealm has lots of fun, unique, quest-style things you can do with flowers (items that interact with/give you flowers/etc).

On a slightly different note: I have a flowerpot. I like it just the way it is.

Ooo, good to hear Maylea's Order is still active! Orv's always been curious about visiting, but too not sure She would be as accepting of a cityslicker poking around Her Realm like Hoaracle is.

And after more digging, turns out Aetolia does have a Floristry skill, so it might be possible to have a (hopefully not so complicated/roundabout method of making the things) even more awesome variant for Lusternia.

9.5.1 Floristry

Flowers are a common decorative and celebratory piece throughout many
cultures, and in each, the artist that makes a single beautiful flower
or a collection of colorful bulbs come most to life is the Florist. The
talent of Floristry allows you to create a number of floral arrangements
that can be used for decoration, as gifts, or as accessories to your
favorite outfit.

To become a Florist, you must visit the master Florist of Aetolia,
Esine. Located in the Grand College of Aetolia, Esine will teach you all
she knows of Floristry for a fee of 65 credits. Once you have learned
this Talent, you will be as skilled as any other Florist, though your
creativity will be the ultimate test.

To create a floral arrangement, there are several steps you should
follow.

1) Purchase a blank floristry design sketch from Esine.

2) Acquire a layout of the same type as the arrangement you wish to
design, then DESIGN COPY . This will make a copy of the
existing layout on your blank sketch. DESIGN ERASE will
completely erase a sketch, allowing you to start fresh.

3) Customize your sketch's appearance when held, when viewed in a room,
and when examined closely. You can also customize how your arrangements
will appear as worn and removed, although only for those arrangements
that are designed specifically to be worn. Florists can also describe
the scent of their arrangement.

4) Take your design sketch to a craft guild office and DESIGN
SUBMIT it for evaluation. The craft guild will review your sketch and
make a layout from it if the design is approved.

5) When the layout is finished, you will be notified by letter that your
layout is ready to pick up. Return to the craft guild office and DESIGN
REQUEST , using the layout number specified in the letter from
the craft guild. The craft guild charges a fee for the creation of the
layout.

Use DESIGN LIST to list all of the unsubmitted sketches you are holding,
and LAYOUTS to view all of the layouts you hold. Simply ARRANGE #
(design) to create the layouts that you have designed.

Those who have learned the talent of Floristry may make use of a handy storage
space, the Flowercache, designed specifically to store their flowers.

To store a flower, you may INFLOWER . If you wish to store all of
your flowers at once, you may use INFLOWER ALL, or INFALL. INFLOWER may be
substituted by INF anywhere it is used. As you may notice, you are unable to
store flowers which return to another location after a given amount of time,
such as quest items, or those that are imbued with any sort of artifact power.

If you have previously stored flowers in your flowercache, you may view them
using FLOWERLIST (or FLOWERL for short). By default, all of your flowers will be
sorted by type. If you wish to sort them by color, you may instead use
FLOWERLIST COLOR. Finding a specific color of flower is easy, as you may just
use FLOWERLIST followed by a part of the flower's name. Example: FLOWERLIST ROSE
will list any flowers containing 'rose' in their name. If you wish to find a
specific color, FLOWERLIST COLOR GREEN, for example, will list only your green
colored flowers.

You may use the following variations of the FLOWERLIST command:
FLOWERLIST
FLOWERLIST COLOR
FLOWERLIST TYPE

Removing flowers from your flowercache is slightly different than removing
objects from a normal cache. When you wish to remove a flower, you will need to
use OUTF, followed by a part of the flower's name. Example: OUTF ROSE will
remove the first rose in your flowercache. If you wanted only black roses, you
could use OUTF BLACK RO. If you desire, you may put a quantity before your
search; OUTF 50 TULIP will remove the first fifty tulips from your flowercache.
