I don't think it will be THAT bad Kiradawea...I trust Eventru, Estarra, Iosai, and the other's.

(I just hope I can find all the protective gear I need).
Eventru2011-12-13 15:53:57
Kiradawea:

Just saying, people aren't gonna bother to log in for yet another event that kills you at random until the event finishes up sometime outside your timezone.

You're such a sourpuss! Last year, I'd like to think, the event went pretty well. It was a pretty huge undertaking months in the planning, and its finale was pretty remarkable, with record-breaking player attendance (more than 200 people were logged on during the finale).

I can only hope we see such a successful event this year!
Kiradawea2011-12-13 20:12:44
No. Yes. Maybe. I don't consider myself negative for considering the last event a wreck. While mechanically I've seen worse, storywise it was by far the weakest event I've seen.

And either way, my original meaning is simply that people aren't gonna log in for events that give them nothing but death. The event"events" may be fun for those who get to participate, but for many, the deaths are all they see.

This event seems to be tied more deeply into the lore and those who dislike the more whimsical Gnafia will probably enjoy the Forsaken plot.

I did see the admin toning down things a bit--remember, this is trial and error. One of the things climax events need to do is get people out of their doldrums, and like the original reason for Energy Drain in the original D&D game, if the players are gonna be jaded and cynical and ignore concerns--you gotta hit them mechanically.

I love events, but I do hate dying have to admit. But maybe.. it's a long shot given we just got over the great hunt... I hope there will be an xp bonus in effect while/if there are killer hobgoblins on the loose or somesuch to lessen the blow of levels and time lost. When the dominators ran amok during the Institute opening, I died tons, but the xp bonus at least helped me regain what was lost to break more than a little even by the time the whole shindgig was done, and that was fun. Of course I'm not a lowbie anymore, so xp gain is like fractions of a percentile, but maybe xp gain can be scaled to level? Dunno. Whatever happens, I'm excited for it! :3

In all serious, that was the most fun I had since playing Dragon Age: Origins in 2009. You guys all rock.

Now this year, please be at least as fun as The Witcher 2: Assassin of Kings.
Eventru2011-12-14 04:41:06
Remember that we redid how XP is given for mobs, in that mobs that are harder to kill (ie have more health) give more XP. This wasn't the case in the past (we had to manually up their XP values, like we did with the sand critters for the Life seal related stuff).

Say what you like about last year's event - while whimsical in some ways, it certainly was well tied together and closely linked with Lusternia's lore.

Of course, so are the Ice Devils... :)

That was a bad statement on my part--Gnomes definitely fit into the lore, and the event had a lot of cool things tying into it to everything, I was more or less addressing the player criticism against whimsical, and trying to appease those who felt the plot was weaker than other plots.

Okay, I'm a going nuts.

Thanks to you guys keeping me waiting--I have no creative outlet except

...writing a Christmas Song Parody!!!!!! :D

To the Tune of Santa Baby...

Estarra baby, craft a fable of the Icewynd, for me.
Been an awful good player
Estarra baby, and get the event started tonight

Estarra baby, a complex wonderful grand ol' plot, that hot
I'll stay up for it dear,
Estarra baby, and get the event started tonight

Think of all the fun we'll have,
(Except for those players who must bitch and crab)
This year, will be the best I know
If you'll just tell the gods to go.
Boo Boo Be Doop

Estarra honey I want a plot and really that's what we want
Buying credits all year
Estarra Baby, and get the event started tonight.

Estarra cutie, there's one thing I really do need, I plead
Get things going on time
Estarra cutie, and get the event started tonight.

Estarra baby, I expect a lot of things wrecked, and hexed
And chaos that's fine
Estarra baby, and get the event started tonight.

Come and start, the plot so grand
If it's not done soon I'll be very sad
I really do, believe in you
Let's see if you, believe in me
Goo Goo Ga Jube

Estarra baby, please don't forget about the players, I share
We just want adventure
Estarra baby, and get the event started tonight

Get the event started tonight...
Get the event started--tonight!

Beautiful, Sir. Beautiful.

I'm feeling like the Grinch this year. *twirl mustache*

You're a mean one, Eventru...

The rest will come if nothing happens in the next few days...don't force me to turn into Thurl Ravenscroft now!!!
Eritheyl2011-12-19 23:29:25
I just...there are no words.

No words <3

I fully support a Grinch-variant song for me.

Ephemerals would sing it from the mountain tops.
Kagato2011-12-21 12:45:12
Spent a while trying to come up with something decent, but that what I DID come up with sounded far too close to the original for my liking, plus I'd probably get zapped for my efforts if I gave it a SERIOUS stab =p
Unknown2011-12-23 05:07:25
Sorry, the Grinch song is already so over the top it is hard to parody without, as said above, basically cloning it.

Instead, I did this.

Up on Celestia angels boo,
Out comes good old Eventru
Down through the Pool with lots of zaps,
Making wee shards take praying naps.

Oh no no, let us go. Oh no no, dear gods noo
Up on Celestia we will rue,
Down through the nexus, Eventru.

First come the entrance, don't feel well.
Oh dear gods, what the hell?
It is so long you want to cry,
Bright golden font makes you shut your eyes.

Oh no no, let us go. Oh no no, dear gods noo
Up on Celestia we will rue,
Down through the nexus, Eventru.

Next comes the shouting with royal "we",
Just a bit too loquaciously.
Provoked a tainted to shout back,
Now they're a maggot just like that.

Oh no no, let us go. Oh no no, dear gods noo
Up on Celestia we will rue,
Down through the nexus, Eventru.

A picture is worth a thousand words, but hedgehog memes are worth 10,000.

Kagato2011-12-24 07:25:30
Ok, this one is a bit off-theme, but it was a spur of the moment thing
(to the tune of Let it snow)

The basin is truly frightful
The soulless are more than spiteful
We'll blame it on you know who:
Eventru, Eventru, Eventru!

The zappings that come a-dropping
Keep us all on our toes and hopping
It's all due to you know who:
Eventru, Eventru, Eventru!

Deep down he's kind of a decent guy
Thinks that he's the source of hope,
He thinks we in him rely
(until somebody gets a rope!)

I wanted to join in the fun, not sure if someone had already done a version of "Twas the Night Before Christmas":

'Twas the night before Solstice, when all through the city,
Not a creature was stirring, not even a kitty,

The people were sitting in their manses unaware,
In hopes that Ironbeard could be caught while there,

The children were frolicking about Newton with joy,
While citizens were plotting their latest ploy,

And Pops with his staff, and I with my blade,
had just begun an early morning raid,

When out across the Sea there arose such a sound,
it rather resembled something heavy hitting the ground,

so across the Sea I ran, hoping to gain ground,
for across the land I could see presents abound,

Gnomes running in terror, screaming in horror,
fleeing from even the smallest explorer,

when all of the sudden what should appear,
but a great roaring dwarf with a keg full of beer,

bright rosy cheeks and glassed over eyes,
I gave out a sigh, my eyes on the prize,

for I knew Ironbeard was here with presents in hand,
so I stood waiting to steal gifts, my escape route planned,

smiling and humming innocently under my breath,
little did I know of my coming death,

great Ironbeard leaned back for a sip,
and I reached up to take a box from his grip,

and his eyes caught mine, in a drunken rage,
he swung his great fists, breaking my rib cage,

roaring with anger, "Ye deserve none, ye great thief!"
and I ran for my life, away from his fief,

gnomes laughing, their voices dancing with delight,
at one who had finally been given such a fright,

Ironbeard stumbling away in his drunken frame of mind,
shouting, "Merry Solstice to all, and enjoy all the presents ye find!"

It's a pathetic attempt, but I was never good at poetry.
Eventru2011-12-25 04:02:58
That was super cute!

There's a there/their conflict in the first stanza that drove me crazy the whole poem, though, and Ironbeard is a dwarf, not a gnome!

Oops. I totally got Ironbeard and Jolly Bundy mixed up. Let me fix this.

I'm running on 4 hours of sleep. My bad.

Edit: Now that I've reread.... OH GOD WHERE DID MY GRAMMAR GO.
