They do, yeah. If you glance in and see a snow pile (or whatever it is), don't go in there. Simple enough.
Kiradawea2012-01-01 17:42:25
Doesn't help as the piles move. I squinted into a room, immediately went into it and got pulled under despite there being no mound when I squinted.
Iosai2012-01-01 17:47:32
That was either incredibly unlucky (the icediggers moved within the seconds between you squinting and moving), or happened during an early bug with icediggers having phantom mounds.

Ayisdra:
Icediggers leave mounds, just like gravediggers (or so I'm told)
Ah, if they do I must have missed that. I'll keep it in mind.
Kiradawea2012-01-01 17:49:21
Oh I know it was incredibly unlucky most likely. It's still horribly annoying. I just don't see how I could ever survive those mounds though without changing guild and/or class. As it is, they kill me more than twice over.

Honestly, it is only partly due to guild/class.
Akui can survive them because she is an outlier- Orclach psymet tattooist harmony user demigoddess with a regen rune, a life rune, and RoA, beast bodyguard, and a crit rune, and probably some other this and thats.
Even with all that, I get knocked down to between 2-3k health and have some harrowing moments when I dive in when the incoming damage waves are higher than my remaining health.
Also, I credit having my blackout curing with M+M set to its most conservative. I've been chugging allheale, scrolls, sparkleberry, and used more health and bromides in the last day than I have in a week. I'd have gone through all my chervil too if it wasn't for bloodboil.
From experience, I know a well prepared knight, or a tanked up brewmeister dwarf could survive them (the latter might even resist some of the perpeutal blackouting, and be a best-case scenario!) From paying attention to who is dying to them, knights over all seem to die the least.
But they're not easy, and I'd rather take a friend or three any day given the choice. I mean, Aliod is a demigod templar igasho, and they killed him in a few unlucky rounds.
EDIT- I'd love to see what a ice angel trill does to them however!

Can hit and run using tree elevation. The attack waves are slow enough that you can hit once and go back up, assuming you can tank say, two rounds of damage with healing. Also do okay in groups, if the focused target can serpent.
As an aside, it seems only trill above a certain level (titan? demi?) are ice angels. The rest are frost trills!

I liked the buggy times, was kind of funny how you got randomly dropped if you left a hole with no one in it.
-get pulled in
-no mob so I go up.
-literaly as I go up there is a mound in the room and I get pulled into a pit with mobs this time.
Icediggers have a few flaws that you can use to take care of them. They attack as a group, so using serpent you can easy stop them from getting multiple volleys. They attack slow, so slow in fact if you start a pyramid when they hit you will be gone before they hit again. If you kill the queen the path opens and you can leave. All magic means to move can still work, keep a hermit to a nearby room ready and you will be fine.
Personally I dislike icediggers because they are huge groups that take efforts to handle but at least when I saw them they dropped no gold and to my knowledge no one was buying them. So they were a waste of time, many more ways to get essence that will also generate gold.

Do we Trill get to keep these stats? :)
Revan2012-01-02 04:05:55
I doubt it :P Though it's certainly funny to see people without cameos grabbing daggers to reincarnate. I loled

Are the honors quests repeatable?
Vadi2012-01-02 07:12:43
Yay changes :)
I prophetize that in time for the Ascension, this area-wide wind will hit Astral so we don't all lag the game down in the huge spamfight.

No, sorry.
I was surprised your Eventsenses weren't tingling.
Good for Chade, though.
Revan2012-01-02 08:04:20
To be fair... an event as big as this was on a night where the majority of people are out with friends getting smashed... not something that'd be high on anyone's eventsenses :P

But this is Ixion. The goldfish are not strong with him it seems.

The only thing more surprising than the contents of the icedigger pits are the number of them. Viynain and I tried to clear them last night and we kept finding more and more, and people were still dying to diggers somewhere even after like 22~ pits. Bananas.

I don't think there's that many of them, so much that they return very quickly. For example, I was just finishing one when someone meandered by and fell in to the pit I was in. While I was explaining what they were and why I was in a hole, the diggers came back!
I like them though, they make that central ice plain feel threatening and dangerous, rather than just another evil-looking place to blow through.
Ushaara2012-01-02 16:51:44
Really, the quests aren't repeatable? That's a shame. I was hoping for an illithoid/kepheran continual war thing. Where once Zenos is defeated in next ascension or whatever, the benefits of becoming an ice angel would be reduced and it would be like a royal kephera/illithoid reaper thing? :(
(Plus the whole time-travelling aspect etc. )

Yep. I had hoped there would be some way to just like...let a LITTLE bit of Zenos out to boost Trill.

Pretty sure there are that many, because at one point Talan and I had enough corpses (and orbs) to make up 24 distinct gravedigger pits. Once we had cleared 24 there were no more; just not sure if others had cleared a couple (we had 7-8-9 orbs, and I would expect the number of them to match...)
Also: Why would you be hoping for the Ice Angel effect ala Royal Kephera / Illithoid Reaper? Those are basically those races' version of specializations. Trill already have specializations! They're already boosted.
