My concerns are as follows:

-one expressed over envoys already- are we really going to need two sets of clothes in order to deal with weather extremes? I mean, that's "realistic" as these things go, but also spammy and annoying. Not to mention potentially adding a lot of items right after we just got done clearing them out. (Obviously, nothing on the scale of the vial pile, but still).

-tangentically to the above, what about masterplate and splendours. They cannot have a second set of summer/winter wear without giving up the benefits of their superior armour.

Speculation- As it stands, races with resist to one and weakness to the other have a clear path. Like Dracnari. They may as well bundle up, since they do better in the heat anyway, and do much worse in the cold than most. Or Orclach, level 2 cold resist/level 3 fire weakness- may as well wear lighter clothes all the time.

In a way, that's kind of neat. I like the concept of the weather effects, I'm just a little concerned with the hassle/hasty stuff. I'm glad its still being worked on!

I specifically did not pad my robes, I'm not sure about warriors but I did not need them to be to get bundled up and I rather than having two sets, I'd just remove all the extra stuff.

Hrm. I've a sparse set for begging and a layered set of clothes for looking like royalty already, so there hasn't been a change in clothing cost or inventory management for me. I'm not noticing any dramatic slowdowns, even though it was cold enough in Ethereal Serenwilde to do passive freezing.
Iosai2012-01-07 17:58:46
It may well be worth having /some/ winter/summer clothes, but in general you should be able to remove the excess things (like scarves, socks, gloves) and use padding carefully to avoid the worst of the weather. I will be talking to Estarra about another idea I have in mind that might help you, so stay tuned. :)
Lyfon2012-01-07 19:23:53
Thank you! With the extra padding in my fieldplate and some extra cloak/coat/scarf/gloves, I'm dressed nice and warmly for the snowstorms. Movement is somewhat slowed in some areas, but I wouldn't call it unbearable by any means. Actually taking the weather seriously is a nice touch.

Hot/Cold drinks!

It does also seem like it gets way too cold in the mountain roads... subarctic temperatures in autumn?

Probably because they're mountains; they can be pretty darn frigid in late autumn. Or even year round, if tall enough. Some of the mountains have glaciers, after all!
Iosai2012-01-07 21:25:35
I have just slightly modified the mountains. They shouldn't be quite as extreme for the majority of the time, although they will still occasionally reach extremes (particularly in winter).

To be clear, the intention is for this to happen, but not be as bad as it is. I know you're going to make it less annoying than it was, that it's more annoying than intended. But there's no benefit in it. Making the act of walking somewhere more tedious and annoying does no one any good. Saying it will be less annoying than it is, that's great. But that just makes a big mistake into just another tiny annoyance. It is still a bad idea, but it's a bad idea whose time has come.

Something I would like, maybe in Shamanism, is a skill that allows a preferance to the weather (either be hot or cold) in which said setting doesn't have an effect on you. Assuming realism is thought of in the system, obviously people that normally see a winter with negative degrees are not going to say that below 32 is 'cold' while they may say that 90 is 'omg turn up the AC to max' thus something to relex this would be nice.

or a cheap artifact (under 20cr) that makes nonenchanted robes permament (of which layering maybe need to change depending what is allowed under armor/robes)

I'm fairly sure you can make an item permanent for 50 credits.

I still think Brooch of the Tempest should get some weather protection attached to it .___.

I'm pretty sure this is weatherguard and already implemented. You still get hit by all shamanism effects (tornado and so on) and by things like passive freeze/hailstones. It does prevent the map hiding effects of weather also, I believe.

EDIT: Nope, doesn't currently stop slowing. I'm not entirely sure what it does then, may only be the map thing. That may be from weathersight then, not sure.

I ran round Avechna's Teeth a few times last night with the 'hard to move' cold in the middle of winter. With normal summer clothes it was painfully slow but once I togged up with padded gear (except for the splendours) it was fine. I had lengthened legs for speedier running and padded boots, hat, cloak, and gloves, socks, scarf, underwear and splendours. We'll have to add padded gear to things a novice should have but being a tailor I enjoyed dressing my dolly in a new wardrobe!

The one problem I had was forgetting to take my wooly hat off in a Wargame. Kelly chopped my head off in three blows.
Saran2012-01-08 08:31:01
I did a mask instead, seems to work fine and no need to lower hood.

Speaking of which, so should my umbrella!

A series of Shamansim reports are already in the works! Roots, Death and Pressure are all up right now, with reports on Frogs and Quake (and probably nerfs for claw and possibly quicksand) are in the works on my part.

Which environment types does Shamanism Land present trance work with? Quite a few come up as being "too barren". Or is it natural forest only?
Unknown2012-01-16 03:19:55
Forest, Swamp, Grassland, and Plains as far as I've been told.
Iosai2012-01-16 13:15:13
It works with any 'soily' environments. This currently expands to: natural underground, forest, grasslands, path, valley, mountains, jungle, garden, trees, or farmlands.
