Oh man. Well, that explains why I was moving so slowly in Icewynd. However, if this is here to stay, there needs to be some serious changes to layering, plate armour being one of them.

Thick furred races should totally be resistant against cold weather effects. Heavy ones (size?) against windy, and the deserty firebreathing ones against heat!
Xenthos2012-01-04 00:16:02
Athletics Fitness should also help against high temperatures if it doesn't, as that's what the AB claims.

This is what I was wearing last night, and EVERYTHING slowed me down to the point I just went and sat in my manse, because I assumed nothing so catagorically crap-tacular and pointlessly obnoxious would be intentional, and I'd just wait it out.
And honestly, having some weather artifact would be like, if a doctor shot somebody in the knee, then offered to perform the surgery for a couple grand. I buy credits, I splurge on arties. But if that artifact came out?
It would be like spraying acid in our eyes, and then offering us $200 safety goggles.
Or slashing our tires in the dead of night, then show up as a door-to-door tire salesperson in the morning.
So better idea. Just make it go away. Please

My experience doesn't compare to that at all, and I was chasing Munsia around today in the Inner Sea - only with robes on.

There was a hurricane, I found through Forecast, on the Old Imperial Road. It's not listed in each room description, but I bet that has a large bit to do with it. It'll probably pass.
It's kind of nice that we have to pay attention to weather and temperature now. Makes it a bit more realistic. I just want my armour to keep me at least somewhat warm, and I'll be happy.

Wear underwear (boxers/panties, bra, socks/stockings), and accessories (scarf, hat, veil, gloves, probably more).
This is exactly enough for me to be 'dressed normally'. If I take one thing off, I become ' a bit underdressed'.

If there's no weather to speak of, it's still fine. If there's even a light rain, it's annoying, but if the light rain level were what I was generally dealing with, I wouldn't be bothering to talk about it.
But last night. Went to the cold all bundled up. Movement was so hindered that the new place was not-fun at all, so I said, screw it. I went to celest. It was raining fairly hard. Movement was still a huge pain. So I said, lets go to the opposite extreme, and took a trip to the skarch. Movement still screwed to the point that it inspired me to just go sit in my manse.
Having weather impact things is one thing. I like that. But when it takes the form of something so... arbitrarily punitive feeling? Pass. I like being able to walk around the game, oddly enough, without having hasty messages jammed down my throat every three seconds. That simply isn't fun.
Better ideas, so I'm not just Ms. Ball of Seething hate and negativity- make it impact visibility in different ways, make it stop flight, or get hit by lighting for damage. Make it give burn levels. Make snow drifts accumulate that act like briarwalls.
Any of those, I would prefer to the hasty spam.
Vadi2012-01-04 00:56:35
High winds do stop flight already.

Fantastic. One fewer reason to have excessive hasty messages to account for weather then!

Are mages hindered by their own elements? That is, do aeromancers still get slowed in hurricane winds, or pyromancers in the heat?
Seraku2012-01-04 01:03:35
While the weather stuff is new and needs to be tweaked a bit I still thoroughly enjoy it. I do agree that certain races should have resistance against weather like dracs and heat, while suffering more from cold environments.

Certain mages already get resistance from Shamanism things, like Geos aren't affected by earthquakes (somewhat relevant info).

That would be neat too. I could see Orclach doing better in the cold and wind, and I wouldn't be bothered if I had a hard time in the Skarch, what with the level 3 fire weakness.
Maybe make racial resists and weaknesses impact things?

All this and I'm a bit underdressed. As a tailor, I think great and splendour robes should count for more than they do, since they take up as much space as two articles of clothing
Another thing, tailors should be able to tell how much warmth or weather protection their clothing adds, and possibly be able to proof against bad weather, like adding padding to various things

That, or be able to wear robes over pants/shirt.
Lyfon2012-01-04 01:43:15
Okay, now wearing boxers, fieldplate, gloves, scarf, boots, helm. Still "Scantily-clad." Oh well! Unfortunately you can't wear clothes other than underwear beneath the plate.
Sylphas2012-01-04 01:50:17
Well, if we're still into "realism," metal is a damned fine conductor of heat, which is why we cook in metal pans and such; it makes a terrible insulator against hot or cold, so really you're just getting what you deserve for walking around in a full set of plate.
Arix2012-01-04 01:51:01
I never understood why you can't wear pants and a shirt under robes. And not wearing clothing under armor is just asking for severe chafing
