Well, if we're still into "realism," metal is a damned fine conductor of heat, which is why we cook in metal pans and such; it makes a terrible insulator against hot or cold, so really you're just getting what you deserve for walking around in a full set of plate.

If we're into realism, plate armour is more than just a bunch of metal strapped to the body, and has all kinds of padding attached to the inside (on top of some manner of clothing!).

Well, of course, but Lusternian "realism" is incredibly picky about what counts and what doesn't.
Vadi2012-01-04 02:14:41
Yeah, it is. Everyone is affected by this though, so in practice - nobody is any slower, just walking isn't as quick as it used to be. New players coming to the game won't notice a difference, and existing players could get used to it as well. It's obvious that clothing needs to be fixed for this as well, so... just give it some time, this was only out for a day or two.
Turnus2012-01-04 02:16:47
Letting tailors imbue clothes with extra protection against the elements would be a nice. Padding that cloak so its better against the cold, lightening it so the heat isn't so bad, or waterproofing it against the rain.

I also agree about giving races advantages/disadvantages to certain weather elements.
Eventru2012-01-04 04:19:50
I think races do (or were supposed to and it was missed in the chaos) have some protection.

Regarding the highways, a small mea culpa on my part - we were running through setting up some things at the last minute and I'd forgotten the highways were all one very mild system - a triumph of the highmagic enchantments over the wiles of Nature, to be certain. (*fanboy swoon Celest*)

Making it terrible for fighting in the heat. Likewise, almost every design I've looked at has no padding, so they should be penalized in hot or cold...

...Skin being torn off and frozen to the freezing metal, for example. :ninja:

I've seen hurricane force winds all over the highways. Not so sure about that!

Like I said, they were mis-set. It's been fixed though!

The first set of plate public designs had 198 which is...

This most impressive of all armours is a work of art. Designed specifically for the owner of it, it is perfectly forged and fitted. Every plate in it interlocks, and all are angled so as to optimally deflect blows. Every plate is highly decorated with etchings and inlaid metals, but the functional integrity of the suit is completely intact. Behind the metal plates are a layer of chain mail, and then heavy quilted padding.

:P

I want immunity to rain.

I will be satisfied with that, and with some sort of elfen shoes that will quicken my step. I forget what they're called in LoL, but give 'em to me, baby.

Edit: Elfen shoes being an artifact. Just. Give. Me. Something. Before. I. Quit. Playing.

Edit 2x: I'm serious. I'm contemplating quitting playing over this. Not because of the hasty messages, but because when I get slowed down it shows me nothing for a message. BRING ON THE HASTY MESSAGES, PLEASE, SO AT LEAST I KNOW MY COMMANDS ARE GOING THROUGH.

Not seeing messages could be from the mudlet mapper? That gags hasty messages. Maybe add to the hasty message to say if you're slowed for being too hot, cold, or windy.
Enyalida2012-01-04 06:51:24
Also, make friends with your faction Field-Shaman, and have them tweak things a bit to make going a bit easier. All they'll probably want is a bit or two of essence in exchange, to pay for the power! Considering trying to start up a Bureau of Weather or something.
Chade2012-01-04 10:43:08
Ixion beat me to it :P

My plate has padding in the desc ;)

I'd love to help you here, but this is one of the times when you'll have to help yourself. Lusternia does send hasty messages, but most mappers and autowalkers gag them. If you want to see them, you'll have to find and disable the trigger yourself.
Ssaliss2012-01-04 13:11:25
I can only echo the above posts. I get the messages fine (although they do, at times, drive me batty), so they are sent.

If I might make a suggestion, I think that any form of weather which affects movement should supercede other forms on LOOK. I don't need to know that the temperature is nice and mild if there are HURRICANE FORCE WINDS BLOWING INTO ME AAAAAAAHHHHH. Right now it just seems to be random.
Iosai2012-01-04 15:36:40
Correct, it shows one of the three weather lines at random (wind, cloud, or temperature). You can FORECAST to see all three at once. I think people just need to get used to forecasting again.
Unknown2012-01-04 15:49:22
The only problem with using forecasting is that, for weather, you really should be able to experience with your senses immediately, forecast might need to be changed to actually predict what's coming, assuming you don't just roll random dice for it.

The biggest problem with the weather, at least from what I can see, is that it is hard to see what's going on until you experience it directly. Ideally, A thunderstorm should be immediately apparent so we can actually act as if there's some big storm, so we can act appropriately.

Also, depending on how storms are handled, I think area or even world emotes could be added to the system so people know if a hurricane or blizzard arrives in the area, so people can prepare (especially RP wise), similar to how the crazy weather worked during the 2010 Gnafia climax.

I hope you guys have a way to force control of the weather for new events! :)

We could make it SURVEY instead of FORECAST, but again, I think Iosai has the right of it. I think people would complain if:

The Pool of Stars
It's a bit windy here, isn't it? Meleris, Keeper of the Pool is here. Lorina is here, picking her nose. Aison is here, picking her nose too. Sheia isn't here because she hasn't logged in today, PITA.

Became:

The Pool of Stars
It's a bit windy here, isn't it? Sweet crap is it hot, it's like 100 degrees! Holy jeez, it's cloudy! Raging storms HOOOO! Damn, all of this makes it look like it's HUUUURICANING out in here. Meleris, Keeper of the Pool is here. Lorina is here, picking her nose. Aison is here, picking her nose too. Sheia isn't here because she hasn't logged in today, PITA.

That's a real example, pulled right from the game, but I think you get my point. FORECAST is a quick and easy way to tell what the weather is like, and I think people will get used to spamming it (even if they gag it and display it in a little side window or what have you - it's probably what I'd do)
