Xenthos:
TOO LATE!
I already bought 13 regulators. :(
(It also couldn't be priced very high, regulators are pretty cheap and easy to attach to everything. Unless it also reduced the charges consumed, in which case it would be handy; maybe if it only used a charge every other time or something)
Oh! Yes, that was what I had in mind. I seem to have completely neglected to mention it, thank you. And yeah, in my mind it'd be fairly inexpensive, since it's more a convenience thing than anything. Saves you from needing to track down a tinker every time your sigils go bad, etc.

One thing that I think would help combat for both young and old alike: standardised messages for wounds. Right now when a knight hots you you only get the message "soandso hits you." with a secondary message that could be a wound message or an affliction message, and each monk have several different messages when it comes to them dealing wounds on bodyparts. Having a single unified message (perhaps even slightly varying dependant on the level of wounds) would make it immensely more newbie-friendly.

No, thanks. It's enough that you can see exactly what a warrior does, unlike most classes that have several random/hidden aff attacks.
If you want to make things more transparent, disambiguate the symptoms for things, rather than the 'You are too blah to do that.'

Can't you already tell where you're hit though, only it involves gathering a hundred different lines or more? I mean, if your scalp or ears are cut off, then you're hit in the head. You get a lacerated left arm, you're obviously hit in the left arm, and so on. Making a general message for when you get wounds would just cut down on the number of lines you have to gather as a newbie. In fact, I'd say that the affliction lines would be more potent, since (unless I misunderstood knight combat) some afflictions only come at certain wounds, meaning if you get scalped you know you're at medium head wounds (assuming they come at medium wounds; I just guessed there to make a point).

Standardize aff messages across the entire game.
Get some form of aeon? You have been afflicted with aeon.
Some form of slit throat? You have been afflicted with slit throat.
Etc, etc. Kinda like those affmessage thingies that're available in config. Except, not sucking and actually applied evenly, across the board. For hidden affs (and by that, I mean those that have a generic message they share with other affs, TP does that I think?) obviously it'd need to be You have been afflicted with hidden/unkown/something that sounds cool.
Call it dumbing down, but gathering a butt ton of lines != fun

They started to implement that but gave up. It works on very few things, so it's not really helpful.
Luenn2012-03-06 09:27:29
There also need to be unaffliction messages for when you're cured. E.g. You are no longer afflicted with aeon.
Combined with the affliction messages, you could make a fully functional (Though not terribly efficient) curing system using firstaid and 2 triggers.

That really screws up illusions, though, and I believe Roark said he was against it (Sorry if I'm misquoting you!) I'm against standard aff messages for player-skills for that reason alone. It's a tremendous nerf (see, killer) of anything that relies on illusions.
100% pro for mob ones, though, that aren't pet-related things.

You guys do realise that aff-messages in PK already exist, right? Most, if not all, Knight-afflictions have them, as do most, if not all venoms. The other classes are kindof hit-and-miss.
Naia2012-03-06 16:08:57
Please don't turn this game into mechanics vs meta-gaming more than it already is.
Ssaliss2012-03-06 16:27:26
Affmessages will now pop up when you receive a hidden or masked affliction.
Discipline Curing's Autohealing will now be able to use scrolls of healing and sparkleberries.
May I just say: Thank you! One question (if you're reading this thread, that is): Will it also make use of "faux-sparkle" (i.e. herbs that are blessed by the Nature Domoth)? I don't mind much if it doesn't, but wanted to make sure.

This is only partially correct. You need at least that level of deep wounds on that body part to get that affliction. So, you'd be able to tell if you were at medium or higher, but you might not realize that you're actually at critical. If people want an optional message that says 'You're left arm is wounded by the blow.' or whatever, that would be more acceptable, but I'm not keen to tell them just how wounded they really are.
Ssaliss2012-03-06 16:59:08
A message like "Your left arm is wounded by the blow" was the core of my idea, yeah. The added level of damage was an added "it would be nice". Sorry if that wasn't clear!

Yes, it will, see CURING AUTOHEAL DOMOTH ON/OFF. It will also use magictomes (if available) from the next changelog.

Aff messages will now pop up with a hidden or masked affliction...
Doesn't this defeat the purpose of Nekotai poison mods and Amihai? Or am I missing something?

And I bet that the ones that do have it aren't ones that are important. Slitthroat lines shouldn't have it. Those are illusioned to force cleanse cures. Etc.
Unknown2012-03-06 17:56:18
It doesn't seem like a good idea to alert someone to a hidden affliction. Charybdon, for instance.
Ssaliss2012-03-06 18:00:43
It doesn't say what affliction is given, obviously. The message given is You are afflicted with an unknown ailment.

EDIT :blargh, ninja
Janalon2012-03-06 18:07:38
The 200 ka shocree mod is supposed to hide both transfer AND symptom lines. This would all be undone if you receive a generic aff line.
