I'm really not a fan of the ways domoths work for the following two reasons:
-OnlyDemigods Ascendants can really participate in it. Sure, you can go help with the second stage, but most of the benefit from domoths is personal and only Ascendants are reliably going to have them. Which brings me to the second part:
-Bubble conflict. I hate bubble conflict. If you die and don't have the 300 dingy artifact, you're out and if the other side does have one, you lose, unless you have TOTALLY OVERWHELMING forces. You can use ships, but the speed difference means you're borked. I'm all for artifacts powering people up, but they should power people up, not entire orgs, imo. It being on bubbles also means that it's totally divorced from everyday life, it's not something that takes place at all on the prime plane, and it's hard to care about the status of some realm you never ever go to except for this event, and ditto for the bubbles. Go to them to do their quest, or for flares, or for domoths then ignore them completely as they don't really have all that much interesting to do beyond those three things.
In short, I want a prime plane conflict mechanic, that you can more casually take part in (as a youngling), that actually has lasting effects that aren't detrimental, and that isn't totally and completely frustrating (like domoths are). Besides, Domoths is all about zerg combat, which is totally lameo.

So you're asking for village revolts.
TBH, the forums on Aetolia already rant about how ylem fights are just huge team fights. I'm not really inclined to believe that putting ylem in here would accomplish that you're looking for.
Plus the admin don't like ripping things off.
Basically, I'm not sure why you want a completely new conflict mechanic when we already have a ton of other ones. If there are complaints about them, I'm sure they can be tweaked to be more fun.

I've seen tons of Domoth fights (even recently) that weren't about zerg combat... and heard of many more.
Further, there are Demigods claiming Domoths just fine right now (they may not be happy about the time but they seem to keep going for it).
The issue is less with what you have stated and more with one side not really caring to participate, which is a completely different subject. Especially as that side could definitely be competing, say, right now when Celest can't even participate.

I'm kinda wanting to see some form of rallying quest that a raiding org can perform prior to actually initiating the attack. The stages I would imagine are:
1. Perform quest on org planes (Celest would start summoning the powers of Celestia and Water for example), equal amounts of fairly simple work and can be locked to leaders if desired.
2. Completion of the quest produces an item.
3. Using the item allows the initiation of an event (possible delay between initiation and announcement if desirable)
4. Allies on both sides can declare support to participate. (Magnagora can support Hallifax if Glomdoring initiates a raid so that they can help them progress towards their goal)
5. Mobiles and Objects spawn to reflect the invasion and possibly provide additional objectives to gather "ylem" based on number of participants. (Of course, current goals such as slaying avatars/lords or ladies/angels would also be incorporated)
6. Possible routine progress checks to prevent things like camping. (If you aren't actively increasing your "score" for a certain period of time your efforts start to suffer)
7. Once an end goal is reached the raiders either waltz off in glory or are thrown from the plane. (Edit: forced move, but the echoes reflect the outcome)

Moving domoths off bubbles, OR making them easier to access when a domoth is in play are great ideas for a first step in making Domoths more accessable to non-Ascendants
Xenthos2012-02-29 00:10:22
1) Set up ships with flashpoints (really easy; Glomdoring has something like 6 little ships with flashpoints now).
2) Get a bubblix or two.
Getting to a bubble isn't a problem. Interest is the problem, and again, there's a domoth happening right now. Celest can't even show up. I see a good pile of Hallifaxian fighters around, some Magnagorans, some Serens... but I don't see any of them bothering.

1) set up a small standby fleet (or one big ship really) to destroy these aetherships as they arrive. Repeat X times and they run out of ships to flashpoint with
2) Expensive and not a constructive remark that addresses the problem of accessability. Remember, not everyone is Xenthos who coughs, sneezes and farts thousands of credits at a whim :P

You've got your own ships, if you want to fight! It's pretty rare that there's a fleet waiting.
Right now there is zero fleet waiting for you. C'mon, go ahead.
It also doesn't take thousands of credits to get a bubblix or two, especially if it's spread around between your organization. I may have a lot of them myself, but there are others spread out amongst Glomdoring's other fighters / populace.

There's still plenty of time to show up.
Revan2012-02-29 00:30:53
Having to invest credits just to be able to easily access something that ought to be easily accessable to everyone due to the nature of said conflict mechanic is, again, not the right answer at all.
In any case... I think we've derailed the thread from Raiding to Domoths... let's get back to raiding! More incentive to raid please
Edit: And I just asked... nooooo response on Ironhart at all =/

350k gets you a ship with 3 points.
No defending fleet.
I just don't get your argument, you don't have to invest credits.
(If you're going to make a point, I get to respond to it!)
Edit to your edit: Yeah, that's the point I was trying to get at, it's more a 'lack of interest' than a 'lack of access' to me. Which is kind of sad, the Domoth fights are generally pretty fun.

To be fair, though. It's pretty disheartening when there is severe disinterest owing to superior numbers. MagHalliSeren are not exactly overflowing with numbers compared to the other end of the spectrum.

That's so variable though, sometimes they have easily more numbers, it changes regularly

They're not? Gaudiguch / Glomdoring are outnumbered right now.
Hallifax, oddly, has a pretty good number of people who fight. Serenwilde does too. Magnagora's the one that's kind of lacking right now.

Just a random thought about the OP, helping novices with the planar quest can be a problem if this is implemented.
Enyalida2012-02-29 00:48:45
I think that the counterpoints to the things I said didn't take into account those things I said. But we've derailed long enough.
Yes, I think we should have brand new conflict mechanics. If that means we have too many, scrap some of the old ones. Seriously. I (and many others, I find) don't like the current mechanics because they are all about control over resources no one cares at all about, and are implemented in ways that guarantee either meaningless squabbling and pointless raiding or sporadic GIGANTIC conflicts where more numbers = sure victory. That's Villages, Domoths and Wildnodes (though I like these most, I find. Too bad they are always at stupid times). Some way to have more... casual, non-raidy conflict would be nice.
I think the complaints with the Ylem system revolve around the BIG Ylem instances, the Major ones. Those are closer to Villages or Domoths than anything else, and have all the same problems.
