If it makes any of you feel better, I purchased a crate before the change to the wheel and received far lower than most people who bought equivalent packages due to the spins I received (I attracted the experience and gold spins). The tweak makes them still worth more than the equivalent credit package and I'll buy another crate at the end of the month just to try my luck (and hope it's changed). Wheel spinning is fun.
EDIT: Also, the ability to buy crates with gold would probably go a long way towards fixing our current credit market woes - lets hope IRE respond positively.

Just to play the devil's advocate here.
All promotions that provide a better than average return on your dollar are inherently unfair. For those who have spent hundreds or thousands of their own money on credits over the years, some yahoo dropping a few credits worth, or worse, just some of a in game gold reserve, on a crate, and receiving far more than that investment (if you can even call the latter an investment) is otherwise worth, is a slap in the face.
For those who have parted with their hard-earned money in order to secure perks for their characters, nearly giving a much better value to any wild-eyed gambler with a shiney coin in their hand cheapens what those supporting the game have given up. It is a punch to the gut.
Worse, each time this occurs, it hurts the incentive for people to continue to actually purchase credits. Why bother, when someone else is going to pile on a comparative benefit via an inherently unfair and inequitable promotion? Even worse, when you can spend in game gold, which for some is far easier to obtain than others, to easily match the investment value of people who have spent healthy sums of real money on the game. It is an abrasive twisting to the epidermis!
Therefore, the wheel has not been nerfed enough! The change should have even more of an impact!

All I'm getting from this is that I deserve all my credits and lessons back whenever a skill of mine gets nerfed.
Unknown2012-03-04 10:33:47
I've always thought credits are too expensive anyway for what they're worth and so if this promotion gives out lots of nice things to people who otherwise wouldn't be able to afford them, then all the better. At least there'd be more happy people around (could the converse also be true? Hmm). It would be nice if the promotion had been able to last all month (seeing as it was an admin-side oversight) and then tweaked for the next time it happens. But alas, profit always trumps all other issues in the end.

I've been checking for several days whether we can sell crates for gold but I haven't received word back. (Sometimes people forget that there are people over my head!)
Good to know. Aetolia has it, but there you buy a thingie and open it, no wheel spinning involved. Still, I don't think it should be a problem, maybe our gold price would be higher but other than that, don't see why not.
*fingers crossed*

I have to admit, I was pretty damned annoyed with my wheel spinning, compared to what other people have reported getting. 15 coins and 15 curios (all rubbed) amounted to around 700 lessons, 100k or so of gold, around 7% XP, 10 free credits, 36 bound credits, 5 clovers, one TF, two presents, one with salt and one with diamonds. THAT'S IT. Tell me how that was actually worth the RL money? The appeal is the fact that you can (and likely will!) win way above what you put into it. When I see that in the first few days people with the same number of coins and curios got 1000s worth of credits, quite frankly it makes me mad. Either I am the unluckiest spinner ever, or there was some serious nerfing going on. :(

Bad luck happens, I did a lot of spins before the nerf and got nothing great.

Ok, if you really want to break it down...
700 lessons = Approximately 116 credits (rounding down). Even allowing 4c per lesson (roughly the price in the recent lesson promotion) That is still USD$28 Working on a purely credit->lesson basis it rockets up to around $50
46 credits @ 40c per credit = USD$18.40
100k gold... let's be generous and assume 12k gold per credit... USD$3.20
Truefavors, Critical clovers and presents you can't really put a value on.
Experience-wise, I'd need to know what circle you are to get an idea of what sort of output you were getting. I was getting around 1.5% exp at 84th circle. Can't really put a monetary value on time spent bashing and influencing.
With the items exclusively that can have a rough monetary value attached, you got well over USD$50 worth of goodies for USD$24. Pretty decent IMHO, though the wheel WAS more than a little over-generous in early days, I will give that much.
If anyone should be annoyed it should be IRE since they will have lost out on a LOT of money from the amount of credits and artifacts that have flooded the market. Granted they will have made some of it through the sale of the crates, but they will have lost a lot by people that will no longer need to buy credit packages to buy artifacts they were planning on. One person managed to snag enough credits to buy a tailors workbench (they purchased 3 crates to get them though AFAIK) - That is $169 IRE will have lost out on. Another got a Mask of Concealment (worth 800 credits) - This was AFTER the wheel nerf - $255 that IRE will no longer potentially be getting.

The Wheel is and has always been a gamble (albeit to a far lesser extent when the probabilities were all skewiff). Some will get more than the average, and some will get less. If you want exactly what you pay for, then buy a definitive package. If you want to take a little risk, then feel free to try the wheel. I don't think I've ever seen anyone get less than the equivalent of what they paid for, when you convert everything to credits and compare the prices, but given that there is a random element, you may or may not get as much as the next person. That's just the luck of the draw and, in my humble opinion, half of the fun of the Wheel!

Man I hope we can buy crates for gold. That would be most excellent.

Yeah, I wonder if I should save my gold for crates or try to buy credits. I guess I'll hold on to it for a little while longer! :D

I personally would save for crates. Buying credits from the market is stupid, at least at these prices it is (although I do love the high prices myself.)
As for the wheel. the crit bonus does does nothing for me, as does the TF thing. So buying a crate (which I don't probably do now) and getting either of those is a waste of money in my eyes. I would have much preferred the wheel not give those two things at all (even replacing them with something something else, or raising the chance of something else would be better).

Would it be possible to make the truefavours and bonus crits into transferable items (with no credit value) that can be activated at will? That way, spinners don't feel compelled to begin bashing ASAP to take advantage of crits/favours, and those who don't want or need them can trade them to other players.

I would suggest at the least letting the lucky clover hit effect be an item that can be kept and used when wanted instead of at the instant of the wheel spin.
Edit: Ninjaed!

I really had my cranky pants on when I posted - a week sick in bed will do that to you. Anyway, yes, critical hits are MEH when you're like me and really prefer influencing over bashing. Why not an influencer bonus? A temporary mask of esteemed beauty or a charisma buff?
(And yes I whined, because I COVET. It's great spinning the wheel, I love it. But when compared to the awesomeness you see others get, my spins were lame. I hate bashing, and we just had a lesson sale!)

how about access to temporary artifacts, just like the artifact bandits (but including dolls and others)?

Preferably only for powerful artifacts, it should actually GIVE you weaker artifacts.
