For whatever reason, my fingers are happier typing 'star' than 'wetfold'.
Enyalida2012-03-07 20:02:23
It's all one hand, yeah.
Lendren2012-03-07 21:27:06
The ability to "release kirigami" wasn't there originally, it was added a few weeks or months after origami came out. Before that you had to target by one of the nouns of the pattern. It's one of those convenience things like "smoke coltsfoot" or "rub mercy" or "sip healing".

RELEASE FLAME was always a pain in the ass when I still had my Flame of dae'Seren. Guess it would be easier now.
Naia2012-03-08 07:18:30
Well my swan that was accepted a month ago now got rejected.
Enyalida2012-03-08 07:27:56
You're kidding, right?
Unknown2012-03-08 07:32:54
Ok, so it's back to being 100% stupid then. Good to know.
Please rethink this decision to make origami design needlessly restricted.

This might also lead to question: Is this precedent for all trades that have ever had wrong patterns to be retconned? So, pick through everything in the database, reject, resubmit?

I've reported some old tailoring designs that didn't have the appropriate main nouns before as typos, because they wouldn't be able to be referred to by their noun properly and stuff. Like you would try to GET BLAZER and it wouldn't work because technically it's a coat, for example. That makes sense and I think any messed up old designs should be reported as you come across them.

Any designs you find like that you can TYPO (try to include the short description in the bug, so they can easily find the bug) and the design people can hunt it down and either fix it (if it's easy enough) or reject it.

This topic is still bothering me, as design is one of most important aspects of the game to me.
What I can't help but wonder, not just throughout this thread, but since the implementation of origami in Lusternia: why are the origami patterns like they are?
Right now it just seems needlessly restrictive! I can think of plenty of reasons to not have them be this way, but to my knowledge no explanation has been offered for the way they are now. I would really appreciate one.

A Phoebus origami.
RELEASE PHOEBUS
Come again?
(Who knows.)

That doesn't even have to be an issue though. We could just get rid of the "release " and make "release origami" the only option, and allow for more flexible designs if it bothers people so much.
Enyalida2012-03-10 16:29:58
Or have that as a fallback option. If you want a fancy release noun, you can use one of the fancy patterns or request another one. If what you want to make doesn't fit any of those, you can use the basic RELEASE ORIGAMI only item.

I would still love to know this!

In a pattern that said "a Phoebus origami", 'Phoebus' is acting as an adjective. It's describing the noun, which is 'origami'.
If we had "a frog hat", people would not try to 'wear frog'. And in following this, it is counter-intuitive to want to 'release Phoebus'.
The fact that origami were set up the way they were, with 'flame' being a noun instead of (or more reliably than) 'origami' is where the problem lies. It seems to make sense from a designing and usability perspective to change the main nouns of all origami to 'origami' and/or their respective types of origami (kirigami, wetfold, package, etc).
This way, when one has a kirigami that is 'a flame origami' or 'a flame kirigami', they can just use 'release kirigami'.
While some of us have gotten used to doing this -- 'release flame' -- one may have bought 'a flame origami' which is actually a wetfold AND 'a flame origami' which is actually a kirigami, and so people can release one that they do not intend to. Sure, we can use 'release kirigami' and 'release wetfold', but wouldn't it make sense to limit it to the type of design (wetfold, kirigami) anyway?
In any case, if origami must stay the way they are with the few patterns that are available, it would be helpful if we knew why. Is it too much to change at this point? Was it always intended to be like this?

Enyalida2012-03-11 02:58:45
"All of the sudden"?

"All of the sudden"?
when ALL OF THE SUDDEN
i wass an orgogami
*origami
(I did actually write "all of the sudden" at first, but then decided it would make me look too much like an idiot to people who weren't in on it.)
Enyalida2012-03-11 07:02:21
Wait, you weren't origami all along? >_>
