Erm.... what? Could anyone explain the mechanics behind this ability?

It degrades the quality of their shield. Kinda an ass move, if you ask me. If you wanted the entire story, you should have asked him to c/p his WP SHIELD after every hit.
Turnus2012-03-14 06:45:12
Does it still degrade shield stats? I thought it was nerfed to be pretty much useless these days.
Enyalida2012-03-14 06:46:32
I think it degrades that thing under shield stats by a small amount. Has something to do with reforging it, dunno.
Razenth2012-03-14 06:46:40
In the old days, it would destroy shields. And people got very, VERY angry about it.
Svana2012-03-14 06:52:45
Is there any possibility of getting this ability changed? Degrading shields sounds either extremely useless (If the amount is too small) or completely absurd (If it's anything above). Possibly knock their shield arm off balance, or make parrying with the shield only half effective for x number of seconds?
Razenth2012-03-14 07:07:10
That's what envoy reports are for.
Svana2012-03-14 07:26:35
Would certainly make a report if I could, or suggest it if I had an envoy.
Razenth2012-03-14 07:33:33
New goal for Svana: become Templar envoy.
Raeri2012-03-14 08:06:27
Assuming by the end of that you effectively negated trueshield. Possibly parrying, but not sure about that part.
Vadi2012-03-14 09:12:45
I thought I saw that the shields could be 'damaged'. It'd be nice if this damaged mechanic temporarily lowered the stats, but a forger repairing it would bring out the original ones.
Would give a new dimension in 1v1's (and make you pack a backup shield and etc).

IIRC this is already how it works. (Don't think it works on artie shields though)

So Ushaara and I tested this. Visible stats don't drop, but the shield's "condition" worsens. It can be repaired fully by your friendly neighbour forger. It takes quite a few hits to reach the lowest condition.
Condition reflects what percentage of its original stats it's working at.
We're playing around with ideas to envoy it.

Perhaps an idea that gives the skill meaning against shield runes as well!
Unknown2012-03-14 13:36:06
Could have it work the same way against shield runes, but the condition of those is restored when it resets back to the owner's inventory. What's that, once per hour?
Rivius2012-03-14 14:24:24
Haven't tested with shield runes, but I assumed it worked the same. Can confirm later!
Vadi2012-03-15 04:24:03
Shield runes should be forge-repairable then as well. One shouldn't have to be forced wait for it to reset.
Turnus2012-03-15 05:04:38
Or just make the ability lower stats on a shield for a short certain amount of time. More to stimulate knocking the arm off balance from the vibrations of the blow, making it less able to effectively block than actually breaking the shield.
Either way its a job for envoys!

The stats dont change but the percentage it works drops as it becomes damaged. This was done BEFORE the last nerf to trueshield so shields are worth alot less than they used to be.
Arty shields are immune (as they should be given their magic properties).

This would be awkward if my shield rune was attached to, say, my viola.
