Llandros:

I'm really trying to say the difference between 4k and 6k is more significant than the difference between 7k and 9k.

And are you really using omen/damage kills as an example? If we have to use a skill like omen just to damage kill a faeling then you have made my point for me.

Except that if you scale it up, from 4k and 6k, with the same buffs the end result will not be 7k and 9k... because the buffs are percentage based. I don't get your point. The difference will be more than 2k, and that means a buffed up sip (more health = more from sipping), so that would seem to invalidate your argument in its entirety.

His argument may be diminished, but his point is still somewhat valid. The low-health, high-damage folks are able to boost their health more easily than the high-health, low-damage folks can boost their damage.

Wait wait....People -choose- to switch to Viscanti? 0.o (I thought I was forever alone save the people in racehats)

Human to Viscanti means +1 con, equal int and -1 cha, and viscanti gets a bunch of level 1 or 2 resistances. However the loss of cha is offset by weakening and city getting a buff. Not sure if it negates the loss of one point entirely but it is a very attractive choice.

On a personal note, I'm currently on the fence about racechange versus racehat. I think I need to hire someone with a cameo to run me some numbers.

You could look at it this way: if a high-health, low-damage person got all the health buffs that the low-health, high-damage person is getting (Karma Life, Throne, Truefavour, etc.), then the high-health, low-damage person could raise his tankiness to a level that the high-damage of person B wouldn't be much of an issue.

Higher max health pretty much translates into more damage per hit, as they're mostly percentage-based. And, there is the Principle of Diminishing Returns to consider.

That's mana attacks you're thinking of. Damage attacks are not 'mostly percentage based'. That's why burst damage works so much better on people with lower health.

If it was mostly percentage based it wouldn't matter how much health you had!

Thing is, even with a percentage based buff (which a tf only partly provides in the damage reduction, but not in the con bonus), tanky races benefit less from the buff than squishy ones. This would not be the case if all combat in Lusternia revolved around damage, but that's not the case; quite a few ways of killing bypass high health completely. So the health/con bonus basically helps the squishy races offset a weakness they have, while it does not help the tanky races offset their weaknesses (which might be low mana or ego, or balance/eq speed malus which matters for many offensive tactics but is also relevant for surviving certain attacks better).

I just want to start getting TFs again. :-/

I can say that my health makes a vast difference in many situations. Group PvP, not so much. Solo PvP, a little. Hunting, drastic. That extra health per sip/sparkle is quite potent.

As note, unbuffed by throne/life/yellow/con platter, etc, I have 6000 health. With throne alone that goes up to 7200. Stacking on other things, I can hit 9k overall. That's with all of the above and a fruit pizzazz. If I get a TF, my base health with throne is around 8k. Now, this is as an Aslaran, as a monk. A harmony monk. With that kind of health it's going to be very difficult to damage kill me.

I do think we need to draw things into line slightly, but at the same time, I don't see it being that crucial. For a group battle, the afflictions are what kill you anyway. More health might just mean they take an extra hit to kill you. Whoo?
