With magic curios, the effect was the same for all of them. It was nice, since you didn't feel compelled to pick one over another. The golden feather did not come set with levitate off of the bat, etc. Now we have a much better effect available (which people WILL want more than one of), AND you don't get to choose what goes on the curio. It is pre-established. So, if you were thinking of making the bone set, but have no need for that blunt DMP over poison, psychic, or something else, you're going to feel pretty torn about this.

Cut numbers to 5/5 and 10, and make the damage type configurable for each curio so players can collect sets appropriate for their characters, but aren't stuck with 'useless' resistance bonuses?
Ssaliss2012-08-13 15:43:25
Add in a time-delay between configurations (so there'll be at least some incentive to get more than one resist curio) and that sounds good to me. Could even say "You've got 10DMP to distribute; do it as you see fit". So if someone wants 1DMP to all (or most; don't know off the top of my head how many elements there are), then that's fine. 10DMP to cutting? Sure, why not.
Enyalida2012-08-13 16:30:29
OH wow, ew. This seems like a bad idea.
Janalon2012-08-13 16:35:00
Cut, yes. Configure, no.
Enyalida2012-08-13 16:42:37
I'm fine with the configuration thing, for the most part.
Ssaliss2012-08-13 16:47:36
I honestly can't see much difference between the current (rather wide) distribution of DMP and the configuration myself, to be honest. Sure, it might allow some more tailored DMP than is available right now, but I'm not sure that's so bad. Could even toss in a maximum of 5 to any single element to make it even weaker.
Eventru2012-08-13 16:48:10
We're not doing 'configure your own DMP' curios, heh. Sorry.
Turnus2012-08-13 16:50:00
Can we please get a command put in to disable the room messages on given curios, it'll get spammy to have messages from several curios.

To clarify let us "TURN " (or whatever syntax) and that'll keep that particular curio from making room messages until its turned again (or whatever the synxtax ends up as). This should be relatively easy to put into the curio code too, just a variable and conditional if!

Edit: I'll post this in simple ideas too, as this is likely to get eaten up by the spam of DMP cries.

I too think it is a shame that we are having another controversy over these curio releases which I know the admins added for us to have a little bit of fun.

Rather than scream for change, I think the best thing to do is just continue on for now and address a reduction in dmp later on. Let's see if these things really effect before nerfing away.

As for whether or not it should be configurable, I think it will be a moot point if it is reduced later on.

Thanks again for the curio rollouts. Despite folks' concerns, I imagine everyone is just as pleased as I am with the different options.

One question, then. If you're not against configuration, what is it you're against? The cutting of the DMP values? The current values?

What about lowering the DMP amounts? That's really what I want to hear a response on.

EDIT: Holy four posts at once, Batman.

No, no, look. See, that's the problem. Just letting them stay this way would make it a LOT harder to change later, because more people will have gotten used to the bonuses, and will fight to keep them. When it's really not insignificant! I agree, and it seems to be the intent, that curios should be fun for the people who find them fun, and optional. But the DMP offered by these is rather firmly in the eyebrow-raising category. That's why so many people are reacting with "wait, what?" Not because we're ungrateful little piggies, but because this has the potential to be a problem.

ANNOUNCE NEWS #2055

Subj: Curios Update

Based on the feedback, there appears to be a consensus that the curio
DMP bonuses for the damage resistance curios was too much. Therefore, we
are going to reduce the bonuses to 15 total for the single damage types
and 5/5 for the double damage types. Further, as we were going through
the curio bonuses, we noted we made a few errors which we have fixed.
See below.

-Tinker is now cold DMP.
-Gear is now excorable/blunt DMP.
-Tarantula is now cutting/electrical DMP.
-Flog is now divinus/asphyxiation DMP.

That answers your question I believe, Phoebus :P

Whew. Yay! I am glad that was changed. Thank you. Would've been happier with 10 and not 15 (way I was looking at it, a trans skillset that gives DMP gives 12, so why should a toy be worth more than that?) but I can live with that.

I don't, as a matter of habit/sanity/self-preservation, comment on controversial things that I don't have an answer to. I can say we aren't doing the McDonald's Value Menu of DMP, because I know that, heh. We were still discussing lowering the DMP and values (and Est correcting errors she discovered in the process), so it wasn't really appropriate for me to comment on it.
Enyalida2012-08-13 17:00:28
I feel the same, but this is a lot better.

Yeah, I get that, and I don't want it to seem like I'm holding it against you. It would just be better (at least to me!) to hear "I can't comment on that right now because we're still discussing it" rather than no word at all. Just my two cents.

Thanks so much for listening to feedback, Estarra.
As for you, Eventru, thanks for posting to let us know our cries weren't being ignored.

Glad they listened to the complaints from the playerbase that 25 dmp isn't 'minor.'

Now I just wish they hadn't changed some of these curios after releasing them, when people had already focused on forming a few.
