I've been pondering this for a while now, so here's a poll about it. Do people actually use bank accounts these days? I know I don't, but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. So weigh in!
Unknown2012-08-01 06:40:59
Bankaccounts are for when you're worried that your pack may be stolen or your gold may drop from your hands when you die.
Neither can really happen in Lusternia anymore, so they're pretty pointless except for org-related purposes.

I'd probably use it if it weren't for the fees. No fees!
Ssaliss2012-08-01 08:19:31
Yeah, the anti-theft option was basically only there to see how many still use it for that (now-obsolete) reason. So far, I'm honestly not that surprised about the results, but I'll let it go for a while longer before I make a follow-up post on it.

I'd use it if there were no fees. Otherwise no.
Sivas2012-08-01 10:31:03
I don't actively use it, but I did put a small amount of gold (50kish) away like a real life year ago in case if I ever forgot selfishness again. :(
Xenthos2012-08-01 11:43:24
I do; I actually just deposited another 5,000,000 into it last night.
I basically just use it to store 'hoarded' money that I am probably never going to use, but I can get access to if I ever really need it.

I use the shop as storage for an emergency buffer.

I find that banks are a waste of money. A locked secret exit with a reinforced door with a locked non-decay chest from arty in a manse is about the closest as I will come to a bank, and that is only if I am lugging around 10 million plus.
Although there are times where I have wanted to start a Savings and Loan in Lusternia, for credits and gold, but eh to much work to do, and I would only get people who wanted to loans, as even at a chance of higher returns, IRE has made us, at least me, so paranoid that I don't trust anyone with large sums of gold or credits.

I have this inclination to give out gold freely, and then I forget to keep a buffer for myself for when stuff decays. I didn't run into this situation as often when I had a bank account, but dealing with the withdrawal fee got tedious.
Zyphora2012-08-01 15:19:35
Besides losing gold to withdrawal fees, it's a bit of an inconvenience when you want to withdraw a specific amount of gold and then have to calculate the 2% fee so that it comes out to the amount you want.
Sylphas2012-08-01 15:41:00
I just throw mine in a locked chest in my manse.
Calixa2012-08-01 22:59:10
I have a small rainy day funds in there, as I sometimes go without bashing for so long that my gold reserves dry up.
Unknown2012-08-01 23:36:47
I just leave mine on the ground in my manse, heh.

I have ALWAYS wanted to try doing this. It would add an awesome burst of reality to the game.
EDIT: I keep my gold in my envirofinity vacuum, which is essentially thief proof, even if they somehow got past selfishness which autoraises when I log on.
Xenthos2012-08-02 00:50:57
If there was a system in-game where you could loan credits (or gold) out to others with them putting up artifacts as collateral, and if they default you get the artifacts, I'd definitely use it for a lot of loans.
Unfortunately, people would use that to transfer artifacts between characters, so it's unlikely to happen.

THIS.
ARG NEED 10K FOR GUILD. *withdraws with like 5 gold missing* DXLFDXGKFHLGJFJHLDTHJLDGJK.

You know what would be awesome, banks gaining interest
Enyalida2012-08-04 02:06:28
That would also be bonkers. We already have gold flooding problems.
Sidd2012-08-04 02:27:17
No way, Not with 25k-30k credit market prices
word is Aetolia has interest for bank accounts. Someone in that game told me, but I don't have first hand experiance
